How do you make it so you STOP having a certain dream? :/
The thing is, I've been having, don't laugh at me, zombie dreams over and over again. Now I'll admit that I had some weird obsession over them a while ago. I thought the idea of zombies was the coolest thing ever.
Now though, every dream is about zombies and they aren't even fun anymore. They're just scary as hell.
In the dreams when I used to have them in only the beginning and far between... they were the kind that I was killing the zombies with a group of people and there are A LOT of zombies o_o
Now though, my dreams usually just end with me alone, in a building or something and having to watch the zombies stare at me through a window as they try to get in. Not only that but they don't die when I kill them.
It's been getting so scary that I wake up scared, and I have to turn on my light as well as check all my windows and my door to make sure no zombies are staring at me through them or trying to claw their way in.
It's pathetic, but I can't seem to make it all go away. I've been having them EVERY NIGHT.
What can I do? D:

Im not really sure how you can stop dreaming something since I dont even know what happened to me that I just stopped remembering my dreams but dreams are supposed to be part of your subconcious mind telling you something... I dont know wether you believe that or not but according to the dream dictionary...
Quote:
1. If you dream of seeing a zombie, you feel like you aren't involved in your own life. you are frustrated with your inability to be engaged.
|
Quote:
2.If you dream you are being chased or attacked by a zombie, you feel threatened by monotony, boredom, and habit. you want to break the mold and do something crazy and different. maybe its time for a life change.
|
Do either of those seem to apply to your life? if they do maybe just try to change whats affecting you and it might change up your dreams
at the same time if it isnt that maybe in the back of your mind your thinking too much about these zombie dreams and its putting it into your subconcious as you go to sleep thus giving you a repeated dream everynight...
I dont know if it will help but try to focus on something else before you go to sleep and repeat it in your mind till you fall asleep...
if that doesnt help then im really not sure and I hope you can fix this!

I can't say I am good at analyzing dreams or anything, but... In terms of altering your own dreams? There are ways to at least lower the chance of the situation. For example, not thinking about it. However, that's a pretty hard one. Other things you can do is, when you are going to sleep, focus on something that you like or anything in general you'd rather dream of. Just think of it until you fall asleep. That will at least ease the likelihood, you know?

Honestly, I think the dream dictionary is crap. No no, thats not right. Not crap and it may be right but... I think that every reason for a dream that they have on that site or in a book... ALL are worded in a way that can relate to your life. I think they make it so that, no matter at what time, you will be able to relate what they say to your life.
I'm seventeen and in around five months I will be starting my life. FAR AWAY. So maybe it's just my anxiety or excitement. I can't really change that though. The wait is still going to be there. Maybe I can do something with my life until then, like help people or something. Just keep myself engaged in different things.
And as for thinking of something else before bed... it's not like I THINK of zombies before I go to bed. Honestly, I haven't expected the zombie dreams all the last three times. It was when I woke up this morning though, after three nights of the same thing, that I was like, "Alright, this is getting to be a little too much." and seeked help.
Apparently though, there isn't much help D:
I mean, there isnt much I can do.

Your dreams could really be from your subconscious trying to tell you something... Or it could be backlash from your previous zombie love. I myself have had dreams about stuff that happened or that I was preoccupied with or thinking about WAY before those dreams ever happened. They went on for a period of time, and then just stopped cold turkey. So that might happen for you too.
Or it could be like a psychological\life factor... Although since I don't know you, this is only a "What if?". Like, say if you're feeling stressed or anxious (for a reason other than the zombie dreams). This stress\anxiety could manifest itself in dreams. Speaking from personal experience.
I second the "think about something else before you go to sleep." This is from personal experience; if you concentrate like consciously on something right before\as you are falling asleep, there's a chance that you could dream about that. But... this is not a 100% thing, and I haven't tried it on purpose, I just noticed,"Hey, I dreamed about that movie I watched last night" upon waking up.
If this goes on for a worryingly long time, you could try a psychological doctor who specializes in dreams... But unless the thoughts and worry about the dreams are negatively impacting your waking life, I'd eschew this option, since it costs money.
And yes, if you're starting a "new life" far away, then anxiety\excitement\etc could totally be manifesting itself in dreams. It's like nervousness about the unknown (at least that's how I felt before I moved to college).
Even if you're not feeling stressed or anxious, you could try stuff to relax before you go to bed, like drinking tea or reading or yoga... even if you don't think you need it. The tea stuff works for me, because the heat is very soothing. And reading, too, since I like to read and when I do it gives me something to think about when I'm lying there waiting to fall asleep. I... haven't tried the yoga thing, but I hear it's relaxing. If you want, you could certainly have a go at that.
Annnnd I found this webpage, if you care to read it, that's about stopping recurring nightmares and covers various possible causes:
How Do I Get Ride of Recurring Nightmares?
I don't know if I helped at all with this post, but I felt like trying because I know how awful nightmares are, ESPECIALLY if they keep happening and you don't know how to stop them. Here's hoping they stop for you soon.

