A thread to discuss owls. Barn owls, spotted owls, great horned owls, discuss them all here.

As you can tell by my avatar, I am not a menewshian of means, but I will send the thousandth poster (if it gets that high. If this thread goes bottom up, the last/the first/my favourite poster) will receive owl related ASCII art and a poem, probably by me.

Let's do this!

and just to be sure

I love owls!
I have an owl purse, an owl wallet, an owl mirror, an owl keychain, and I bunch of other miscellaneous owl-related items<3
I wish they could be domesticated safely, but I know they're animals of nature.

NZ has two native owls and thankfully, no introduced one. The most famous is called the Morepork. It's call is just like that "Morepork" which is why it has its name. It is lovely to lie in bed if you live by the bush (rain forest) and hear it at night. :)

I also live in the wilderness and many a night they can be heard nearby. And on summer evenings out on the porch, sometimes the come to a nearby branch and stare at us.

When I read this thread this picture came to mind:

I remember this show somewhat, and it's the only owl that comes to my mind this morning. :)

When I was up north there was an owl on the side of the road that had been hit by a car. I made my mom stop and pick it up to take it to animal control. I wrapped him in four towels and put one over his head and he could still get his talons through the towels. It seemed like it had a broken wing so I'm pretty sure they probably just put him to sleep which is sad.

Birds of prey in general are amazing animals.

Oh I love Owls. In 6th grade I did a research project on the Burrowing Owl, I've been in love ever since.I mean isn't is adorable! The poor dears may be a 'least concern' on the endangered list, but they're still loosing their homes. They're the most common owl-road-kill due to the fact they spend a lot of their time on the ground (thus 'burrowing' owl).

I haven't seen an owl in a while.

The most memorable one for me is the Burrowing Owl. ^ They're cute!
The Snowy Owl is also another favorite. I like their furry feet and serious faces.

And then there's this one:

Great horned owls live all around my town. You can hear then at night and early morning. Never seen one, though.
