It's my birthday in a couple of weeks, and I decided to spend my birthday money on a new game for my laptop. (I'm getting a little sick of Mahjong Titans.)

Anyway, I saw Sims Medieval in a shop the other day and I thought that "Oooh, that looks pretty." I mean, I love all the Sims games, but a medieval setting would be awesome. Reading reviews however, I'm not so convinced that it's worth buying.

Has anyone here played it? Or would I be better off just getting Sims 3? (I borrowed it once to play it, but didn't buy it.) Also: Is Sims 3 worth getting if I don't plan on getting downloadable content?

I haven't played it myself yet, but...Which one you should get depends on which you prefer: A life simulation game where you have a huge amount of control over character customization and house customization, or a game that leans more towards less customization and more RPG-type gameplay?

As for your other question: Yes, I think it's worth getting. I almost never download new content because it usually means extra money, and I think the game was worth every cent. :D But then I can play Sims 3 for hourrrrrrs. o.o I think it's the writer in me but I love character creation of any kind.

I'm seriously leaning toward the basic Sims 3 here.. So unless anyone can give me a crazy good review, I know what I"m getting.

My boyfriend has all the Sims games for PC and we play them together. Medieval is awesome! It's a little bit different in the sense that you can flip between an entire village of characters and do quests for them, instead of having your one character who has a job and hobbies... also they cut out several of the needs (all you have in Medieval is, hunger and energy, which makes it a lot easier to have happy citizens). The great thing is you can customize every person in your village, and you can pick and choose where you want the buildings to be, as well as the look (decorations) of your castle!

Sims 3 is great but it's just like normal Sims games without something fun added. I'd recommended Medieval.

I got SO much more into Medieval than Sims 3 or 2. The quests are varied and have the typical Sims-style humor to them, and there's lots of secrets and challenges to discover!

With normal sims, I think after a while I just get... I don't know, bored. Eat, sleep, toilet, make babies. x.x

Oh! Also, Sims 3 tweaked me a little because the market of downloads was no longer free. At least the Sims 2 market was great because you could get new hair, clothes, objects, etc. all the time and not have to pay for it. I thought it was a low blow for EA to take that away.

Somebody told me that the buildings aren't as customisable as other sims? A review actually said that it wasn't "really a sims game." And it was more RPG. I dunno - I like the original sims stuff, raising a family etc.

Aha! You stumbled upon my one major complaint about Sims Medieval. I am a builder at heart - I play around with the rest of the stuff for about a week and get bored, but I will build from dawn until dusk! <3 You can customize interiors of places, but you can't build the buildings themselves or change their shapes. That disappointed me a little.

I'm the same with building.. I once spent four hours on one building and exterior. Then half an hour designing the character I wanted to live there. Hmmm...

Exactly 8D I was infamous for building impossibilities - I loved the raise/lower terrain tool. It's great for making a bunch of "floating" buildings connected by bridges, or a HUGE castle with a moat!

I built a house with a second story bridge over a creek that ran through the house. That was awesome.

That's a brilliant idea! I'd totally steal it to play around with if my Sims 2 disc 1 wasn't all scratched up. :ninja: It was very upsetting when I tried to install it!

Sims two broke my computer. I really should have listened when the box told me it wasn't compatible with windows seven.

Deferentially Sims 3. I have been looking at Sims Medieval and keep talking myself out of it. The over all theme of the game does seem interesting, I love historical medieval times, and I've been a fan of Sim games since the beginning but I think there are a number of limitations.

If you do get Sims3 and sign up for their message board they do have an exchange that you can download all kinds of clothes, skins, hair and even wings that other users have uploading that you can download for free.

oh! Carzee, I should mention before I forget, that my friend got Sims Medieval Limited Edition for $20 by purchasing it directly from EA Games, and it came with all sorts of bonus material and shipped for free. Perhaps you could negotiate both?

$20 American is quite a bit more in NZ dollars (maybe like $60? I dunno the exchange rate). Otherwise I'd be very keen.

Yikes. I don't really follow exchange rates. Aw well, I'll see what I can do anyway.

Sims 3 by far. Sims medieval isn't that good as each level you have to make a new kingdom...really really takes from the fun.

Sims medieval is a complete let down. Its very glitchy and it lacks most of the best thing about the sims.

Most of the glitches have been eliminated with patches, but yes, I was a bit disappointed that there were so many in the game. If you do buy it, I highly recommend you enable the testing mode so you can reset NPCs if you need to. I can't have testing mode on unless I need it though, because otherwise I'm too tempted to drag my Sim's happiness up again. :ninja: It makes it really easy to cheat.
