Arctic smiled happily as he adjusted the mask as he looked at his outfit in the mirror at the cloths that he would be wearing for the ball. He wore a white fluffy shirt with a matching black vest that had fake gold embroidery along the buttons that complemented the vest. He wore plan black pants with black fancy shoes. He had his hair slicked back with oil. He turned and looked at how the back looked like. He smiled glad with the way he turned out. He smiled as he got his top hat and then his over coat. He looked like a mysterious man that was invited. He couldn't wait for it to start. He had a good hour and knew some people that lived there would be starting to get there.

"Hey, Sam. I think I'll head down first. Remember to be fashionably late." he said with a wave to his friend who was wearing the over fancy cloths to show that he was the king. He smiled a bit at him knowing that he would do a good job since he had done a few of these appearance for him. It was great how he had someone to run to when he needed it. And today was defiantly a need it day. He walked to the door and had his i'm a servant walk to him. He opened the door and immediately ran into one of the maids. He bowed to her and smiled behind the mask as he continued on his walk as she walked into the kings room and started to fuss over him even though that he was finished with getting ready.

He walked down the hall and made sure that no one knew it was him. He walked to the stairs and watched the people as they passed him. No one paid any attention to him. Thoughts of her pass through his head and he shook his head a bit. I can't think of her anymore.... he thought to himself as he thought of a great idea and got a marker and went to a mirror. he put a tear drop down one of the eyes and he knew that this would work. It was going to be great. He was going to find a braid. Get married and have wonderful children. Or that's what he hoped he would fine. It had been many years since he'd become king and he felt that his people wanted him to have a a son that would be the next prince. He walked down to where he knew the ball would be held and saw that there were a few people there already. He bowed at a few of the girls who giggled as he walked in. Of course they couldn't see his face but they could see his body and that's all they really cared about. Most girls these days looked for that in men so that their kids would have that good look instead of looking at giving their kids the right food. How silly these people were. he thought to himself as he sighed.

Alex walked into a room. She was wearing very VERY frilly dress. She hated this dress. But she had to wear. That's what you wear to balls. And this was a ball. She looked around and stuff. It looked like everyone else had on masks. Alex didn't have a mask. She needed to blend in, to protect her charge. She saw a dumb looking girl near where she was standing. She walked over to her.

"Hi. I'm maria~" She said under her breath to the dumb girl. "Meet me in that closet." She pointed to the closet by the girl's left handed right shoulder. The girl nodded and walked into the closet.

Alex grabbed her mask off her face and locked her inside.

Arctic walked over to the food table and couldn't help himself. He smiled as he at the food. He watched as a lot more people started to arrive and he bowed at them as they talked with him. He really didn't want to talk since he was pretty sure that everyone would be able to tell who he was. He sniffled slightly as he watched as the "king" walked in. Everyone changed from their bored to a happy look. He couldn't believe that people would act like they were having fun though they weren't. He frowned under his mask as he stood up and walked over to sam. He bent forward.

"These people aren't having fun. Let see if we can spice things up with a dance or something like that." he told him and Sam nodded. He stood up and moved towards the group. He bowed to them and the music started to fill the room. He could see people blinking. They weren't used to having music at the balls cause Arctic's father had forbidden it. They all started to smile and dance around. Sam was forced into a dance or two and Arctic couldn't help but to feel bad since he was forced to do it with the two girls that Sam hated the most.

Arctic went back to a table and sat down. He wondered if anyone would ask him to dance or he would be ignored.

Alex was happy. Alex had a mask now. And the music drowned out the yelling of the girl trapped in the closet.

Now that no one would notice her blinking eyes under her stolen mask of righteousness she walked over to a food eating table. On the table there were things to eat, and other things to eat. This made Alex mad. It reminded her of when she was poor in the desert with nothing to eat but sand and camels. Damn rich people. They always indulged themselves. Just like Artic.