I have a strange... convuluted mind, therefore, I've no idea if this would work for you or not. I often have repeat dreams or even continuing dreams. If I don't want to dream about something I do one of two things. I try and think of something I'd like to dream of. If I want to dream of my boyfriend I close my eyes and see his face and imagine it until I fall asleep. If that doesn't work, or I just end up laying in my bed daydreaming, then I move on to the second thing I do. I imagine the repeat dream that I have and play it out in my head. I play it out exactly as it is in my dreams, BUT I give it an ending. Such as, in your case, I would think of myself sitting/standing in the room by myself, the zombies all around. Then I would think of myself turning in a circle and seeing a secret door in the floor. I go to the door open it and escape. When I do this, that is how the dream plays out. My mind has an ending to its dream and usually the dream plays out to the point where I stop imagining then goes on on its own. It's quite fascinating.

Dream interpretation is your friend.
To me it seems your dreams may be saying they you're afraid you are or are becoming like a zombie. Becoming like everyone else to fit in-or like a sheep.
I ain't saying you are doing that, but that you're afraid of it happening at least.
Or it could be just being afraid of being alone or feeling like people have abandoned you.
And that you feel whatever it is is inevitable.
You need to face it in real life (whether it is that I'm right-or it is something else).
I hoped this helped.

For a while I had an intense series of nightmares.
I dealt with it by learning to wake myself up during a dream.
It's hard to explain, but you can realise that you're dreaming and force yourself to wake up.

I know how that goes. I had this horrible dream once where our kitty turned into a zombie and we had to kill him. D= Zombie dreams are terrifying--zombie apocalypse ones where you're a refugee, not a gun-toting badass, I mean.
Sometimes, just talking to people about your dreams can help. Also, try to limit exposure to zombie-themed things, if that seems to make your dreams flare up like that. A good thing to do whenever you're going through any sort of psychological trouble is to make a record of your emotions (or, in your case, your dreams as well), what events happened that day (or what you did), and then look for a pattern.

@CAT:
Strange. What you said is exactyl what is going on with me. Abandonment and the fact that I'm being abandoned because I am a black sheep like... character. That's a very interesting point.
@HARMONIUS:
I have only woken myself up by knowing I was in a dream only one time. I thought I did it for a zombie dream yesterday... but when I woke up it was seven in the morning. The normal time I wake up. So I don't think I had anything to do with waking up.
@CLOCKWORK:
My zombie dreams are usually just running and hiding dreams. I'm just trying to survive. I mean, I'd try to kill zombies but I don't carry around forty guns so I can twirl around and shoot fifty zombies all at once xD
I've had zombie dreams though, where I shoot all my family members. Or only a few family members. For some reason, the reasoning behind it was not because they were zombies but because I feared for them to see everything that was happening. So I killed them.
I do not have the time to write everything down. I do however, tell people about my dreams. A lot of people are getting annoyed with my zombie dreams. I tell them and their only response is, "You have a lot of zombie dreams o.o" so... talking to people doesn't involve conversation, instead just me telling them my dream and them not caring.
-------------------
Last night, I had a dream I don't remember then another non zombie dream. I do know I woke up in the middle of the night though, probably from a dream. I just can't remember it.
Happy thing is that I don't remember zombies though :3
So that's good I suppose.
But I'll probably have another one soon.

I think you can train yourself to do it.
Here's the advice that really helped me.
I hope it can help you too. (:
