The sun hung low on the horizon, ominously. The great red orb only seemed to symbolize the constant tinge of blood that was everywhere. These days, living human blood was harder to come by. More often than not the streaks and splatters against the walls and roads, had turned brown, having been there for many weeks, or months. Funny thing, that blood. It never seemed to wash off of anything very easily.

Colored splayed across the great open sky in purples, pinks and oranges. It was that dangerous time of day, where the sun was just low enough to cause the world ahead to be hidden in silhouette as it tried to blind you just enough to keep you from seeing your surroundings. Quite the ominous orb indeed; working for the enemy.

Any surviving humans would be hurrying to their safe places now, or forging a safe place for the night. A human in the dark rarely survived against the infected. Those things were like feral animals, able to see in the dark where a human could not. Perhaps they were relying more on scent than sight. Not much was known about them really. There couldn't have been. The pandemic had spread too quickly...

Rumors of whole cities that survived, closed off from the infected, exist. They're said to be North. That tended not to bode well for those coming from the South, as there were many other cities, destroyed and abandoned that lay between the South and the North. And what if, what if the rumors weren't true? One would endure natural weather disasters, entire groups of the infected, rebels, crazies, government scientists collecting humans........ and then what?

Hope. It was all anyone could have now. Hope for a safe place. Hope for a better day. Hope for the human race...
