It was, as always, a beautiful sunset. The orange glow of the sun slowly faded into the distance, taking with it the bright colors of the city, while the blue raced across the sky, deeper and deeper, mirrored by the waters below. Antonio watched as the street lights slowly blinked on, revitalizing the streets of Venice in time to show a boat rowing towards the bridge he was on. As it passed below, he sighed. There goes one more person who is still able to live under the sun, he thought.

It was rare that Antonio thought of his lost days, before he had been changed. Tonight, however, the sunset had touched him in an unusual way, bringing back memories of the days he had spent swimming in the river outside his house. All that was gone now. And there's nothing I can do about it, so I should stop torturing myself by remembering.

turning off the bridge, he walked down the road beside the canal. As the sky darkened, his senses became keener. He saw a man across the canal pick up the key to his house from behind the loose brick in the wall. He heard a laughing couple ahead of him talking about the party they had just left. He smelled the fresh pasta from the restaurant ahead of him as a customer opened the door to leave. He could almost taste the blood of the lady who was passing him in the other direction.

Before he could tempt himself, he walked briskly to the road he had been heading to and turned down it. There was a nice weapon shop down here, and it had been at least a century since he'd practiced with a sword. He was wondering if he still had the skill to use one. Time to find out, he thought, stopping for a moment in front of the door. After ensuring it was the right place, he went inside.

Green eyes watched the sunset from a terrace of a nice looking house. With a glass of wine in her hand, Cloe leaned against the railing, a small smile on her face. 'It's so beautiful!' she thought. She didnt' turn her head when her friend came to stand next to her.

"Hey. Don't you think you should be heading home. You got to get ready for tonight, don't you?" he asked, leaning against the railing, arms crossed across his chest. He laughed lightly as a disgusted look crossed her face.

"I guess...." she said, sighing. "I don't really want to go tonight. But you're right. I should go." She set her glass on a glass table sitting nearby. "I'll see you later." She kissed him lightly on the cheek and headed out of the house onto the street. There weren't many people out yet, but the people who were out were holding hands. Cloe dropped her gaze to the ground, not wanting to see them. It used to bother her that she was still single, but was used to it by now.

After taking a deep breath, a small smile spread across her face. She was determined to have fun tonight with her friends and maybe, just maybe, she'd get asked out by anybody really. She wasn't very picky when it came to guys.

She stopped by the river to take a break. Sitting on a bench, she looked out at the people in the boats. She smiled and waved politely and leaned back against the bench. She wasn't in a huge hurry to get home, but she knew if she didn't get back soon, she'd have to rush to be ready. Then her friend would be mad if she didn't look her best. So she stood and started walking again.

Antonio was out of the shop barely 15 minutes later, swinging his new rapier almost carelessly as he walked down the street. It seems he did still possess the skill, and the wall had discovered this the hard way. He had paid for the damages, of course. Now was not the time to ignore an authority.

Deciding to take a boat ride, Antonio went down to the dock where his boat was tied up. He placed the rapier at the bottom of the little ship and picked up the oars. THen he untied himself, and set off down the river.

The city always looked more beautiful to him from a boat, possibly because the motions caused him to relax and lose enough concerns to notice such beauty. Here he could traverse the city without being ostracised by his own desire for blood. This was why he had chosen to live here in the first place, and why he was trying so hard not to be forced out. It was a beautiful city, from any angle. Perhaps on par with Rome.

After a little while, he realized that he had a metal weapon in the bottom of the boat and rowed back to his dock to put it away. When he returned, he decided to go for a walk instead of getting back in the boat. Perhaps it was time to grab a bite to drink... but on the other hand, perhaps it could wait. He was currently having one of those nights where he was thoroughly entranced by the city around him. It didn't matter if he waited a few more minutes, or maybe a couple more hours. As long as he got around to it, it could wait.

As Cloe walked, her mind began to wander as her gaze floated from one thing to another. Lucky for her though, not many people were out tonight. With the thought of going out tonight, her happy, carefree attitude slowly changed to one of dread and she dropped her gaze to the ground.

'What am I supposed to wear...' she thought, mentally going through her closet. 'I have to look beautiful or they will throw a fit...' She sighed. She searched her mind frantically until the perfect outfit came to mind. She smiled so suddenly that a random passerby looked at her like she was crazy. "I got it!" she exclaimed happily. But her mood dropped again when she realized she had to do something with her hair.

Said hair wasn't exactly the easiest thing to style. She couldn't curl it. It would come undone within the hour. It was already straight enough, so that was out of the question. She shrugged and decided it would just be easier to figure out once she was dressed. She glanced up at the sky for a second and hurried her pace to her house, realizing she wasn't going to run out of time.
