Soo, High-Schoolers
This topic is all about HOMECOMING! Tell stories about dresses, themes, memories. ANYTHING.
I'm going to start.
October 16th will be my first Homecoming Dance. (Yeah, I'm a Frosh). I've been helping with decorations for the Writer's Club. The theme is Sweet Home Chicago.
I'm starting to work on my dress. I don't have a lot of moneh, so I'm using my Confirmation dress. My mom is going to take it to a tailor and make it a few inches shorter and put a sparkly ribbon on it.
I'm also going to play at the football game the night before. Kind of required since I'm in band...
We can talk about football games too...

I never cared for school dances much. I went to a dance my first year of high school and it was so boring after a while my friends and I just ended up leaving. I did however go to my senior year of homecoming. I found a lovely dress for 90% off that only ended up costing me $20. XD It was black and had big dark pink roses on it and was form fitting. I loved it and it looked really nice. I never understood paying so much for a dress that is only going to be worn a night. Plus the fact I was only 100lbs in high school and had a horrible time finding a dress that even looked good on me because I was so darn skinny.
At the dance itself, I went with my sister, her date, her friend and her date, and two of my friends and I had a "date". It started off fun but as the evening went on my sister's date left her and went off with another one of her friends then my date turned out being a jerk because I wouldn't kiss him or anything. Keep in mind I was never interested in guys and I told him that we were just going as friends. So I had my sister get upset and my one friend was pissed at my sister's date and threatened to beat his butt for leaving my sister then on top of that I had my date, who drove me there, go sulk off in a corner pretty much the whole night.
When my date and I left her tried to get me to go to this house party and I didn't want anything to do with it. I think he was just looking for an easy lay and he was getting mad when he wasn't getting anything out of me. He just made me mad. After the dance he couldn't evne be man enough to keep in contact with me but then again it was high school and boys that age tend to be more hormone driven.
I'm planning on going to the homecoming football game this Friday. I haven't been to one in probably 5 years so I figured I'd go since my little cousin is in band and is playing at the game.

i only went to high school in America for seven months, and entirely missed homecoming.
all the other countries i went to high school in didn't have the homecoming tradition.
it makes me kind of sad to have missed it, but then i was the weird girl in school anyway, so i probably would just have had stuff thrown at me. ^^"

What exactly is homecoming? I've always wondered that.
Over here we have things like the grade eleven dance and the matric dance.

Last Friday was my first homecoming dance! <3 The love of my life invited me to it and I was soooo happy! It was also my first dance as a highschooler! (I'm a senior, so that's probably pretty sad to some of you.)
Homecoming was a lot of fun, me and my boyfriend didn't really dance, but we held hands and hugged each other and every time he kissed me was perfect. Nobody kisses like he does <3

I'll admit that I don't know what Homecoming is either, anyone care to explain? And does anyone know why the tradition started in the first place?

At my school it's like a dance and a football game--like a school spirit event. Like everybody shows that they have school pride.
I dunno if it's like that for every other school though...

I don't know, but I assume because it's at the beginning of the year, and it's at the school. I'm not sure though

Hey everyone~ So something AMAZING homecoming-related happened to me no more than 20 minutes ago, but I'll get to that in a minute.
@ Mystic: I'm so sorry to hear that your Homecoming experience was an unfortunate one. :( I have the complete opposite problem of you when it comes to dresses. I NEVER fit in anything 'cause I've got big boobs. XD
Boys are boys, there's not much you can do about that. :(
@Miss Eevee: It sucks you had to miss homecoming when you came to the US. You're 'bout as weird as I am, they can't make fun of you! I won't allow it. (You're to pretty to have stuff thrown at you. -hug-)
@Nyvok: YAY!! I think guys who kiss good are awesome! Good for you~
@Perverted Prince, Nyvok, and Jelly: For your informational pleasure, I'll quote Wikipedia:
Quote:
Homecoming is the tradition of welcoming back former residents and alumni of an institution. It most commonly refers to a tradition in many universities, colleges and high schools in North America. It usually includes activities for students and alumni, such as sports and culture events and a parade through the streets of the city or town. Additionally, the term can also refer to the special services conducted by some religious congregations, particularly by many smaller American Protestant churches, that are often held annually but sometimes as one-time-only events, to celebrate church heritage and welcome back former members or pastors.

At my school, it involves a Dance and a football game, and lots of decorations and things. :)

Interesting! In general UK schools don't do much (anything) at all involving school spirit.

My school tried to have one last year for the first time in years. It got rained out. We probably can't afford one this year.

@Jelly: Really? My school is super school spirit. And most kids kind-of get into it. :)
coccyx: I'm so sorry to hear that. :( That must suck.

You get used to the suck around here. The senior trip last year was out on the football field.
Though my school is being overtaken slowly by a college-funded sort of thing and I am so ready for them to have a homecoming instead of us. I see it happening.

My school's homecoming has been cancelled for the last 2 years, due to massive drunken riots on the streets, and some kid torched and flipped a car two or three years ago. So they cancelled it to prevent this from happening again. I hope it is reinstated next year, just because fauxcoming kind of sucks.
I celebrated homecoming this year, by attending the homecoming football game and talking and greeting with the alumni. After the football game, I was so tired that I didn't want to do anything so I just went to bed and slept for the rest of the night, really lame I know.
(I go to university by the way).
