Okay, I've seen the previews a couple of times, and I was wondering if anyone else around here was planning on going out to see it this weekend. Personally, I'm interested mostly because A) I wanna know how they're going to try to transfer a board game to the big screen and B) I can't help but be interested in it since I took one look at it and said that it was Transformers with the Autobots replaced by the Navy.
And it has Liam Neeson in it.
Anyway, just wanted to see what others thought about it.

I wanna see it! Not sure I'll watch it anytime soon. I think I'm watching... MiB3 this weekend. Maybe next weekend I'll hit Battleship up. :3

No desire to see it.
Was going to with the hopes that someone would say 'You sank my battleship' but according to my sister no one does, so not going to.
If you want to see a board game transfered to a good movie, watch 'Clue'. It not only has Tim Curry starring in it, it also has all the lovely catch-phrases we're used to with the game. 'Mrs. Peacock in the kitchen with the Butcher Knife' for example. It's hilarious, even for being made in 1985.

I want to see it. When I heard Battleship was being made into a movie, my first thoughts were that it was going to be some kind of World War I or II (maybe III) navel battle thing. Instead we get giant robots!:D Which... could be a good or bad thing depending on how well it's done.
Also, seconding Codette. Clue is a good movie. If you ever want to see another board-game based movie, you should consider it.
And apparently there might be other board games made into movies: ‘Risk’ Board Game Movie Being Scripted By ‘Shield’ Writer | Screen Rant

I agree with what Codette said, Clue is an amazing movie. I have watched is so many times and I can still watch it until this day over and over again.
I had no intention of seeing this movie, it just looks really stupid. And even if it wasn't based on a game (I say based loosely because there really was no story or anything for them to use, they just took the name) it just isn't the type of movie I'd ever see period. Plus, my friend says that the phrase "You sank my battleship" isn't used so that's an automatic fail.

Is this movie actually based off the game? I just thought it was just about a battleship - like a legit ship not a boardgame. So I decided to google it and, apparently, it is off the pen and paper game. O_o Never would have guessed that.

But holy crap, it has some seriously low reviews and ratings. I'd still like to watch it and believe it's not based off the boardgame. Liam Neeson's usually a great actor so I'm finding it hard that he would be in a crappy film. :\

Oh I agree with you guys about Clue. It was an awesome movie, and based off of one of my favorite board games.
As for Battleship, yes it is "based" on the board game, and no, they do not utter the infamous line. However, Wavi is partially right since the point of most of the movie is to get the Navy onto the relic battleship, Missouri.
And it has low reviews because come on, it's a summer blockbuster! It's rare that they get good reviews from critics. I don't particularly care what critics say because I have my own opinion. As it is, I really enjoyed the movie. It's corny, the star is the special effects - who admittedly, is the best actor even though Liam Neeson does a good job -, and it's totally riding on Transformers' coat tails. But most importantly to me, it's fun. It took me away from myself for two hours of non-repentant gratification. And the way the work in the big reference to the game reeks of Movie Magic BS - although, I have no idea if Navy vessels could or could not do what they did so perhaps I'm wrong -, but I still thought it was a clever idea to actually drop in the details about Tsunami buoys. To me, the movie doesn't even feel like it's taking itself seriously, so why should I?
Plus, as someone attracted to speaking voices, Taylor Kitsch's makes me happy.
I would suggest you try it out Wavi because you might like it.

Eh, I think The Avengers is the Summer blockbuster of the ear. Battleship probably shouldn't have even tried to open anywhere near that movie. But I had no idea it was based off of a pen and paper game, didn't know there even was a pen and paper game about that. But another fault to the movie, people will automatically think about the Battleship board game first and compare it to that.
I dunno...maybe I'm biased since it's not my genre of movies but it just seems like a bomb (pun intended) all the way around.

Hey, I didn't say it was THE summer blockbuster, but that it was one. I tend to think of that as a genre of movies, the action movies that attempt to rule the summer.
But I don't disagree, Avengers is THE blockbuster, and honestly, any movie opening in May and probably early June was screwed. I could see Avengers being in theaters well into June because of the popularity of it. So really, Battleship probably isn't the only movie that's going to be feeling the loss.
Hey, if it's not your taste, it's not your taste. *shrugs* And I can't think of any one who would compare the movie to the game unfavorably though - the game itself doesn't actually have a set story to it like Clue did. The movie is more of an inspired by/Hasbro wants to make money off the franchise sort of based on.

I shall definitely watch it! It just might be wayyyy later than most. The theater near me plays movies a month after they come out -- which is awesome since a ticket is only $3. :3 So if and when it comes to said theater, I will see Battleship and probably still enjoy it because the trailers look sick.
And hells yes! Avengers all the way into June would be great. If I had the money and time, I would watch it once a week in theaters until it left theaters. :D

I would think it's at least worth $3 bucks just to check it out. That's how much you'll end up paying to rent it in a movie store three months from now at any rate. >.> Yay for dollar theaters!
