But romance novels are so formulatic.

Boy meets girl. Boy loves girl. Boy loses girl. Boy wins girl.
Or mix it up a bit with Boy things girl hates him, girl thinks boy hates her...

I just can't take them anymore.
I think that's why I'm so much more into scifi stuff.
At least there things get mixed up more.
