(If you want to share a song, don't forget to quote it! You can get in trouble, otherwise!)

Out of NOWHERE, just a few moments ago, I remembered the song 'Polly Wally Doodle'. It's a song my grandmother used to sing to me, though I only remember the chorus...

Quote:
Fare thee well,
Fare thee well,
Fare thee well my fairy fay
For I'm going to Lou'siana
For to see my Susyanna
Sing Polly wolly doodle all the day
(If you're curious, here is the rest of the lyrics.)

There was also another song she used to sing, but I have NO IDEA where it comes from.

Quote:
I love you,
A bushel and a peck,
And a barrel and a heap,
I do, yes I do,
Love you
So, do you have any songs from your childhood that are particularly memorable?

Oh oh oh! From my Barney days.

Quote:
Oh, the germ on the bug,
And the bug on the feather,
And the feather on the wing,
And the wing on the bird,
And the bird in the egg,
And the egg in the nest,
And the nest on the branch,
And the branch on the limb,
And the limb on the tree,
And the tree in a hole,
And the hole in the ground
And the green grass grows all around, all around
The green grass grows all around.
Haha, I used to sing that ALL the time.
Then me and my grandmother, used to sing I Love You, when it would come on at the end of Barney, we'd hug and kiss like it said in the song. xD
Great memories, I can still remember sitting in my playpen and watching it. ^^

We Will Rock You by Queen is a song that everyone in my school used to sing. In fact, we sang it at last night's football game. Which we lost. But yeah, we would clap and stomp and sing to that song all the time.

Oh, oh! I got it.
-took me awhile to remember the exact lyrics-
My babysitter used to sing this to me all the time.

Quote:
My little sunshine
My only sunshine
You make me happy
When skies are gray.
You'll never know, dear
How much I love you.
Please don't take my sunshine away.
I can't remember if there was more or not though.

@LoversEnd: Lol, I can't remember a damn thing from Barney except the 'I Love You' song. I know I loved it, but it's been like, wiped from my mind. Just like Power Rangers. I do like that song, though. It's all like... hippy mellow.

@Lt. Summers: that song has played so often for so many things, both awesome and incredibly lame, that I cannot listen to that song and enjoy it. Which sucks, because I love that song.

@`Hikari-chan: I don't think I've ever had a babysitter that wasn't a family member... but somehow you just reminded me that my father used to sing me the song Rocky Raccoon when I went to bed.

Mmm.
My parents didn't sing to me a whole lot, most especially my dad.

My babysitter is/was a very close family friend.
Besides, there was really no family member (that lived near us) that didn't have work most of the day.
She sang a lot to me, but that's the only song I can remember.
I liked her, she was like a third Grandma.

Hehehe.
Rocky Raccoon.
I like that song.

Well when I was a kid my parents were really into Hootie and the Blowfish and the Pretenders, so hearing any of those songs takes me back. I remember thinking as a child that Hootie and the Blowfish would be my soundtrack. I always made my mom play "I'll Stand by You" when we listened to the Pretenders.

Um...let's see, as for normal kids songs, I had the Animaniac soundtrack. :3 I spent a night on youtube a few months ago looking up all those old songs. I liked the state's and their capitals. I also listened to Joe Scruggs. Has anyone else ever heard his songs? I don't remember him being very popular.

I've always been particularly fond of Savage Garden, Jewel, and Sting and the Police.

Truly Madly Deeply is probably my de facto childhood song. I always tried to sing along whenever it came on the radio... and I still do, whenever nobody's around. :~p

Oh oh! The Mr. Sun song from Barney! I don't remember how it goes exactly though...

And one of my earliest memories is of listening to an Eagles song in the car on the way to the Cleveland Metroparks.

Quote:
Take It easy, take it easy
Don't let the sound of your own wheels
drive you crazy
Lighten up while you still can
don't even try to understand
Just find a place to make your stand
and take it easy

Oh wow. That was a big memory flash back for me. I remember my mom used to sing me a cute song called "The Kitty Cats Party". Only lyrics I can remember are:

Quote:
At the kitty cats party all the kittens will be there, they'll be dressed up in their sunday best with flowers in their hair. Wearing red and yellow ribbons and a tiny jingle bell there'll be kittens from the city and the country side as well.

Come on little little kitty cats grab yourself a partner lets dance.
Come on little little kitty cats grab yourself a partner lets dance.
But that's it. I know there's more though! With bowls of milk. A sign with no dogs allowed and what not.

I also remember "Teddy Bear Picnic".

OMG! That song brings back memories for me. When I was little, my parents always woke me up singing this song together to me. I woke up each morning to my mommy and daddy singing that! x3

Ah, Barney songs really bring back memories. Especially since I can remember most of the words. XD My friends think it's crazy how I can remember the lyrics to a million random songs.

Mostly it's theme songs to old tv shows, though. Like this morning, my little sister started singing to one of them, that got me thinking about all the other kiddie shows I used to watch and sing along with the theme song. PB&J, Out of the Box, Gullah Gullah Island, stuff I can look back on and still say, "That was an awesome show." And they were. :D

The songs I remember, like Ring around the Rosy, and Rock-a-by-Baby, when I think of them and their lyrics, mean such horrible things o_o Oh, and London Bridge is Falling Down XD Those are the songs I remember.

As for songs from my childhood... I honestly don't really remember much, but I do remember Sesame Street! <3 The Count Song by Count Dracula! xDD Oh, and Blues Clues songs. =P

My mom used to sing me "Brown Eyed Girl" Van Morrison. I loves it ^^ Just type it in google and search for it. It's a great classic rock-ish song. My parents weren't into the cutesy lullaby songs. Instead, they would sing or play some of their favorite songs from when they were in school.

I loved that song too! I was like, seven, and I had this little dance that went along with it that I made up, and I'd always sing it and dance when it came on the radio. xD

The other day my boyfriend discovered that I used to like the A*Teens. So he started singing their songs to irritate me. xD; All he had to do was say "Halfway round the wooooorld" and it'd be in my head forever. xD (I had a dance to go with that one, too... I wanted to be a popstar xD)

My parents sang a lot to me when I was kid.
There is this one song they used to sing to me before I would sleep at night.

Somewhat directly translated to english it's called "The Elephant's lullaby" and goes like this:

Quote:
The stars are lit
on the blue, blue sky
and the crescent moon lifts it's sabre
I hope the bad mice
doesn't sneak into your trunk
Sweet dreams, little Jumbo
and visselul (Danish "go to sleep" kind of word)
The forest is getting dark now
Your aunt is sleeping, that old oysterich
and so is the rhino, your uncle

The wilderbeast is coughing in it's sleep
in the great jungle with the big lians
and the apes are rocking themselves to sleep
in cradles of green bananas
sweet dreams, little Jumbo, you little cutie
nothing, my friend, will you miss
tomrrow I'll give you a coconut
which you can use as a rattle

A zebra puts it's pyjamas on
with black and white stripes on it
a flying squirrel with fluffy legs
is squeaking in the dark
Sweet dreams, little Jumbo, you must be full now
you don't know a housewives grief
a small plantation with a thousand sticks (of sugar)
we'll need to have potted tomorrow

A tiger is roaring it's evening song
and scouts towards all directions
by the waterfront site, with a sharpened claw
the black panther is sneaking
Sleep safe, little Jumbo, you little one
you cute little one
you asked me to tell you a fairytale
- and now you're already quietly sleeping
I'm sorry that this turned out a little long, I got a little carried away
This song has so many moemories attached to it, it makes me cry everytime I hear it. In the good way.
My parents used to switch "Jumbo" with my name, of course =3
