The crowd parted in front of him as Trevor and his bodyguard approached the caravan with the mermaid. But he did not immediately stop at her caravan. First, he took a look at some other creatures along the way, including an albino liger and an intriguing gigantic monitor lizard with horns on its back. He did not want to seem like he was ignoring the other businesspeople who had come to visit him, and he did not want to outwardly seem too enthusiastic about the mermaid, even though he was.

At last, he was able to see the magnificent creature who had only been visible through binoculars from his high-up window. He was surprised by how young she looked and amazed by how her pale blue scales glistened but tried to hide his excitement behind a scowl. After all, he would have to haggle with the businesspeople over the transaction, and did not want to seem like he wanted the mermaid too badly in order to keep the price fair enough.

"May I?" he addressed the men who were in charge of that caravan. When they nodded, he approached the tank and peered through the glass wall at the mermaid.

"Hello," he said. "Do you understand what I am saying?"
