Kevin only managed a small nod when Ellie uttered a thanks. He listened quietly as she and Couch James exchanged words, biting his tongue to keep quiet. The usually calm and quiet, shy teenage boy suppressed a mix of emotions when they spoke of her father not answering his phone.

It sounded just like his mom, which was why he hadn't bothered to call her. Even if he didn't come home tonight, she probably wouldn't even notice. His mind briefly thought about the small kitten, but he knew she'd be alright for a night. He left plenty of food and water for her before he left.
