Yep - sometime on December 25th, the gift boxes will magically start getting their actual gifts in them. :) Until then, the gift boxes will equip only as the gifts themselves. :)

But the gift-boxes will not be done automatically, you'll have to wait for one of the santas (AAs) to add the items manually whenever they can get around to it on Christmas Day.
