Eh, I know some people who like mochi and some people who are more "eh" with it. It's one of those things that I've grown up with all my life (in the form of chinese rice dumplings and other small desserts), so I'm used to it. Japanese mochi has slightly different texture and taste because they use different rice grains for theirs.
Sometimes it also depends on which and where you're having them. Different places have their own "styles" so to speak. I've had nasty red bean paste, and I've had delicious ones. I'm generally not a fan of red bean paste in general because the chinese types tend to have a grainier texture compared to the super smooth japanese azuki, both which still end up superbly sweet most of the time. I prefer desserts which less sweetness, but it's different for most of my friends.
On that note, I hate Reese's.
