Kurako had been deep in contemplative silence, eyes staring at the crystalline unicorn figure in front of him on the table, when someone approached and put a girl in the chair nearest him. A flicker of annoyance passed across his features, becoming quickly replaced with amusement at his friends words. The two spoke a moment in Elvish and then the other was leaving. The crystal figure was picked up with a gloved hand and then the pretty trinket vanished up his sleeve somewhere.
The half elf, face hidden by his hood and the shadows in this corner, turned his attention to the girl that had been set beside him. He studied her, taking in the details of her features. There were animal ears atop her head, and she looked wet, but the air inside the tavern was warm enough. A meal, a bath and fresh clothes was probably all she needed. Talis had asked him to look after her, and Kurako wasn't sure if that was more for his sake or for the girl's sake.
"The man that carried you here is called Talis, and he probably saved your life. You've tumbled through a portal, the realm that sits between all realms." His voice was soft and gentle, and he figured she needed an explanation of sorts. "Some people find this place by accident, some come looking for it, others even get exiled to it." The words were spoken with a slight shrug. "Finding the way out, to the proper realm is much more difficult than finding the way in."
Kurako though, and even Talis, knew where many of the portals were, and where they led to, but there were still countless more that the half-elf and his amber eyed friend had not yet found.
