On my birthday I received three tickets from one sitting unfortunately. But this isn't about that case. Lately I've been seeing lots and lots more police cars around me and hunting down people for traffic violations. This morning I saw about five police cars around a gas station, all of their lights were lit, but then I saw a camera man and a reporter reporting a police officer. Ahh I never know they were camera whores too :) But every three minutes of driving down a road, I see another police car. I also end up driving down a road, with a police car either in front of me, to my right, or to my left, I can't see much behind me lol. But, its crazy, and its making other driver slow down a LOT, very unnecessary in traffic. -___-;;

Talks--
Do you have a lot of police cars around your area?
Any police stories you want to share? Good bad, ugly :)

My mom said that the police aren't getting paid enough or something like that, so that's why they are more scattered around us to catch us doing anything that violates the traffic law. So people will have to be extra careful driving on the roads now.

I always get annoyed that people freak out over police doing their jobs. There's these things called laws and we're supposed to follow them. When you break them, the police step in.

For instance, speeding tickets. A speed limit is supposed to be the maximum limit you can travel on a road. Even if you're only going five miles over, it's still over. But people whine about it as if they're entitled to go faster than the limit. I know that if I get a speeding ticket, it's my own damn fault. Nobody made me speed. Just like nobody makes you commit any crime. If everybody's slowing down every time they see a police car, maybe they shouldn't be driving that fast to begin with. -_-

I wouldn't say I see a lot of police around here. I'd imagine that there's more of them on the other side of town where the crime is bad. We always needed to call them to my old job because of break ins and robberies in the parking lot. That's why I don't work there any more. -_-

My mum said she saw a lot of cops out the other day. But like For-Chan said, they're out there to make sure people follow the laws and punish those who are not. I know, from reading and seeing news, crime is rather high now-a-days because of the recession (people can't afford certain commodities like food and resort to stealing). Likewise, hundreds of people die a year because of speeding related accidents.

Also, keep in mind, the money brought in from the tickets help the local community, the state and the police dispatches too. Think of it as a form of tax set upon you whenever you do something stupid and break the law. If you don't want to fork over your cash, behave yourself on the roads and pay attention to parking laws and whatnot.

Good for you on not working there because of the crime rate.
But most heard around where I am, it is safe to drive five miles over the actual speed limit.
If there was a car chase and the police follows, people would have to get out of the way such as ambulances driving by with the noisy sirens.
People freak out so much when they see a cop near them now -___-;;
I think if people just overreact too much when police comes by ugh.

I see the police around all the time, but it's always been that way. They're all over the place here. For the most part though people don't overreact too much. Sometimes I may have to remind my boyfriend to slow down a tad bit to the speed limit when I see one. He's a mechanic, so he likes to hit the gas.
I have to admit though, those people who slow down to like 30mph on a 45mph road when the see a cop are really annoying. It is okay to drive the speed limit. -.-
I wish cops would pay more attention to people's lack of signaling around here, because a LOT of people just don't do it, and it's extremely fustrating.
What really annoys me though is when I see police cars with brake lights or headlights out. ._.

Drive correctly, then you wont get tickets.

Then you wont have to complain about the police.

The mayor of my city has the audacity to actually cut the academy for training and producing more law enforcers. On top of that, he wants officers to cut hours, and even to cut some of those jobs entirely. He's one of those incredibly homophobic and corrupt Good Ole' Boys.

I'm not a fan of the police.
When I was still learning to drive, having just received a license, I crashed the car on an icy road. The police were polite, courteous and incredibly helpful in front of other adults, but as soon as I was stuffed into the back of a car for "fleeing the scene of a crime" (to make a phone call from a nearby business; I had no cell-phone at the time), they were rude, condescending, and threatened me with jail time and multiple citations.

A cop pulled a gun on me and my little brother and sister when we were little; I have no affection towards anyone in that field of work.

Um, I do see the police a lot, but that's probably my area isn't so nice.

But it's probably because it was around the end of the month. Cops have quotas when it comes to tickets, and near the end of the month, they rush to fill their quotas if they haven't by then.

Just on my walk to school I saw three cop cars ready to pounce! The way I walk to school, it's mostly back-roads and residential so it was very strange and had me worried that a pervert was on the loose or something...

