It was another beautiful morning and the princess was already up. First thing after she wakes up and gets help dressing by her servent. She heads out side to the beloved garden that she grew since she was a child. Katrina loves spending time in the garden and taking care of it. It was better than her lessons but of course it was something she had to do before the day she gets married. A day she didn't want to get married to a stranger that she arrange with since the day she was born. It wasn't a choice but something that all heirs in her family had. When a child is born she or he was already set to be married to another kingdom.

But there was only one person she want to get married. Of course that probbly would ever happen. It was a love that couldn't be reach no matter how much she wanted. Katrina shakes her head abit as she picks up a wate pail and heads over starting to water some red roses in one side. She had all different kind of flowers from roses, to lillies and all many different kind. Today she was wearing a red dress that matches perfectly with the roses she was watering.

Thalmas sat still on his perch, his shoulders tense and his wings spread wide. Of course, during day he was a statue, and couldn't move, but he could listen, and see, and feel. But his curse is what made his nature painful for him. He had to protect the royal daughter of his masters, Katrina. And she often walked the garden and took care of them, when she had time, in the late evenings, she would come and see him, because he would finally be able to speak back to her, and tell her what he thought, and be her friend, since that was what she needed.

But because of all his duties, because of what his job was, he could only show that he cared about her only as a friend, but not that he really wanted to be able to trace the line of her jaw, or kiss her forehead and hold and comfort her when she was upset. It was his life, his curse, and he figured that dealing with that curse would be easier than being executed and leaving her alone in the world.

But through these thoughts he simply stared out until her saw her, in her red dress. He liked the colour red on her, how it made her skin glow and the gold of her hair seem to shimmer more.

Internally smiling, her made his aura welcoming to her, so she knew she could come sit at his pedestal and speak to him when she wished to.

"Lady Katrina!" a servent runs up to the princess. Katrina turns around looking at the young servent "Yes?" says. "Your father request your presents in the throne room m'lady.." bowing infront of her as the servent spoke. "Really now?" sighs. She was hoping to speak to Thalmas in abit of course knowing he wouldn't be able to speak to her during the day. Katrina knew that he could listen so she guess it would have to wait until later or at lease when it was night. When he could take his human form. Katrina sighs looking up at Thalmas's statue form was on the balcony.

"Fairly well..tell my father I'll be there shortly" the princess says looking back over at her servent. The servent bows and heads off to deliever the marriage. She knew it was the day she would met the person who she was choose to marry. Katrina sets down the water pail and fixes her hair back. Katrina decides the meeting could wait until she washes up alittle. More or less it would give her time to speak for abit.

Katrina heads inside and goes up to her room. She heads onto her balcony and walks over to the pedestal and sat down. She looks up at the statue. "Hey Thalmas..its like today is the day I get to met him. But I don't want to..so I'm trying my best to avoid going to the meeting as much as possible." looking down. "I don't know him...why should I get married to a stranger I don't know. It just isn't fair." looking up at him. "I guess I can hear your thoughts about this later when it is night. I just wish you was human now..you are my best friend in the world."

Thalmas watched the scene silently. He watched as she took her time to clean up and come up to talk to him. When she sat down, he made his aura warm, comforting. As she spoke about the man he internally frowned. He didn't like how she had to marry someone she didn't really care for, but it was not his place to put his view into, so he simply did as usual and comforted her with his aura.

Listening to the rest he did his best to comfort non-verbally, and than smiled internally when she said he was her best friend, before withdrawing his aura, so she knew she had to go to the meeting. His way of saying business is business and it had to get done. Weather it was now, or later.

Katrina felt Thalmas's aura reaching out to her. It was relaxing and comfortable. He was truely her very best friend to her and always kept her from harm. Even when she was little, she always had a adventure spirit that usual for her into trouble. She looks out at gates she only had been outside of them maybe once or twice. Both times the gargoyle prince took her out at night since it was the only time he could.

