Onto the matter at hand, changing octaves is much easier on the saxophone than the flute. Air temperature and speed stay exactly the same. All you need to do is press the little octave key. It's located right above the little peg you rest your left thumb on. Just slide your thumb up and viola! You're an octave higher.

OMG! I started learning sax just for the sake of being in jazz and playing jazz :D I wished my teacher let flutists into jazz lol a great amount of flutists started sax just for jazz lol
Anyways, thank you very much, I'm currently the most advanced in my learning group :) I'm beginning to learn the higher third octave C, D, E ^^ its only been two weeks and I'm a lean, mean, jazz playing machine xD