Usually, the only time I see many cops around here is when I'm passing the station. They only seem to come out in force when it's a holiday and they're looking for those drunk drivers.

We have cops at our school every other month, but that's because we have a high percentage of pot smokers.

wow.

@faggy chan
The only thing I did wrong was cutting a person in the center lane. But others are explainable.
Some police are idiots.

im so sorry to hear that :( they're two faced assholes.

My bf said the police is THE law, I just think that is bs. But it might as well be true, so unfair.

Yeah, it's because they aren't getting enough money so they get people for every little thing now. I have police stories but don't really want to type them all out. Let's just say that I used to not be the brightest person when it came to common sense. I've been pulled over a few times but it's for stupid things like speeding or impeding traffic. I do notice that at the end of the month there's a lot more cops around than in the middle of the month.

Where I used to live the cops would stalk me almost every night when I was coming home from work. So I made a log of times and dates for a week and told them to stop harassing me since I didn't do anything. It stopped the day after I made the complaint. My sister was also harassed by the same cop for having a light burnt out that was not even built into her car to begin with. It was so stupid.

I've never gotten a ticket, but there are a decent amount of officers in the area. My friend was driving into town w/me and he was gonna meet his family at Bob Evans for breakfast and he got pulled over. Luckily he got off w/just a warning.

I mostly see the PCSOs rather than actual police though sometimes the PCSOs are accompanied by an actual officer. Plus I see them every time I'm waiting for my fiance in town because they've got a mobile unit opposite my bus stop because of the level of crime in the city centre. I think it's good there are more police around actually doing their job for once.

My mum's car got broke into at work years ago when I was in high school. She got a letter the other year, five years later, saying they'd caught the person and the charge was being added to his new crimes and he was being ordered to pay her compensation. She got another letter a few months ago saying he'd been caught for another offence again and they were adding him failing to pay to his charges but if he actually goes to prison he doesn't have to pay her anything.

i think cops need to chill out a little, i mean srsly they pull ppl over for everything. i've gotten pulled over twice. the first time was because the cop said i looked to young so he had to check my license. yes i look a little young for my age, but i wasn't even doing anything wrong. the second time was when i was driving home in a hail storm and one hit my left taillight, making it go out. a cop gave me a ticket for having a broken tail light. i wanted to kick his face. so annoying. >_<

@Jeanie - what does PCSO stand for?
@Amulet - yeah, that cop was out-of-line
@For-Chan Cookie - that's downright scary, good thing to not work there
@the_paper_crane - the mayor of your town is just asking for trouble to be cutting police funding, hours, and jobs. The cop who pulled a gun on you and your siblings has no business being a cop and needs to be booted off the force. But don't judge all cops on one; I know some good ones.

It makes me pretty depressed to hear a lot of these stories from all of you. I agree that many officers in a variety of areas are out-of-line, shady, and in some cases corrupt. But that's the way it is for every job that has any sort of authority. And the actual good officers have tons of rules and regulations that they follow so they don't overstep their boundaries or authority and keep everything legal. I'm not saying they're perfect because they're not; but we're all human. A few summers ago I attended a Youth Police Academy that really opened my eyes to the complexity of police work. What they do, often putting their lives on the line, is for the betterment of society and the safety of law abiding citizens. I think officers, at least the good ones, should be more respected. But in any case, everyone should learn more about what it is they actually do, because it's hard to understand the 'why' without background knowledge.
Drive safe everyone!

xD.

I'd first like to start by saying that everyone has a right to their opinion, and as such, I wholeheartedly respect that. However, I politely and seriously disagree with the statement that cops are badguys with rights.

Maybe I'm biased. My father has been a State Trooper for over 30 years, and as such I have the highest respect and love for our law enforcement officers. Without them, many more people would be dead, much more crime would be being committed, people would be getting hurt, and the list can go on. The law enforcers are there to protect us and keep us safe.

Now, yes, there are the dirty cops, the one who abuse their position and their power, the ones who think they have more rights than any other human being does. Actually, I see one several times a week because of my job, and I can't stand the man.

I can absolutely understand how someone would lose respect for officers after a bad experience; someone earlier said that they had a gun turned on them when they were younger. That's frightening.

My mother, at ten years old, was escorted through her house by an officer who had his gun drawn for her safety. My father's first arrest was of a man who shot his wife point-blank in front of the entire family.

