Earth Day History
Earth Day was first recognized in 1970. It was created to put environmental issues on the national agenda. Earth Day is celebrated Worldwide, but on different dates for the northern hemisphere than for the southern hemisphere. In both locations, it's celebrated in Spring. In the Northern Hemisphere, it is most commonly celebrated April 22.
Since it's creation, Earth Day has held a huge part in increasing environmental awareness, encouraging recycling, and pushing clean energy. Now, over 30 years after it's inception, over half a billion people in over 170 countries participate in Earth Day campaigns.