Who was that anyway? She had forced him so far into the back of her mind that she couldn't even remember his voice. It had been years since they had seen one another's round and plump faces. Plump with happiness that is. She swung her hips wildly and approached the table where there was so much food. She sat next to a boring look person, hoping they wouldn't talk to her but not knowing that secretly it was the Artic that she had just been thinking at.

Arctic saw the girl walk over with food and nodded towards her but didn't speck. He wondered who the girl was under the mask but she didn't matter at the time. He wanted to find some people to talk to. He wanted to ask them things about the king that was now being passed off onto another dancer. He sided softly and then let his head fall flat on the table that he was resting slightly on. He let his fingers slide over the soft fabric that lined the table. "Maybe this was too much." he whispered softly to himself as he sat up and looked around at the elegant fabric that littered the walls of the ball room. It lined the ceiling and made the ceiling look larger then it really was. He ran his fingers through his slick hair that ended up falling back and over the mask that he wore.

He looked back at the girl and masked his voice slightly before talking. "So what do you think of this ball?" he asked as he felt arms go around him and he couldn't help but to jumped and move away from the person.

"Sorry." the girl giggled as she covered the mouth of the mask that hide her plump lips. "I thought you were my boyfriend. He told me he would be wearing that mask but I've just been dancing with the prince." she told him and that's when he recognized her. She was Sam's girl friend. He'd been meaning to meet her but hadn't had the time.

"I'm sure he'll show up by the last dance at least and give you the time you've asked for." he said with a low bow showing he was lower class then her. He smiled under his mask as he looked back at the other girl as he wondered if she would answer his question.

Alex looked at the masked man with hate. He had interrupted her eating. She had been poor before and liked to stuff her face uninterrupted by rich brats. Also this man had stupidly been hitting his head on the table. He was obviously an annoying brat.

"Do you need something butthead?" She asked with hate and lust. "I hate this ball and you and everyone" She yelled. "My heart has been broken. And I miss my lover, so go away." She said and began to cry while thinking lustful thoughts at the body of the masked man.

Arctic wasn't sure what he should have said to the girl. He looked at her with sadness even though he knew she couldn't see it. He wished he was able to take off his mask but he knew that it would just cause more problems. "I'm very sorry to hear this. Truly I am." he said as he slightly touched her hand. "I'll leave you to your food since its obvious you do not wished to be bothered." he said as he got up and left the girl behind at the table. He wasn't sure what to do now. He'd given the girl the only free table and he really didn't want to be yelled at for sitting at an already occupied table. He decided that the soft breeze of the wind might be good so he decided to venture outside and take off the mask to get a breather. He turned towards the opened windows to the balcony and walked towards them. He stepped out and into the fresh air. It felt as though he stepped into a cool bath with the way the wind moved through his cloths and across his skin. He lifted his hand and removed his mask as he felt a few tears fall for the girl he'd left at the table. He wasn't sure what to do now. He was thinking of holding a party that the hole town could go to. But should he hold it in town. Or just figure something else out.

Alex felt really bad at herself for having yelled at the man. He reminded her in voice and body of Artic, the only man she had ever loved. After the incident in the forest the two had stuck together for awhile but eventually he couldn't stand her new harsh personality. And they had seperated. He was King now and a thousand years away from where she'd ever be. It was her fault and as she had aged the harsh personality had given way to how she used to be.

Except she was at this ball and it reminded her of him, she even knew that he was out on the floor dancing with all of the pretty girls. She missed him.

But it wasn't the masked man's fault. So she followed him and decided to say sorry. She met up with him on the balcony.

"I'm sorry sir." She said to him.

Arctic was so surprised that the girl had followed him the thought of placing the mask back on his face slipped from his thoughts. He really couldn't stop his body as he turned knowing this wouldn't end well. His eyes locked onto the mask girl as he felt a bead of sweat fall down his side. His mind went blank he just didn't know what to do. He couldn't move his hand to cover his face, or to even turn around. He was just blank.

