I'm starting this post to get some feed back on what others think of the new starwars mmorpg, you can post anything you want aslong as you can relate it to The Old Republic.

It's not going to be a WoW killer, but it's going to be great. If anything is going to kill WoW, which I don't think will happen, it's going to be D3.

It won't be a WoW killer.
It will happen similar to Rift.
It will drag some people away from WoW, but the vast majority won't leave WoW for it.
Most people are too commited to WoW to drop it and start playing a new game.
As for D3, I dunno if it will be either. That real money auction house they announced is a terrible idea to be honest. Terrible fomr our perspective that is. From Bliz's it's great.

Blizzard is the only conceivable WoW killer. A competing franchise isn't going to demolish their userbase, so the only way that it will happen is if Blizzard finds a way to drive them off.
----------
Even if an outside franchise could do it, it wouldn't be a licensed one.

I think of it as the Star Wars version of WoW.
I seriously wonder if I should play it cause I don't wanna pay to play and end up addicted.... some people have lives and marriages ruined cause of WoW...

The notion that ToR can even hold a candle to WoW is absolutely ridiculous. I respect that fact that Bioware is putting so much effort into making a game as expansive as WoW, and I'll even put aside my opinion that Bioware is making a huge mistake by not releasing a proper sequel to KotorII, but I seriously believe that this game will underperform on everyone's expectations if they continue to refer to it as a WoW killer.
WoW is successful due in part to it's addictive nature and expansive world, and the already huge community it has had for the longest time. But I don't think that anyone in their right mind, in the middle or apex of their WoW addiction would leave for something that would give a similar experience unless they were already a huge fan of Star Wars. Seriously, who is this catered to?
Sorry if I seem extremely worked up. Terms like "Wow Killer" just bring up a very terrible and opinionated part of me.

Meh, I avoid any game like this that slaps a stiff monthly fee on their services. This is probably because I played MUDs before they evolved into MMORPGs, and MUDs cost a total of zero dollars to play. Charging $12-15/month for the service? You've got to be kidding me. I'll take my $12-15 and instead spend it on a new or used single-player RPG that I can get hundreds of hours out of with no strings attached, thank you. Drop it to $5/month and I'd consider it, and then only if they actually have Mac support.

I'm not big into MMOs myself but it looks like it could be interesting. I like KOTOR though I never finished it and this seems to be as close to that as any other game. I might give it a try but probably not because I'm not sure I'll be willing to spend money on the subscription.

Nothing's a true WoW killer, I went to Rift for a while and came crawling back, that's what I personally think is going to happen to any of these new games--some people will go play it and get bored with it--then come back to WoW..and there's over million of players so killing WoW is next to impossible..

I remember when everyone thought rift was a wow killer, its alot of overhyped stuff beta ruins stuff imo rift got boring fast and with the swtor the pvp is about the same capture points you have your basic team of
-tank
-healer
-ranged dps
-stealth dmg or melee burst
-caster dps
so i dont see it being a wow killer but its worth the buy.
i for one am going to buy me a copy to test it out

WoW is going to be it sown killer. Blizzard's going to want Titan to takeover and they've proven that they make so much money off of celestial steeds and pets andother things like that, that I see them going in that direction later.
I have a beta for star wars. I'll let you know :P
btw rift was and is still a very cool game. UI wise, I feel they swept just about anyone. every game has something cool honestly. aion... played it for a bit. flight was fun and I thought the abyss was a cool idea and it was but leveling.. too grindy. I didn't make it past 38. ff14...beautiful world but incomplete game. they should have just pushed back the release date.

I feel you on the wow sucide lol, but rift was interesting the classes and races worked very well i was a cleric that weaken'd my targets magic resisitence and made them take insane dmg from a ranged caster like a ele or warlock so i have to always be teamed with a mage to do my top notch dmg.
but being a mmo addict ive played my share of games rift i am thinking of going back to but it was so similar to Everquest/Wow that i had to reactivate my eq2 account after then got my wow account back shortly after that.
i mostlikly will join rift again comin in the next few months.

To be honest, I started wow completely loving it because I had the time to devote to it. Now I love it for a very different reason, it doesn't take as much time. Guess it's one of those getting older things but I think that's truthfully what I look for in games these days. Something that doesn't take blocks and blocks of time devoted to progression. I don't have that time anymore. Partly why I don't think wow will ever truly die. It's an easy game for just about anyone to pick up and play and its flexible enough that people like me, that don't have much free game time, can be happy and those that want to be more than casual still have hard modes to do.
Not sure what I'll be playing next. maybe stick with wow or back to rift. I did like rift.

I should do that but I haven't. I just did BT and such in TBC and stopped. But now that thunder fury isn't class specific, I've been running MC trying to get it for my mage. No luck with bindings though :( But I do get ingots a lot and those sell for quite a bit on my server.

Have to say, the beta isn't living up to my expectations at the moment. :(
graphically at default settings the game is very pixellaed. And maxing everything out, it still doesn't look how I've been imagining it would.
As always, Bioware's done a great job with voice acting
Customization for the human faces is good but lacking in all others. Also body type customization is eh.. not horrible but not good either.
The way that the game is set-up.. it's really not feeling like an MMORPG... it feels like a single player game even though there's plenty of servers and plenty of people. It also seems like for now they're running stress tests on their servers to see what they can handle before things go crazy.

My boyfriend was lucky enough to get in on the beta testing of TOR and he spent the better part of three days playing. He played as a jedi first (and unfortunately the system crashed, again it is a beta) and then as a bounty hunter. Being an ex-WOW player (I had to cut myself off from the addiction) and watching TOR I didn't really see all that much to compare. While there certainly applications of WOW in TOR (and there has to be because they are the same structure) I find that I liked TOR better because it was more singled down to a certain motif. It was true to the interactions and emotions of the Star Wars movie and I found myself thinking "and they're relating this to WOW how?" All in all I really wish TOR would come out for Macs so I could play with him!
