(I can. c: )

"It's such a shame the old wizard died.."

"I know, I loved that sweet old man..And what will our highnesses do now that they don't have a court wizard? It's not exactly easy to find fine wizards in thsi day and age, they're all holy priests, in hiding, or they practice dark magic.."

"I'm sure they'll find a replacement for him soon..You should not worry so."

Servants said to eachother as they did their chores, unaware of the dark skinned stranger coming to their door.

Mere days before, the royal archmage died in his sleep of unknown causes..And already, they had young mage apprentices at their doorstep begging to take the place. but they were too young, too weak.

Practicers of dark magics came to overtake the spot, but the king and his subjects saw through their lies..

But then there was him.
He looked to be one of the 'mages in hiding' that the servants spoke of, who lived in the forests and spoke to nature as if they were childhood friends with every tree, every animal.

He had tan skin and long, greyish white-gold hair that presented a nice contrast against his dark skin. His eyes were light blue, and lightly glew underneath the hood that covered his face.

He wore a deep blue cloak, adorned in gorgeous patterns in the same color as his hair, underneath it he wore a matching robe, with deep blue cloth pants, and ankle-high dark brown boots, also adorned quite beautifully.

Around his neck were various necklaces, all with silver chain and blue, black and white jewels, if they had a pendant at all, and he also wore long gloves, so the only skin seen was his face, which had gorgeous tattoo work up the sides of his cheeks and right below his eyes, ending near his cheek bone, in navy blue. upon much closer inspection the tattoos on his cheeks were gorgeous, intricate runes inscribed into the man's face. one could assume the reason for all of the covering of his body was because the rest of his body was covered in these ancient runes, which not even the eldest wizard alive, not even the last archmage, could understand..Maybe an ancestor of that archmage would, that is just how old they were..And with age in magic comes power.

The mage walked through the doors once he was let in and he made his way up to the throne of the king, bowing deeply before kneeling down on one knee before the throne. "Your highness, I come to seek the place of the great archmage before me.I am sorry for the loss of whom I assume was a great friend and ally to you since even your own birth, I too grieve for the loss of such knowledge and wisdom that he held.He was a great man, and I would hope to be much greater.." He said with an odd, thick accent to his voice, peeking out from under his hood up at the king. "I am not a dark mage nor a young, unexperienced apprentice.I am young for my profession and my race, but, not to sound arrogant, I believe I have experience beyond my years..I have no purpose other than this, I have lost everything I had long, long ago.No family will weep to see me gone for the rest of my long, long life, no woman nor child will come through the doors behind me.I am alone in this world, and I have been for a very long time, almost since I was merely an infant."

((XD))

The king was still deeply seated in grief. The old wizard had been his closest friend, even though they had had their differences concerning his son. The old wizard had held a bit of distaste for the boy because he had no interest in his family background, or going to fancy parties...it seemed unnatural for a royal.

The man sighed, shifting in his throne. "...You seem like a worthy candidate," he decided finally. "All right. Now, a way to test you..."

He paused. "There is one thing our old archemage was never able to do, not completely, anyway. If you can do what he couldn't...then you may take his place..."

The wizard nodded."I will do my best..What would you have me do, your majesty?" He said, those glowing blue orbs he had as eyes looking at the king with a glimmer of hope..Maybe he could finally have a place to truly call home..This land was quite foreign to him although he had lived in it his whole life..He followed teh works of the Archmage and other great figures in magic, but that was the most contact he ever had to the world outside of the forest. He didn't actually feel as if the king bfore him was in fact his own king, his country's king, so he did not address him as 'my king', that would be lying, now wouldn't it?

((D:...Your second two words look like swords! XD Nah, it's okay. Type as much or as little as you like.))

The king studied him silently for a moment, seeming to be contemplating something. "...I can see that you're certainly capable when it comes to your skill. However. This 'entry exam' of sorts has little to do with it."

He cleared his throat. "The Archemage was always a prominent figure in our lives. In social events, he would wow everyone with his stories and demonstrations of his magic...but. There is one person he was never able to gain the favor of, for reasons even I'm not aware of."

Again, he paused, thinking about something...and then he sat up a bit more, expression set. "If you want to take the Archemage's place, gain the favor of my son, Prince Mycroft. He and the Archemage never saw eye to eye...it created many problems in our family. If you can gain his favor, I will automatically grant you the position you desire. You will find him in the castle library at this hour."

