Yawning as he ran his fingers through unkempt hair, Felix couldn't help but to grimace at the fact that he had been awake so early. Up until that point his days hadn't started until at least noon, and usually only then because keeping his eyes closed grew gradually more difficult under the stinging rays of the sun. Now it wasn't the ball of fire in the sky that forced him out of his slumber, but a nauseating feeling in the pit of his stomach that refused to allow Felix to remain under the sheets any longer. The pain wasn't unfamiliar to him, as he had found himself feeling more ill each day he failed to conjure something up. His own stubbornness and refusal to utilize his abilities were taking a toll on him, a side effect he had not been prepared for.

"God, this magic is making me sick. Literally." He muttered to himself as he propped himself on his elbows, using what felt as if it were all his strength to prevent his arms from collapsing beneath him. The springs of the bed creaked in objection as he pushed himself to a sitting position on the dirt-stained mattress beneath him.

Rolling to his feet, the coolness of the wooden floor against his bare toes sent shivers up Felix's spine. He swore that everything felt warmer back at home, more comfortable somehow. It tended to be the little things, like cold toes or nausea, that reminded him of what he'd left behind, an annoyance Felix wished would just disappear. The feeling of guilt that often followed these memories only served as a burden to him, as he had no actual intentions of ever returning to his old life.

Being pulled out of his thoughts, the little ding that sounded from his phone that lay across the room was enough to capture Felix's attention. Technologies were not a thing he had been hip to before his departure, so he was always wildly curious about any sudden noise or light that came from the mobile device. Practically dragging himself to the outlet where it had been plugged up at, Felix reached for the cellphone, suddenly alert eyes flickering across the screen. It was reminder from an app, he began to realize, one about the popular places in his area. He had previously installed it in the hopes that if he visited common locations that other people did he could begin his goal of fitting in with the humans. Sitting around in his hellhole of an apartment probably contributed to his feelings of sickness even more than his avoidance of magic, he figured.

Felix did not bother scrolling through the popular places his latest installation had recommended, however. He knew where his first real step into society was going to be; a park only a few blocks from where he currently resided. He heard talk of it from the couple next door to him, the gossiping pair describing it as "haunted," and "cursed." His interest had immediately taken to it when he heard them use the word 'magic' as one of their descriptors. He was amused by how freely humans tossed that word around, and was eager to see the place that had earned such a label this time.

Doing nothing to appear presentable but throwing on a beanie to hide his tousled brown locks, Felix found himself out the door only minutes after originally checking his phone. He figured since he was up he might as well make use of the day, and the hold of his initial grogginess and queasy stomach were beginning to die down.

The warm air felt nice against his skin, bringing an unwarranted smile upon Felix's face. The sea-sprayed air from the beach nearby provided a smell Felix had been unfamiliar to before, a smell he wished he'd been aware of all of his life. Distracted by the fresh air and blue sky, Felix hardly even noticed that he found himself only a few footsteps away from the entrance of the park. As he became more aware of it, the sickness from before began to return. There was something off about the place, something unsettling. He stood reluctantly in front of the entrance, suddenly unsure if it had been a good idea to come in the first place.

As he reconsidered his plan for the day, he couldn't help but to notice a blue-eyed girl working her way towards his general direction. He found himself momentarily staring, her eyes seemingly captivating. He couldn't help but to wonder if she was planning on going to the park, making a silent vow to himself that if she was going in, then he would stop being such a baby and go in as well.
