Frei perched atop a rooftop, taking in his surroundings as he rested. There were only a handful of people still wandering about, all in groups to better protect themselves. Though, "wandering" would be the wrong word. Nowadays, no one "wandered". If they went anywhere, they had a destination in mind, a destination that was worth going out for.

He hadn't been there long, but Frei could already tell the changes after Hitler's reign. The badges and bands, home invasions, fights breaking out... none of that used to take place. People of all ages could walk the streets without fear. Now, it was rare to see children outside playing - it was rare to see anyone having even a smidgen of fun.

That is, besides the Nazis. Many of them seemed to enjoy causing people pain just to show that they could. And who could stop them if they decided to beat someone until they lay splayed out on the ground, facedown in a pool of their own blood, either unconscious or dead?

Would it really be so bad to be killed? Even if it was a slow death, it'd still be quicker than being alive, knowing that the chances of survival are slim to none. That everything you strived towards and everyone you love will be taken away. That- his thoughts were broken by a commotion a few houses down.

Frei peered over the the ledge, curious to see what it was about. From his location, though, he could neither hear nor see anything that could determine the situation. Just as he was about to jump down to get a better view, the soldiers departed. Whatever it had been about, there were more of them than he could've handled on his own.

One... two... then what? What comes after two? Frustrated that he couldn't count the soldiers, Frei jumped up and continued sprinting across the rooftops.