(...CAN'T UNSEE)

"Ah..Thank you, your majesty..I will do my best to gain your son's favor.Thank you.." He stood and deeply bowed again, then was directed to the library by a nearby servant. He followed the young girl in maid garb to the library and thanked her for leading him there, smiling from under his hood at the girl. Sheblushed lightly and ran off, heading back to her daily chores without another word to the mage.

The man chuckled a bit as she left and opened the doors into the library, entering and shutting the door behind him. he walked through the rows of books, towards teh sitting area, assuming that if he didn't see the prince among the rows that he would be already reading in one fot he chairs. His leather boots made noise as the tough soles hit the hardwood floor. he pulled back his hood off of his head revealing his hair's length, down to his midback braided, and his bangs covered his eyes just a bit, which now seemed to glow less now that they were in full light.

((Oh no! D: ))

The library was full of long rows of old books. It looked like it should be a very stuffy room, but along the wall every single window was open, the shutters flung wide open outside.

It was also deserted, save for one person. There was a semi-short boy, with a full head of soft, curly blonde hair standing by one of the windows, his elbows propped up on it. His back was to the library doors and he was distracted, so he didn't see or hear the mage come in, and the mage couldn't see his face or front.

He was wearing simple but elegant clothing--white underclothing and an old blue cloak he was fond of. The slight breeze blowing inside ruffled his hair a bit.

The mage saw the young man and stood behind him, waiting to see if he would notice him before speaking. "..I assume you are Prince Mycroft?" He said, letting his accent run free. It was odd, ti sounded as if he was restraining his tongue from speaking a much more intricate language, one that would mkae his tongue dance in his mouth with a simple sentence like the one he just spoke..It was an odd sounding, sometimes nigh undecipherable accent, but it was quite..Elegant.Interesting.

Now that his hood was off, two long ears could be seen, that were being restrained by the fabric. They were sort of thin and they stuck about six inches off of his head, angling towards the back so they weren't rediculous looking simply sticking off of his head in a perfectly horizontal manner, and were pierced in multiple places, two on each of the lobes, with a tube-like ring attatched to each top piece of cartilage, with a couple of rings in the main length of each. The tubes were inscribed with timilar runes to the ones on his cheeks, and so were the smaller rings..how the smaller ones were etched into although they were already so small was really rather amazing.

(Does he sound too much like a gary-sue?D: HE'S JUST SO PRETTY.
But he's not without flaws entirely..Especially if someone was to learn his name. >_>; BITCHSLAVE WIZARD, ANYONE?)

((No, he's okay! XD We will see. Mycroft has a way with words. X3 ))

Startled, the boy flipped around...to reveal the reason why there were so many stories of young girls crowding the front of the castle gates and trying to break in to see him. He had a very pretty face, if not a little girlish--large arctic blue eyes, slightly rounded cheekbones, and pale, smooth skin. He was slender, without too much muscle.

Unlike many princes, he wore plain clothing and didn't wear any sort of crown or family crest. This indifference for his nobility was what turned off the old Archemage.

For a moment, the boy just stared at him, studying him. Then, he lifted his arm and simply waved at him. "That's me. Mycroft." His speech was terribly casual...

The wizard bowed to Mycroft. "It is a pleasure to meet you..I am here seeking the position of archmage..Your father told me that you and the late archmage did not see eye to eye..So I thought I would meet you, in order to not..Start off on the wrong foot with the man I very well might be serving for a good portion of my life, once his majesty retires or passes." The wizard said, his eyes examining the prince's surprisingly simple figure as he spoke.

"..Your family has quite the large library..I could spend ages in here..I almost wonder if my predecessor left any sort of diaries for the next archmage, or hid any ancient tomes within the rows, in long dead languages.." He said, the long dead language hinted towards those tattoos on his face, and possibly the rest of his body.

Mycroft frowned at the mention of the old man. "Huh. That guy? His negativity is probably what took his life..." he commented offhandedly. It would have been very cold if Mycroft hadn't broken out into a huge grin two seconds later. "No, it was old age, I'm joking. I didn't like him...sure, he was talented and whatnot, but he treated me like I was either a very small child or a brainless klutz. I can't stand it when people look down on me, or anyone else for that matter."

He paused, running a hand through his curly hair. "But, enough about him. By the by, just call me Mycroft, or Myca. All of that formal jargon makes me feel like I'm on some sort of pedestal, above everyone else..."

