Yeah, it's a pretty destructive disease. They can live long lives if they never come into contact with any other diseases, but unless you have a very isolated kitty, that isn't going to happen. I'm surprised my guy hasn't gotten it, since he's an outside cat. Admittedly, all the cats he comes into contact with are owned by the neighbors. They're well groomed, vaccinated, well cared for, etc. No stray cats around.
