(I hope I have this in the right place, I was swithering between CD and Site Feedback. If not feel free to move it <3)
Anyway, after yesterday's announcement about the current financial situation that Mene it was painfully obvious that the site needs some more cash flow coming in or ultimately we shall die
Now I was thinking of things that could be done (free) to try and increase the ammount of people we have on the site who may be willing to donate or who could maybe offer an answer to what could help us, and then I remembered something.
Another avatar site I am on, Kinsaki, are in a very dire state at the moment, worse than Mene because their owner is abandoning the site after deeming them unprofitable and the site is facing possible closure. One user there created a Facebook group dedicated to saving Kinsaki.
Now the group provides more publicity to the site, sort of like an advertisment but free, and could attract in more users.
I was wondering what the people of Mene thought of this idea. Do you think if we made a Save Menewsha facebook group it would bring in more people to the site? Would any of you be interested in joining if such a group was made?

Personally, I don't like the term "save" because people who never heard of the site will more likely not join if they think the site may close down. It would have to be kept active and interesting though to keep people joining and actually coming here if you are going to do a "save" group. It's easier to click a button on Facebook than to actually go to the website. It is a good idea to get Mene's name out in the public more though.

Yeah I was thinking myself that Save Menewsha seemed a little too much like its fate was set in stone.
Grow Menewsha is an awesome idea ^^

Question though.
If we get more people to join the group, the ratio of donaters to non-donaters will probably remain equally tiny, won't it? So doesn't growing the community really do little to increase cash flow?

Well that is probably true, but even if only a few of those people who join donate it is still more money going into the site is it not?

I suppose, but wouldn't it still cost more since there's more people on the site? O.o

Well you see, I'm not entirely sure. I don't really know how it all works. I don't know if it gets more expensive per account that is regestered or that is active or what.

I think the site mostly needs financial awareness...
My fiance made a banner yesterday to link to Inso's announcement so that people wont forget about it and "move on with their daily lives"

Hermes, we need more people regardless of whether they donate or not. Obviously if new people join and do donate then that's fantastic, but if we gain new users who stick around and boost activity but can't donate then that's still good, because the site could do with being a bit busier. Constant activity is an important thing for making users want to stick around, and the more someone's on the site and enjoying it, the more they're likely to be tempted to donate. Whether it's from discovering an old item that's expensive and they want to quest for, or just liking the current CIs and wanting them for themself, or simply just getting into the community as a whole, having a few dollars to spare and deciding to supply others with CIs.
Once a person becomes attached to a site and starts to feel part of the community they're generally far more likely to want to support it if they can, so in drawing in fresh faces there's always the potential that they'll turn into donators :)
And bear in mind the traffic that we have during events, generally double everyday figures...the server can take a lot more people being online at once before it's going to explode :)

Jelly's got a point about more users... plus they can invite their friends who have potential to donate =3
:ninja: but I'm oh so curious what jelly would look like working at McDonalds... "thank you for your order, would you like banhammered with that?"

I agree and I am glad that you are trying to do something about it. I think that if we all helped with advertising the site ourselves for free then it might make a difference to the amount of new users rolling in. A facebook group is a great way to get more acknowledgement, and if more groups are made, then there is more publicity and more likeliness that someone will see and find out about menewsha. This can be done by users of lots of other websites too. I would love to be able to make a twitter account to support menewsha, and bring more people in to the site, including different ages and interests. However, I don't know whether this is allowed etc. I would love to know as I think this would be a great benefit and if lots of users tried to get the word out themselves it could help menewsha.

What would the group be named though? Because there is allready a Menewsha group on FB, and Save Menewsha probably wouldn't help at all. Would it be Grow Menewsha?

I think it's a great idea, getting the word out there. Facebook is obviously a great way to do it, and even Twitter. Does mene have a Twitter yet?
And even posting in blogs.. Think of all the advertising if tons of people posted about mene in their blogs.

Whatever you call any groups that you start anywhere, just make sure the name you choose is postitive
Remember that as users you know the site is struggling and you're kind of focussing on that fact right now to the exclusion of all else. But any strangers who see anything that you start outside of Menewsha will be coming upon it afresh and will need to see it in as positive a light as possible to make them want to sign up :)