Mycroft proceeded to walk around him, curiously. "There are a lot of old books here. The oldest ones are in the old man's private library, and he did say he was leaving them for the one who took his place." He paused suddenly and then scampered back in front of him, standing there in silence for a moment. He seemed insanely curious about him, but was reluctant to ask anything.

"'Tis a shame he was human..If he had been of my race he would not have died until much, much later..But I guess fate decided that it was to be me that served you through your years as king..As sad as it may sound, that I am only able to carry out destiny through another's fate.." He sighed, his ears lowering sadly.

"I think I'd like to take a look at those books of his later..That is if I do become Archmage..You see..To be entirely honest, your father said the only way for me to become Archmage is if..You approved of me, if you and I could see eye to eye..Although I find it odd that a prince would speak so..Casually..It's not necissarily a bad thing..It's just how your mind works, how your voice likes to be heard." He said, seeming a bit nervous at how interested Mycroft was in him.He just wished, pleaded, no-- prayed to his Gods that the boy wouldn't ask for his name.

"Although..I cannot bring myself to call you by your first name, I would feel like I would be out of line..And 'my prince' or 'my king' sounds odd to me..I am..Not exactly from this realm, completely. At least I never grew up with many of the customs..So it's hard for me to say 'My king' without feeling like I'm lying..I am speaking too much, I am very sorry."

Mycroft shrugged, scampering off to plop down into one of the cushy reading chairs. He liked them. "That's some really negative thinking you have going on," he pointed out, still seeming interested.

"If I approve of you, hmm?" There was a short spell of silence. "Well. If you're not going to treat me like I'm mentally handicapped and can't understand proper English, then we'll get along just fine. I don't like being treated like I'm an imbecile."

Mycroft extended a hand to him. "Then what about my nickname, Myca? It's not my first name and it's not a formal title. I guess you can call me something formal, like your highness, in public, but Myca is okay for just us and the servants, I suppose!" Something seemed to occur to him. "Oh. Silly me! What should I call you? Do you have a name?"

"Ah..I'm sorry." He lightly flushed. "I did not mean to be depressing.."

"I would not think that of you at all..If that is the late Archmage's thoughts of you, I may reconsider my level of respect for his memory..I am not one to judge someone merely because they speak differently than I do..If it is your wish to speak more commonly, then I have no right to judge that. I am sure my accent is even a bit hard to understand.." He said, choosing to sit in the chair across from Myca. "Myca..I guess I can handle that.Mica is a glimmering stone..I think it is fitting as a name for royalty.Does Prince Myca fit, or is that still too formal for your liking.."

He froze up for a moment when asked for his name and he seemed nervous. "Well..I..I-I..I would love to have something for you to call me other than 'Mage' or any other names pertaining to my profession, but..There is a certain bit of a mage's power that requires me to be cautious of who I just casually say my name to.. I-It's not that I do not trust you.. B-but..I feel as if..I must know you closer. Much closer. I would either need to see what kind of intentions you have for your country when you take over your father's position, ro I would need to know you as a close friend.I hope I do not sound as if I am mistrusting of your nature, fo your intentions..But to be horribly blunt, I have learned that a pretty face..Can oftentimes hide a rotten heart. I..I do not think that of you however.."

Mycroft giggled softly, finding the flushing rather adorable. "Oh, it's okay! I deal with enough depressing stuff around here, anyway. Draaaama. So much draaaama."

Mycroft danced a little in his seat, smiling. "He was an incredible man skill-wise, so don't look at him too much differently. We just bashed heads all the time, because of the way he thought of me. Oh, sure, perfectly polite to everyone else...but then when it comes to me...ugh." He perked up. "I didn't know that. Hehe...having people call me Prince anything is a little too formal for me, but you can use just Prince and just Myca as two names for me, if you want!"

Mycroft seemed a little puzzled by his reaction. But, he nodded, smiling. "Okay...um...ah-ha!" He quickly hopped out of his seat. "Let's go do something...friendly! That friends do!" He grinned. "Like play a game, or go out for a walk and have a nice talk...go on a picnic...anything!"

"I can understand..Being a prince must be very stressful..Certain things are expected of you and sometimes they aren't exactly to your liking..Although that's life's song in general.Even the luckiest man has his downfalls." The wizard said, fiddling with his robe's hem a bit as he tried to avoid the subject of his name.