After 17 years on the road, my father changed positions for Road Officer to State Police Medevac Pilot. My father flies the State Police Helicopters to the scene of an accident and transports the patient from there to the trauma hospital to save their life. Several years ago, a boat capsized in our harbor, and my father flew the search and rescue. Just several weeks ago, a huge water mane broke and several people had to be hoisted out of their cars. It was our State Police in the helicopter that hoisted them and carried them to safety. In order to work in the helicopter, you have to be a trained state trooper.

These men and women are out to keep us safe and save our lives. Yes, there are dirty cops. Yes, there are cops that are assholes and abuse their powers. But the rest of them are men of honor, the men and women that defend us here at home, keep us safe in our houses to the best of the abilities.

I stood in formation with over 2,000 state troopers last year. I stood beside men and women in uniform, tears flowing down all of their cheeks at the funeral for two fallen men. One of our helicopters crashed last year, and we lost a Pilot and a Medic, both state troopers for many years. Both fantastic men. Both fathers, husbands, sons, uncles, brothers, best friends. The medic had a 4 month old baby girl.

The pilot and medic were transporting two teenage girls who'd been in a car crash.

They died saving those girls' lives. Unfortunately yet fortunately so, of the five people on board the helicopter, only one of the girls survived.

So though I respect your opinion, and you have the right to have it--you have the right to feel the way you do, no matter whether or not I agree with it. In the most respectful way that I can, I will tell you that I am offended that you consider cops bad guys with rights. They're some of the most amazing men and women out there.

@Miechan
first off, i'd like to give u kudos for your post, i was moved.
literally.
but what i've said is in my opinion and i probably don't have the same experience with the law enforcements as you do.
if my father was like yours, i would view police/ect. differently.
in my post i was directing my comment towards the cops i hear about from my friends past experiences.
i have a friend that went up to nj to visit his grandma and he lives in va like me.
when he went up north in nj, it was around 1 am, and he was pulled over by a police, the police kept on asking him questions, he thought my friend had stolen his own car [cuz it looked sweet] and then finally gave my friend a $48 fine for having his tail light broken. who would be open past midnight to fix a simple tail light?
so my friend accepts the ticket and continues to his grandma's place as soon as possible, but in nj each county is small, so he was pulled over 3 more times by different policemen. each time he got pulled over, he states "Yes I know my tail light is broken. I am trying to reach to my grandmother's house, its only 10 feet away! Here's my ticket from the first policeman I've encountered tonight"
Thankfully he was let go with the last three policemen.
His grandma went off and does not respect the police in new jersey at all, she paid for her grandson's ticket because she thought it was pretty unfair to receive a ticket for something like that. I know it's necessary for safety, but how can you fix a tail light in the middle of the night?

I am sorry I have offended you, but your father is a proud man, and I am sorry for those that have given up their lives to save others.

well I think a lot of it has to due with the fact that they have a quota...yes they actually have to arrest/hand over tickets to a certain ammount of people by the end of the month, so, If you notice it getting really bad around the end of the month, that's why. They have also been cracking down more on people who haven't paid their fines, at least in my area anyway. actually what they like to do sometimes is hide their car near an interstate/crossing in the mourning with one of those speed gun things and pull over people. Now this is actually entrapment, but they kinda just ignore that.. XD *btw, I have no problem with cops. If it weren't for them it'd all be even worse. Just they way certain things are done make me shake my head..*

Hey, hon' it wasn't you that offended me, and I'm sorry if I stated it that way--it was the comment. But I understand that different experiences cause different opinions, and I respect that completely. I was just giving you my opinion. I understand some of the things that people get pulled over for are ridiculous, but it's just that they're pulled over (most of the time) because of something related to the law. Granted, a friend of mine was pulled over for going 38 in a 30, which is ridiculous. But it's the whole picture, you know? :) I enjoy conversations like this when two people with different opinions can talk like MATURE people! XD

Ooohh are you allowed to go 10 miles over the limit mph in the area?
in VA its 5 miles in city, and 10 on highway.
curious? lol.

Lol well...yeah, we're allowed to, and that's the max I try to push it. Our max interstate speed is 65, and I push 80. Our max highway speed is 55, and I kick it up close to 70, though. Only when I know I'll be alright or when I don't see cops. I keep my eyes open, lol.