Arctic. The man that she had been talking to all night, it had been Acrtic.

Anyone else would have been a mess of bowing and apologies.

Alex just ripped of her mask and wrapped her arms around hims so tightly that her muscled burned.

"Archie. Baby, I'm so sorry."

Arctic was so surprised. He wrapped his arms around her and held her close. "Its okay." he said softly in her ear as he felt his body just melt into hers. She fit so perfectly into his and it felt like he was one piece again. He didn't have time to enjoy it though. He felt himself be pulled back and away from her. He wasn't sure what was going on but soon he didn't have to think because he was unconscious.

The man looked down at the king then up at the girl. "Don't think that you'll be getting away." he said as he moved fast behind her and put the cloth over her mouth. "Now don't fight." he told her as he laughed quietly. The music chose that point to get louder as the "king" started to dance again.

Alex fought desperately against the man holding her. She was at the party as a bodyguard, and as such she was armed. She pulled a small dagger from below her skirt and stabbed the man in the leg, before she was knocked unconscious. Her last thought was that she was still happy to be reunited with Arctic, even if it meant that she would die here.

The man grunted when he felt her stab his leg. He just couldn't believe she'd gotten him. He threw her down on the ground, not being gentle at all. He sighed softly as he kicked the girl then waved down to his men who waved back. He picked up the king and threw him over. He looked down at the girl then blinked a bit before he smiled. "You could be some fun." he said as he picked her up and jumped down with her. He landed on his horse and looked over at his partner who had the prince on the back of his horse. "This was to easy." he thought as he kicked the horse in the side and they drove off.

They got to his hid out in less then ten minutes. He laughed as he tied the two up as he smiled he looked at the king. He couldn't help but to cute the king. It was deep or anything he just needed to. It felt so good to be able to doing it. He was glad to be getting his revenge for his family. They had relayed on slavery and now that he had gotten rid of it. Now he would pay. And if the stupid girl hadn't stabbed him she would just be laying on the balcony.

When Alex awoke she was bound and gagged, in an unknown room, the king was to her right - still unconscious. Taking stock of the room she saw that there were 3 henchmen like characters crowding around a fire on the opposite side of the room, not paying attention to the little sleeping girl. She closed her eyes again and pretended to sleep while grinding the rope of her bound hands against the ground.

She would get him out of this, she owed him that.

Arctic slowly started to wake up. He could feel the chains on his hands and then the fact that he was hanging. He opened his eyes to see Alex there with him. Now he knew something had happened but with Alex there he wouldn't be able to get out like he normal would free himself. He sighed softly knowing she could keep up but two people would make too much noise. He looked at her with half asleep eyes and the smiled as best he could. He wasn't gaged like she was and he wondered why. He looked at the men and instantly knew who they were. He actually was expecting this to happen so he would have to wait for to long before they were saved. They just had to wait. He looked back at her. "Sorry for getting you dragged into this." he whispered softly as he smiled again hoping she wasn't panicing like most people would in this situation.

"So the stupid kings awake it seems." the leader Kyle said as he stood up and walked over to the two. "You my king have ruined our business so we'll take you out of yours and put one of our men on the thrown so that slavery will be put back and we'll be among the rich again." he said as he glared down at him and Arctic didn't seem to worry about it. He just stared right back at him and waited for him to finish. When he guessed that he was done with his threat he spook.

"Well, actually, I wont be killed. You can't kill me. And if you do your life will be over as well and you know this. So why not just let me go and i'll ignore this little out burst." he said calmly almost in a mocking tone. He knew that they didn't want to kill him, or he would be dead already. So he wondered what they had in store for him.

"No, you'll suffer. Then you'll die at the hands of this girl." he said with an evil grin. "Just you wait." he said as his eyes grew wide. The man looked as insane as he was acting.

