You have made tremendous progress so far, so as long as you keep that up you will speed through your quest!
I actually just snagged a winter dragon being abandoned a few seconds ago. I remember when I was still semi-active on Dragoncave and I kept on trying to get a winter dragon but failing because of all the people there. I am glad to finally have one even though they must be quite common by now D:
