So with little bits and pieces of new popping up on the movie I thought I would ask a few question to you guys and get a bit of a discussion going.

What do you think of Michael Bay as a director (yes, he's been signed on for the third Transformers (for those who didn't know, he was iffy on it for a while))?

Personally, sometime I love his stuff, sometimes I hate it. I love what he did with Transformers (the first movie) didn't like what he did with Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. The story was a wreak and the only thing I did like about it was all the really well animated Autobot vs Decepticon battle scenes.

To be honest, I had half been hoping they'd get a new director, someone who actually likes Transformers on it after that second film (I saw an interview were Bay said outright when he got the call about making the 1st he was completely uninterested because he didn't want to do a kids movie, then he saw the character designs and heard the direction they wanted to push it in and got interested (I think that's why he was had super over kill on all the sex/sexual innuendos in the 2nd movie. It was on the verge on over kill in the 1st, but he managed to keep it at a reasonable level).

I'm hoping and praying the third movie won't be as big of a wreak (or even worse of one) because Bay is apparently pushing hard to get it out a year earlier than what was originally planned (which is rather frightful. Rushed stories/movies tend to, but not always, have big problems).

Here's an article that I found yesterday: http://movies.yahoo.com/feature/take5-10-05-09.html

My favorite part about it was the end, when he verbally "smacked" Megan Fox for her outburst a while back.

Quote:
"Megan Fox.... Please consult your Physician when working under my direction because some side effects can occur, such as mild dizziness, intense nausea, suicidal tendencies, depression, minor chest hair growth, random internal hemorrhaging and inability to sleep. As some directors may be hazardous to your health, please consult your Doctor to determine if this is right for you."

Transformers Transformers.

No-one even knew about them before the movie came out.

I like Transformers before all the favouritism and popularity.

Let's hope it doesn't happen to my other cartoons. D:

Hey now D; I've been a fan of Transformers since I was a small child (G1 and Beast Wars, I remember far more about the latter one though seeing as I was an infant and then a toddler when G1 was out, but I do remember snippets... must have been from re-runs later on, but I remembered the character designs for Optimus and Megatron when I re-saw them at an older age). I grew up loving them

And FYI. LOADS of people knew about them before the movies. It's just the young-ins (the new generation of kids) that got introduced by the movies. They wouldn't have done the films if there wasn't a huge following

I loved Transformers! The first one was great, but the second one sort of went downhill a bit. Hopefully a third will pick it back up again.

I used to love Beast Wars as a Kid. I didn't go to see Transformers 2 after I heard it was very bad (though apparently part of it was shot here in Tucson, out at the Airplane Graveyard) but I loved the first one, especially the transformation scenes. Heck, my favorite 40 seconds of the movie is when Starscream unfolds, lands, fires a few rockets, and then jumps into the air and Transforms/flies off before he hits the ground. I want a plane that does that! (or a Helicopter)

As for 3, I'll keep a wait and see approach, and as we get closer to a release date, decide whether it's worse seeing 2 to see 3.

I am with I Liek Halo 3, I liked the cartoons way~ before the movies. I think that the cartoons were better. Most of the hype is probably surrounding Megan Fox, and not the actually story, or even the amazing transforming robots!
Hotshot, dammit. D: It just sounds way~ more awesome than "Bumblebee". Even if it was his original name, they changed it for a reason. :sarcasm:
Haha. Sorry, had to get it out. :P

On topic: I carry little opinion about the director...
I might go to see the third movie. Maybe... :/ Depends on what I hear from those I trust.

Hotshot is a totally different character :/ In fact, Hotshot was spawned off Hotrod's personality (aka Rodimus Prime) from G1, not Bumblebee's. Two completely different entities.

I loved the first movie, it was genius, but second movie was so....ugh, there were kids there! How awkward!

Personally, I think his job on the second one, well the action was good but the script/plot line sucked, so I'm curious how the third one will turn out.

???

What are you talking about?

Transformers is practically global. The movies had nothing to do with boosting its popularity, it was already known.

I know >__< The cartoons aren't even made in America anymore. All these new ones are being made in Japan... actually, I don't even think Beast Wars was made in America either. I want to think Rainmaker made it and they're in Canada.

Unless you are referring to animation and the cost to ship things overseas to be finished. Then I am not sure what you are talking about.

America had Transformers: Animated.

Oh ye gods, they're keeping him?! There went my hopes. =/ I admit, the only reason I adore Revenge of the Fallen so much is because of the beginning and end of the movie. Optimus Prime kicked major ass. ^^

However, not happy that Bay is getting his mitts on TF3. I'm with you Erailea, I want a director who's a fan of Transformers. As for writing, they also apparently are only using Kruger this time, so I don't know if the story will be any good or not. Honestly, Revenge of the Fallen's novelization off of the script was way better than the movie's actual story in my honest opinion.

I found Revenge to be weakest story wise because Bay spent too much of the movie on the epic battle/scenes of destruction that the story didn't have time to develope. I really wonder how much it would have killed him to leave in the deleted scene where Ron talks about his insecurities about letting Sam off on his own, even though it did end with Judy *cough* flirting with him. At least that's sex I could take! The worst scene in the entire movie to me is when you go from watching Sam run from the kitchen-bots to the dogs humping. Gah! At least with the Witwicky scene we'd have had some characterization going on!

@ I liek Halo 3: Yes, the movie did get me way into Transformers, but I liked Transformers before that. One of my earliest memories involves Beast Wars.

I know I'm in the minority on this one, but I love Transformers:Cybertron. I pick on Armada and can't stand Energon. I also love G1, and I'm so glad that they're rereleasing it for the 25th anniversary. This means I don't have to youtube everything like I had to before.

I still have yet to see the second one. I'm really bad with keeping up with movies since I've been in college.

But I really liked what he did with the first one. I thought he did a good job of recreating something that people really liked as kids. It came out at a time when people who used to play with them are getting older, and they did a good job of translating that. They also did a good job of marketing it to the right audience. I've seen so many movies fail because of that.

I don't think you can blame him too much or praise him too much, though. I know he has the final say in everything, but there are writers and producers and editors who make the movie into what it ends up being too.

I watched the first one - thought that was good, same with the second one as well :] so I am hoping the third will be just as good. As for the director I didn't know who he was until Transformers.. I mean I dont know any other films he has directed :|

In all honestly...I thought the two Transformer movies were crap, and I don't care very much for the director. What I don't like about the two movies is that many young kids went to see the movies, and Michael Bay creates an abject worship of the military, and the way that Bay portrays the military in the Transformers movies is a glorified view of the military (which is pretty much false) and it's being shown to kids who will just think it's awesome because of all the fighting and not think in depth about issues in that movie that they probably need to. And I'm not trying to start an argument on this thread. It's not that I hate the military, I just hate how it gets advertised. I know somebody who's a war vet, and even he says that the way the army is advertising itself is shameful. I have nothing against people joining the military, I just don't want people joining on a false premise of the military and what it's like.

ANYWAYS, back on track. I haven't seen a whole lot of Bay's movies, but I've seen reviews for a couple of them, and what I've heard from the reviews isn't that great, so I don't intend on watching any of his other films.

@ TheYaoiButterfly: Yeah, I was a little concerned about how many young kids I saw brought to the second movie. I mean, the first was a movie I wouldn't think twice about taking my seven year old nephew to, but I would think twice about Revenge simply for all the awful sex jokes.

As for Bay's movies, you won't be missing much by not seeing the rest. Personally, the only one that I would suggest is Armageddon, but that's because for once the Bay's love of special effects actually sort of fit the plot.

@Skye: eeehhh...I saw a review for that by someone...and...yeah...I don't think I'm going to watch it...the people said it sucked. I trust their opinions about movies for the most part

@ YaoiButterfly: Eh, I was just saying. Personally I thought it was okay, but then again I did spend half of it making cracks at the television screen, so . . . *shrug*