"My caretaker always brought me books he and other pwoerful mages had written when he went into the city..I spent hours studying him, he was the closest thing I had to a hero other than the man who took me in..That man died a few years ago..He was human..It's sad..To see your human friends age and die as is normal to then while you stay just as young and alive..I'm being depressing again, I'm sorry, Prince.."

"A-ah..That sounds good..A walk would be nice..Maybe you could show me around the palace? That way if and when I begin living here, I know my way already." His ears perked up and his face seemed to brighten a bit, a subtle smile gracing his tan lips.

"I'd rather be a commoner, in terms of my free will," Mycroft complained, lightly. "I guess so...I don't want all these things expected of me. I'm me, but I'm not much more than that..."

He sighed quietly. "I'm not much...of a magic user...I tried, but the only thing I've found I can control is water. And that's not even much control...I'd love to learn sometime, but I want to learn from someone I like, not from someone who treats me like I'm stupid. It's why I never learned much with the old Archmage..."

Mycroft jumped up and down, excitedly. "I'd love to show you around! Let's go!" He held out his hand, for his new friend to take.

"A commoner's life isn't easy either..You get diseases easier being in unclean enviroments, you might not even have a good bed, or a roof over your head even if your life takes a bad turn.."

"..I could teach you." He said, his eyes lightly glowing as he pulled a book right out of a shelf, surrounding it in a pulsing blue light as it floated into his hands. "If you have the potential for magic, then it can grow very slow..Or very rapidly. One important rule is to not get power hungry.Powerful spells feel good to unleash, but going overboard might cost you your soul, figuratively or literally.." He looked through the book, a beginner's spellbook, then he handed it to Myca. "This would work well for you. Is there a place I could put this, so I can easily find it when we need it?"

He nodded. "Once I get this put away..I have to admit, I can pull books off shelves easily with my magic but putting them back is quite tricky."

"It has to be better than being cooped up in here all the time, and having to go to floozy parties..." Mycroft quipped, frowning. "I want to see the world...I want to get sick, to get hurt...I want to live."

Mycroft took the book quite easily, studying it. "Ooohhh, it looks interesting," he replied, brightly. "I'll hide it here!" He slid the book snugly under one of the chair cushions. "Nobody will look for it here, and I'll remember where it is!"

Now that the book was put away, cozily, Mycroft held out his hand again, expectantly.

"Mmh..It isn't perfect..The prince wants to be a commoner, every commoner dreams of being a prince..Odd, hm?"

The wizard nervously grasped the prince's hand in his own gloved one, his eyes' glow now dying down again. "Lead the way, Prince.."

"Quite a twist, no?" Mycroft hummed, swinging their arms around slightly. "This way, this way!"

He turned and led his new friend out of the library and down the hall, to the left. As he walked, he pointed many things out, including the servants' mess hall--where he liked to sneak into to eat--and the royal bedrooms. His own was next to his father's.

The wizard made note of all these places in his mind, keeping a pretty accurate map of he castle in his brain as he attempted to memorize it all, following the prince silently through the halls.

"..Where is the archmage's room?Seeing as I may be staying there soon..It..Seems as if I might, since you are taking a liking to me, but I would not like to make a rude assumption.."

Mycroft froze in his tracks, then backpedaled a bit until they were standing in front of the royal rooms again. "It's next to mine, on its free side!" He pointed to the rather plain door next to the crystal blue door to Mycroft's room.

He swung their hands back and forth again. "As long as you promise to not treat me like I'm an idiot, then we'll be okay!"

"Ah..I'll have to peek inside later then, once my tour is finished." He said, nodding as he made note of his door.

"I would never think that of you, Prince. To be quite frank I think that is something very innapropriate to think about someone like you..Not just because you are a prince, either.I assure you, I am not my predecessor, nor will I attempt to follow in his misguided footsteps in my relationship with you." He said, not noticing that awkward double meaning of 'relationship with you' that could be taken quite out of context.

"Sure, we can come back here," Mycroft assured him, flashing a charming smile.

He paused, then disregarded the comment about a relationship. Honestly, he didn't mind--whatever happened would happen. "Okay, that's good to know! Let's stop by the throne room to talk to my father before we continue." At his questioning glanced, he smiled again. "So we can tell him you've passed your 'entrance exam' with me!"