Alex saw all of the men. They were saying mean things and talking and things like that. She wasn't listening, she was still trying to weedle away at the ropes that bound her, and she felt that she was getting close. She wasn't really listening until she heard the man say that she would be the one to kill Arctic.

"I won't kill him. I love him~" She yelled, snapping the last of her bonds and standing to take on the men.

The man stood there and glared at the girl before letting his hand fall on his bandaged leg. "You missy are starting to be a lot more then your worth." he said in an angry voice that seethed with a chill that walked across Arctic's skin. He just couldn't believe how she could stand up like that to these kinds of men. Kyle glared more as he swiftly moved across the distance to do a left side kick with his foot that was aimed at her chest that was followed by a right punch to the side of her face.

Arctic took this opportunity to try to free himself. He felt down his right wrist till he felt the point of the paper cutter that he kept there just in case of situations like this. He pulled it up with his left hand and started to work slowly on the rope that bound him as he watched in horror. He wasn't sure how he would help but once he was free he would. He could hear the rope cracking as it was starting to break.

The blow to the chest was a love tap compared to what Alex was used to, but the hit to the side of her head disoriented her. She got the man back by clawing down the side of his face, drawing blood. "You'll have to go through me first, bitch." She yelled at the man, throwing his own words back at him.

She dropped down and swiped her leg around, knocking the man off his feet. Once he was on the floor Alex put the sharp stiletto of her heel down on the man's temple, bearing down, with all of her weight resting on her other foot, which wason the man's chest. Looking at the remaining attacker she said "let my King go."

Arctic really dislike fighting but killing someone was something he just couldn't stand. The look on the mans face was horrible. He got free and ran. He grabbed Alex's hand as he passed her. He lifted her up and on his shoulder figuring the heels wouldn't be easy to run in. She didn't weigh that much and he was glad for it as he jumped up and over a log that was in his way. he was glad that he had trained his body when Alex left him. Then again there wasn't much for the lonely man to do without her. He looked back at the cave before it was out of sight to see the two men next to Kyle's side wondering if he was still alive. Those two were just highered men and really didn't care about the two as they ran away.

He only stopped running when he felt the blood from the rope burn dripping down his arm. He looked up and saw some his guards so he let Alex on her feet and smiled down at her before he let himself into his guilty pleasure and kissed her softly with a smile. "Don't ever leave my side again Alex. And please don't ever show me that new you again. I like you just the way I found you." he said as he kissed her again then walked over to his men.

Alex stuck her tongue out at the King's back. She wasn't going to kill that guy, it was just a threat. She hated that her love was such a pussy. She yelled back to him "I'll do as I please!" Before taking her heels off and slinging them over her shoulder. She hitched a ride with another guard, heading back to the palace.

This was so not over.

Arctic smiled as he looked at her. She was so cute sometimes. The guards fussed over him for a little bit and took the rest of the rope off his his wrist and then let him have the horse and he jumped through the trees back to the kingdom. They didn't relax until the king was back on his thrown and bandaged. "Don't worry men. I knew you were coming to save me. Alex just helped me out a bit before you got there." he said as he nodded at them and they left.

Once the guards had gone that left just Alex and her King.

"I've missed you sir." She said, closing the distance between them with hurried steps. She stopped at the base of the steps that led up to his throne, "and I'm not as pigheaded as I was in my youth." She added, bounding up the steps and landing in the man's lap. She situated herself firmly in his lap so that he couldn't push her off and looked deeply into his eyes. "I love you." She said before placing her lips gently on his.

Arctic wasn't used to a girl just...okay he was. But not her. He had never expected to hear those words from this girl in his life. And it was great to hear. He wrapped his arms around her and smiled happily as he kissed her softly back. He ran his fingers softly through her hair as he tried to show her how much he loved her with his lips. He just couldn't stop kissing her.

Alex sighed, sinking into his arms like coming home. Deepening the kiss slowly she leaned into him further. Coming up for air only to say, "I missed you."
