Okay, so I've never seen the Matrix up until this week. They were playing the first one and the third one on television.
I remember when I was younger my mom always told me that I wasn't allowed to watch it, maybe because she knew that it would be too profound of a movie for a child.
Now that I've seen it and, I think, understood this movie, I'm looking forward to sharing my thoughts about it with you guys ^^
What is your opinion on the Matrix?
I, personally find that it is kind of creepy because, of course, you start thinking.. 'what if that's how things are'?
And even if they aren't, it's still a pretty good metaphor/prediction of what human's lives could be like, controlled by machines.

I recently went back and re-watched the second and third Matrix movies. I've watched the first a ton of times, but I hadn't seen the other two since they first came out. o_o
I really like the first one. It's a very interesting concept, and plus... "I know kung fu." xD
The second was alright. It was mostly just freaking awesome, because of all the freaking awesome things that happened. Who cares if the plot is confused, NEO IS FIGHTING 20 SMITHS!
The third one... Lord, that was confusing. The series completely stopped making any sense at that point, not to mention the fact that it's about an hour and a half longer than it should be.

I haven't seen the second one, it seems like a lot of fun.
I do have to agree that the third one was really confusing, but it's the one that I like the most!
The whole 'human headquarters' getting attacked by a bazillion of those computerized flying squids, plus Neo gets super cool powers when he gets blinded.
Even if I did understand most of it, I'm wondering how the Chinese guy and the Middle Eastern girl survived at the end.

I remember when I saw the Matrix in the theaters. I was super excited about it. I understood the story right away, and no one else seemed to get it. I kept wondering why it seemed so complicated for people when the concept was easy. A man overrides a system in a virtually created earth created by robots harvesting humans for energy to power themselves.... I mean it wasn't that hard to figure out. I had to explain it to my mom several times, and she still didn't get it. I understood it and I was only 12 years old at the time....I wonder if that means I'm a genius... XD
edit: I still love the Matrix....and the trilogy was awesome. So there. X3

I think the way it worked was the entire Matrix got reset after Neo died, so everything sort of went back to how it was before Smith took over. So everyone in the Matrix was still alive at the end.

The first one was such a mindfuck. Really made us all think twice about our conciousness haha. I still remember all the hype leading up to the movie and how everyone was just thinking the same thing: "what is the Matrix?!?!"
And whoa, I don't remember anything about the Matrix being reset at the end. o_o;

Actually yeah, The Oracle was the program to start the reset by telling the One. Apparently, Neo was like a reset button, and every time the world got too viral, they would reset it by creating a trigger of events specifically so Neo could reset the matrix. Smith became the virus and Neo was like the reset button for the matrix. It's kinda funny if you think about...

Yeah I understood that, but then that means that the Humans didn't succeed in destroying the Matrix. They're still sort of controlled by machines, no?

Smith: "Miiister An-derr-sooon"
IMO
It's not necessarily that the Matrix World becomes "too viral"; it's just that "The One/Anomaly", is disruptive and a problem with the Matrix and the Machine World. One of the many themes with the Movies is "Choice".
There are people who like being in the Matrix, and there are people who don't like it. The Architect said when he built up the first few, people rejected it, because it was too perfect. People were not given a way to make their own decisions; so the Matrix was built - pretty much like the real World. Architect hated it xD lol but it worked, and it kept things relatively stable.
Then the Oracle comes along and sees that even with the most stable Matrix; a lot of people were resisting and waking up. So I think she created the "The Anomaly", to keep balance and hope. Basically people who woke up, needed a place to go to. The people who bent the Matrix, felt that there was something beyond it.
*turning into a Geek*
I think the Smith program that fought Neo (Anderson), is not the same Smith program that was in previous Matrix's. I think by Neo's time, the Smith program was just getting so annoyed with humans and the Matrix, that it wanted out. To me the third movie seemed to explain that the current Smith was also an anomaly, but that wasn't the purpose of it. Since it was acting more like a virus and destroying it's own world.
So more or less, the humans are still under machine control. BUT the ones who want out of the Matrix, are going to be released under the Architects orders. So they no longer have to "fight" to get out and the machines won't go on a killing spree.

Sweet, thanks for clearing that up!
Me and my boyfriend were having a little debate on what the 'moral of the story' was. I was telling him that the point was that we always have a choice and that's what they were trying to portray in the movie. He was trying to say that there is no 'moral' in the Matrix, it's just a movie with cool fighting scenes, but I knew that there was more to it than meets the eye!

I do wish more about the Matrix would come out. Yet overall, it does look rather complete.
For example. I would like the Bros. to explain more about "The One" and other anomalies. Cause from what I am getting from the Movies. Each "One" program, has died for every Matrix that was created.
