I was wondering if there were any other entomology nerds here on Menewsha.

I'm not studying it in school or anything, but I really LOVE entomology. I love to look at photos of insects online and I try to look out for them around here. Unfortunately, there aren't many cool insects in my area...not that i've seen at least. (Well, except for cicadas!)

I love beetles especially. I find horned beetles to be extremely beautiful. I have a lot of favorites but I think the chalcosoma atlas would be at the top of my list.

I have some cool preserved beetle (plus one cicada) necklaces. I wear at least 2 at a time every day. I'm a huge nerd.

SO, anyone else a bug fan? Is anyone a bug hater? If so, why?

If you like bugs (and of course I'm just using bug as a general term here), what are your favorites? Do you own any specimens?

I'm not a huge fan of bugs. I do love lady bugs and butterflies. ^.^
I love during the Home and Garden Show they have a butterfly exhibit, where you get to go into an enclosed room, with millions of butterflies fluttering around. Last year I had one land on my jeans and it just hung out as I walked around. The thing was gorgeous oranges and half the size of my hand ^.^

I raise Dubia roaches and crickets if that counts for anything. They're feeders though, not really pets. ^^;

I have a small fascination with bugs... But I don't by any means like them. In fact, if I see a bug crawling around, I'd most likely squish it. Dx [And if I haven't seen one before, get as close as I dare to examine it before it gets the tissue treatment!]

I know people say they're small and harmless... But I think the smaller things are the more dangerous they tend to be. Viruses anybody?

Though, of course... I could care less about the common one I grew up with.. Misquotes and flies and whatnot.

Hmm... I wouldn't mind learning about some of the cool evolutionary features that some bugs have. That stuff I find interesting. [Though, that's with any species. x3]

Codette: That sounds amazing!

Mystic: What do you feed them to?

Repo: THE TISSUE TREATMENT!?! Ah, so rude! I have to admit though, I used to be the same way. But that fear turned into fascination. I'm still getting over the fear actually. I mean, I'll see a cool bug , and though I want to examine it, I'll be a bit nervous at first.

And not all bugs are small and harmless, obviously. There are tons of poisonous insects out there, and some that just give really painful bites or stings. So it is perfectly fine to be a little cautious. But bugs are very, very beneficial to all of us. Without them, we might not even exist! I know that sounds a little farfetched , but it really isn't when you think of all the things bugs have done for us.

Bug. . . Necklaces? o:

I don't really like bugs. I tend to squeal and avoid them, or whinge until someone removes it for me. As a child I used to love examining bugs, or making little grass homes in tubs and collecting bugs like woodlice and ladybirds. . . Funny how stuff like that changes. Dx

Krokodil: I have five bearded dragons that eat them. ^^; I'd be broke if it wasn't for the fact that the roaches reproduce nicely and keep a good supply of free food for them.

Mystic : That's great! I don't know much about reptiles, I like to look at them though. They always have really cool skin textures and colors.

And here they are :

That stag beetle is pretty. They creep me out a bit though. ^^; I really want to raise, I think they were called lace wing roaches. They were a really pretty green roach. I just loved the way they looked and wanted some as pets. Someone was selling them at the last reptile expo I was at. I just didn't have a habitat up for them so I didn't buy any.

I have a great affinity with moths in particular, but insects of all manner have never been found creepy to me. With one exception...Earwigs. Cannot stand earwigs.

I have some of those necklaces and bracelets with the bugs inside which i loved as a teen. As i became more exposed to the 'animal trade' though, i've stopped wearing them. During my work at a zoo i volunteer for, where things like that often make up displays of 'how we use animals' etc, i've never thought of them in the same way. Some of them are taken straight from the wild, and others are actually farmed specifically for the purpose of human use. I just find it incredibly pointless and wouldn't want to advocate that.
But yes, bugs are super!

Bugs and insects are the grossiest things on this planet, and frankly should be destroyed right now. i would love to be the head of that project. But, i am aware that some bugs to serve a purpose in various ecosystems. Like spiders and what not. But i still hate them. I have a reoccurring night mare that bugs crawl on me when i am asleep. It probably actually happens now that i think about it...

I myself, actually quite like bugs.
As long as they are either not lethal, or not lethal until provoked then i love them XD
I play with little spiders and the such when i see them...
My favorite insects by far are Dragon Flies.
More specifically petal-tail dragonflies.
They are very large dragonflies, with wing spans of 160 mm i think, whose home is in Queensland Australia if i'm not mistaken.
So, no. You are the only entomology nerd on menewsha lol
