Are the kids still even into these sorts of things?

Popped Collar Polo Shirts and Jnco Jeans are two different sub culture male clothing items that, though their time has passed, still evoke quite a response.

The Cyberpunk Style is quite masculine and may appeal to gamers.

Here are some Hoodies. Hoodies are a fall/winter staple of menswear for the college aged.

What's important about jeans is the fit and to an extent, the color; not necessarily the amount of fringe or pocket allocation. In my age group (20 - 25), The Gap's "Loose Fit" style of jeans is very popular while for younger people, tighter straight fit or girly jeans seem more popular at the moment. As far as color goes, it varies from person to person, but most men I'm acquainted with STRONGLY prefer simple middle tones (NOT stonewashed or incredibly dark) and feel silly in some of the colors that women's jeans come in.

In general, if you want to go with masculine, simplicity is the key. Look at the details. Something in a solid, darker color is probably going to be more popular for masculine avatars than something bright yellow and striped, I think.

I've heard The Gap described as the best place for a "normal guy" to get his clothes because all the clothes there are so perfectly "normal." While I, personally, find the men's selection kind of uninspiring most of the time, my tastes would obviously be different as I am a woman; I can understand where the guy is coming from. Checking out the Gap's website, or, more specifically, a spring/summer catalog, would be a great place to find decent inspiration.

This is mostly just what I've seen from being on a campus. So the average age is like 18 - 24 and it may not appeal to the high school demographic. Loungewear is also icnredibly popular.
