So I admit, I am among the millions of people who were less than thrilled when a while back Netflix raised their prices without announcing it first. Then, a few months ago, Netflix decided to double it rates in order for it's users to keep both streaming and disk rental. At that point in time, I decided to ditch the disk rental and was more than likely going to ditch the streaming service soon. Today the CEO decided to utter an apology at the same time, stating that the two services were going to "split" to become two different companies. One named "Qwikster" and another keeping the Netflix name. With that apology, there was no change in the price hike, no solid explanation why on earth we'd want to continue to pay extra for the lack of convenience two separate sites creates, and pretty much no reason to keep using either of the services. So I am curious, does any one else have any reasons to stay with these services? What alternatives are people looking into? If you are staying put, what did you think of the apology letter? http://blog.netflix.com/2011/09/expl...id=netflixBlog

I think so far that my family are going to keep with it, for now.
Simply because we're too lazy to rip the movies from online, ourselves.
It's a bit inconvenient I must admit, but not overly too bad. I'm unsure of
how high the prices are now, ugh, but hopefully after some complaining
it'll lower. If I had the choice, I would also quit the service. (Mostly because
they don't have ANY movies I want to see! Suckerpunch, HP, etc.)
Not only the movie thing is an inconvenience, but the fact we can't do offline
streaming completely and utterly irks me. It'd be nice if we could let it load then
even if we go offline, as long as it had buffered it would be fine to play.
However, Netflix says nah and keeps it strictly online, how troublesome.

I'd like to see some counter-arguments, myself. ;x I've been using the same alternative
since I found it a year or two ago. Let me watch this. Well,
now LMWT is known as 1 channel, which really confuses me since the old URL works perfectly
fine? They have a wonderful collection of movies, that grows each day, and they are all streamed
online which, when fully buffered can indeed.. be played offline, as well. I've been quite pleased
with most of the streams they have there. :)

That apology letter really doesn't make up for their ignorance, though. And I agree with a lot of
the comments being spoken underneath that letter. ;x Mr. Hastings, you've made yourself look like
a dbag! Congratulations! :)

I'm going to go ahead and own some bad behavior:

Years ago, I decided to just give my money to newsdemon instead and use my usenet access to get unlimited movies per month.

oh Daria i am so steamed at netflix i cannot even express it!
now you can't have two people in the same place streaming different movies!
i am tempted to cancel it as well and most probably will if i can find something else to replace it.
i am looking into getting dish network for nineteen ninety-nine a month.
*sad face*
but i really love the ability to watch what i feel like when i feel like it.
it just seems every movie i want to watch is just on dvd now.
grrrrr!
i am looking into blockbuster at the moment.
let us know what you find is better than money grubbing netflix please,
which i had in the past loved so very much.
.....money, the root of all ebilness!

eh, I can still find anything I want just about on the internet anyways so I've never used Netflix.

However, I'm hoping BBC will get to work on that iPlayer thing of theres, there's talk they are going to make a version you can pay a small amount per year for and use that to watch the BBC stuff they have available online for free.
i will be Doctor Whoing it up!

Such drama. T . T
I'm keeping netflix though since I've
never really used to the DVD only once
and it was a hassle so I just ended up
being a bad netflix user and keeping it
because I couldn't find the envelope.
There should be an all streaming option..I
wouldn't mind paying extra for that..as in
the dvd options as well.

Fuck 'em.
With Redbox, Hulu and used dvd stores, you can find just about anything, without having to deal with all this bullshit.

is hulu free?

not drama Ell really.
they have tons of profits and have not had to pay anything extra for their movie rights.
it's just pure greed.
now i can see changing the way they do business but to screw their current, loyal customers is just plain rude!

but i do like the all streaming version you mentioned because i want to watch 'pinkie and the brain!'

Hulu is free, whether you sign in or not. Unless it's rated R, you might have to sign in. Though Hulu has advertisement and you have to wait, unless you're impatient. ^^;

I didn't sign up for Netflicks because they did get more expensive. I agree that it's easier and cheaper just to use sites like Hulu. On Demand is awesome as well as far as free movies go, if someone has a cable company that offers it for free. It's mostly older movies but I still managed to find some good ones on there. I use it at my parents' house when I'm over there. Blockbuster used ot have a movie rewards program but most of the stores around here closed down. Family Video has nights where movies are $1 and children's movies are always free.

I'm not really a movie buff so I never used Netflix. Everyone I know that had Netflix canceled it when the price jumped up.
I mostly use Hulu to watch tv shows, I think you have to pay to watch movies though. I also watch anime on Crunchyroll or Funimation's website. When I can I'll watch stuff On Demand. My friends get movies and tv shows off the internet but it seems like too much hassle for me.

There's a few websites on the web I trust enough to get movies off of that are free but a majority of them I wouldn't since it's easy to get a virus or what not from some places. Youtube is fun for web shows and things like that too.

I like watching Youtube, but I like my nice bigscreen TV, and don't have it hooked up to my computer. Maybe I should get onto that....

I was thinking the same thing with my computer a while back. I was saving up for a big screen and thought it would be awesome to just connect the computer up to it for movies. That and video games. It seems kind of silly in my case to have no cable and use it just for movies and video games though. XD

I got rid of the dvd rentals and have instant streaming only right now but considering the selection available on instant now I might be dropping that too. I'm giving them a little longer to buck up the selection cause I really like being able to watch some of my shows and horror movies at random when my husband decides he wants to watch the game (of really any sport).

Did you notice that Google ended the Google+ beta within hours of the release of the new facebook layout? It was brilliant.

i just got my offical email from netflix saying they are keeping the dvd's and streaming together.
i had read about them not anticipating the huge amount of people who bailed after the greedy move.
oh, and they value me as a custome.
*wipes tears*
lol, i am glad i kept netflix until my next bill at the end of october.
hope they do some changing so i can view the movies i want streaming instead of dvd only.

Yeah, I was not sad to hear of Quickster's demise, but I still feel very torn and icky toward Netflix in general. If you want my money, don't act entitled to it and don't treat me like a fool. I am still considering Hulu and actually just paying for HBO (cause I want to watch True Blood).

i totally agree.
money is hard to come buy and let's face it, 'netflix be a little loyal to your customers!'
they lost like a million customers in one month!
if they had kept the pricing for previous customers and just did the increse on future customers then i think that would have been much more fair to existing customers.
still i am searching for a new company myself.
mostly because all the movies and television shows i used to watch streaming went to dvd only.
seemed a little fishie to me.
so maybe hulu is the way to go.
what is the cost of subscribing to that Daria, do you know?
