Emery nodded and rifled through his own bag, looking for the reading list Emery mentioned. Even if he wasn't quite as excited for the books as Samir, homework was still homework in his mind whether they were fun stories or not, he'd still end up picking the same books. That way they could read it together, and maybe some of Samir's infectious excitement about all things book could spill over to Emery that way. And maybe there'd be some really great stories in there, something that Emery could latch on to and talk about for the next few months. "Sure, we can do that, and then I guess we should start on math." He wrinkled his nose as he spoke. While the books held the possibility of excitement, there was nothing exciting to be found in math. At least not in Emery's eyes.

The boys quickly pulled out the two lists reading over them, each throwing out titles that sounded interesting or excitement. Emery suggested The Boxcar Children, thinking it sounded exciting, even if he didn't know exactly what the title meant. But the little description the teacher had provided next to it said it was an adventure and mystery series, and that sounded like it's be interesting.
As the two boys sat bickering slightly over what books to pick, Samir's mother walked into the room observing the two boys, who were sitting shoulder to shoulder, bodies brushing with every impassioned movement, with soft eyes.
