I could not imagine what that kind of loss would fee like. I know it would be extremely hard though, because one time when my mom was driving me back from something (some time after my parents were called in to school to talk to the counselor about my depression), she was very distraught about what she had done wrong and why I was so sad. that she was a bad parent because she couldn't even help me and it hurt her so much. she lost a bunch of weight from the stress.
