After staring at the page in her book for several minutes and seeing nothing, Beth closed it with a sigh and stood to put it back, being careful that she wouldn't be seen doing so. In the back of her mind, she could sense everyone in the entire school. All of their thoughts were beginning to make it feel like the city again, though not to the same level. What she was most aware of, however, was the mind of the strange boy from before. From her brief grazing of his mind earlier, she had learned quite a lot about him, or at least his abilities. For example, his shield was strong, though it had a couple of small holes that she would be able to exploit if necessary.

A few other things had come to her attention since, though that was pretty much because of how he acted rather than how his mind felt. His arrogance was one such thing that had been shown through his actions. From that, she could infer that he had never been opposed in his life, or at least not to any extent that mattered. Frowning, she decided to go see Arvil and, secretly, make sure she was okay. First she checked that the psychic shadow she had created was still being maintained, which it was. While it wouldn't keep people from seeing her, it was impossible for people to detect her presence through psychic means. Actually being invisible would require individually pushing the minds of those around her that they hadn't seen her.

Several times over the course of her walk, Beth had to change direction as Avril did, first heading one way, then heading back, etc. It was a bit annoying, but eventually she managed to catch up to the taller girl in the courtyard. "Hey, Avril? How's it going?" she thought, subconsciously slipping into her old routine. It was a flaw to growing up around people that she could manipulate like puppets. Protocol didn't really exist for her where controlling her powers was concerned. That was why she had done what she had to the boy before.
