My BF lost his mom about 10 years ago and he is still having a hard time with it.
He says that he wakes up thinking "I should call Mom," then realizes...he can't.
He also lost his father this year, in October...but his relationship with his dad was far from a friendly one...but it still had an effect on him.
All my family, except my kids and grandkids, have been gone for over a decade...I kinda feel like The Last Mohican of sorts.

I do hope the pain lessens with time for you.
I usually share the inspirational statement "Don't be sad that it's over. Smile because it ever was." in these cases...but I'm not sure if it will help you any.
