Okay, Lurkers! I'm curious to hear about the various ways that you dudes and dudettes find new music to listen to.

Do you search the web for artists similar to ____?
Do you just browse youtube?
Do you have people you ask for recommendations?
Do you follow what's on tv/radio?
Do you just find things on accident?
Do you rely on a service such as Pandora or Last.fm?
Do you look for lists of bands in specific genres?

I think I'm the most guilty of the last one. I'll find a list of bands in a genre and just start going through them, one by one. I've found some gems that way!
I also tried Pandora for a while but they were really off the ball with most of their suggestions. The only thing it really did was cement my love of Faith No More. Last.fm gets credit for Danger Danger though.

I haven't had found many new music to listen too, but I usually branch off videos youtube, and use pandora.
There are times where I find things on accident or things on the radio.
Usually when I find something on the radio, I don't go home and look up the lyrics or re-listen to it, cause I know I'll hear it again when I'm in the car.
Recommendations, I don't get too many of those, many people like to keep their favorite bands/singers to themselves now, not wanting to risk of the artist raising to fame and being played over and over on the radio.
>.<

I haven't met anyone who's been protective over their musical tastes in that way. From my experience, people are more than happy to share the things that they enjoy. I know I'm definitely like that.

Sometimes I find music by accidents, I also have people that I share and talk about music with. But mostly I find it cause I read a lot of blogs and magazines and hear about music that way. I listen to radio sometimes too but only if there's a good show.
Lately I have been finding music by browsing spotify (a music streamer) a lot. It's definetly useful while looking for music. :)

People show them to me. I remember I was talking to my ex-boyfriend a few years ago was he was all like "here, listen to this" (big metal fan, he is), and that's how I discovered Breaking Benjamin. But mostly, I like to listen to what I enjoy and not what other people listen to... Specially because almost everyone I know is a metalhead, and if there is a genre I don't handle well, is metal. Also the people I hang with detest rap, and I love it. That's why we hang together. Balance. XD

Here we go. I have a couple friends that have similar tastes to me in some areas, yet have good taste. I really learn about a couple unknown bands from them. Outside from that, Last.FM works wonders and a half sometimes, Pandora occasionally... but my secret weapon?

<.<
>.>

4chan's /mu/ sharethreads. The rest of the place is a craphole, but they occasionally have glorious musical gold in there!

Occasionally I sit on a radio site that plays music from a single genre and note the ones I like. Like Grooveshark, Pandora, or Satellite radio.
A lot I get from friends. A friend JUST introduced me to Unleash the Archers. And man am I upset for not hearing them before. Metal gold. I love them already.

I believe I've heard them before, I'll have to double check.

Got any others you found?

Agreed! I saw them in Albany last year. Oh man I loved ever bit of it. Even the splitting headache after windmilling for so long. XD I did have a little buffer circle around me from the windmilling. So it was all good.

One of the best concerts I've ever been to but then again, I've never been to a bad one.

I didn't really care for the opening acts too much, but other than that it was a very awesome concert.

I've been lucky to have decent opening acts for nearly every show I've been to.

Radio, sadly, is not where I find new music. iTunes, Last.fm, and even those free songs from Starbucks get my attention, although I still read music reviews to keep up with what's new...

I usually drift around youtube for suggestions or use the reliable last.fm for "similar artists"

Found alot of good metal bands that way. Also helped me when i had an obsession over "enya" style music :p

Haha Enya came on while I was at work the other day and all I could think about was how much I wanted to stuff my ears with panties so I wouldn't have to hear it

So far, I've found one band through last.fm

last.fm --> similar artists
This is hands down the best way to discover new artists. ;3

I also find new artists from top10 lists, blogs, uk top40, itunes storefront and music torrent sites.

Half of the time, it just happens. I guess some could be browsing Youtube. But for the most part it's kind of just whateve I hear and like the I go and find.

I tend to stick to the songs I know until someone like my friend or a relative goes "Hey, have you heard this song?" Unfortunately, this method gets me listening to the worst songs ever sometimes.