The princess stayed there alittle bit longer until Thalmas's aura left her. She knew what he was saying. Katrina looks up at him "Guess you are right...better get this over with. I will see you tonight." smiles. She reaches out and touches the gargoyle's claw hand with a gentle touch. He was to high for to give him a kiss on the cheek. She turn around and walks away leaving the balcony and her room before heading to the throne room.

Thalmas sat one his perch throughout the day, until the last rays of the sun began to dim, and slowly, he began moving. Soft, golden hair fell down his back, and his skin fair and flawless. Gargoyles were warriors, but never bhad one scar, nothing of imperfection in their appearance. the only time they did was during the day, when one could see the true nature of the curse.

Standing and stretching, his black velvety wings flapping slightly before he paced, waiting for the princess.
he was going to do his usual, speak with her a while, maybe let her out of the palace gates to explore for a while, and then lay in bed with her until she fell asleep, as was habit since she was a small child.

Brushing his hair bac out of his amber eyes, he went to sit on the railing of the princess's balcony, legs dangling hundreds of feet off the ground, as he watched the moon. All seemed well, nothing seemed out of place at all around the over sized palace.

Katrina returns to her room knowing it was cool tonight so she grabs her cloak and puts it on. She heads outside and smiles seeing Thalmas sitting there on the railing. After the day she had she could spend time with a man she was more used to.

"Thalmas.." saying softly to herself. She walks over and leaning against the rail "Hiya..can we go outside of the gates for awhile? I want to be away from the castle for abit."says. She sounded like she had one of those days she didn't like.

Especially after what her father had told her at dinner with the other royal family and man she was choose to marry.

Thalmas looked over his shoulder at her and shrugged. "Maybe... It's a bit too still in the town than is comfortable to me..." he said, looking over to the houses, which not a hint of light came out of at all... It was very suspicious, being that even the tavern was usually bustling this late in the evening and there was just nothing there either.

But shrugging, he pulled the princess into his arms and pushed off the railing, letting them drop a good 50 feet before opening his wings, gliding down to the ground, landing gently outside the gates without even a thump, setting the princess down on her feet. "Stay close..." he said, not in a way of warning there was danger, just because he knew she was very often a flight risk, and she wasn't the one who paid for the numerous times she'd tried to flee the castle when Thalmas was busy.

Katrina knew of the risk as this was a criticial time, but she wanted to be out the castle. And of course she will have Thalmas there with her. The princess stares at him waiting for him to make up his mind. It didn't take long as she felt Thalmas picking her up in his strong arms and takes her across the gates.

No matter how many times her father tells her not to go on the other side she always did. Weither if it was Thalmas taking her or her finding a way out. Getting put to her feet she fixes her cloak, tucking her hair into the hood as she puts it on. "Thanks..I just needed some time to think about this." looking down as she messes with her cloak. "My father has decide to push the wedding between me and the Narina Prince in a month." She stays close to her protector "And I don't really like this prince...he is so..snobby," looking up and looks around "He isn't anything like you." looking over at Thalmas

Thalmas looked over at her as she adjusted her cloak and skirts than he rested a hand on his sword at his hip, and offered her his arm. He was usually silent at first, but after a while, he began to loosen up. Especially when she began to speak to him. When he heard about the wedding being in a month, his brow furrowed, but he shrugged, frowning and looking over at her when she said the last few words.

"Princess... Not everyone has freedom to choose their future. Neither you, nor I. If the wedding is in a month, so be it. The child acts as he does because he is still maturing. I understand your strife, princess, but you must realize something. You mother and father never chose their life together, and they love each other. you never realize how much you love someone until you really get close to them. Give him a chance. He may just be the one you want." He said. He knew she would get frustrated with how emotionless he was being that night. But she needed to understand now hat she was royalty with responsibilities to her kingdom. And she was going to have to grow up and deal with that fact.

Turninghe walked towards the forests. Sheltering themselves from the view of castle guards around the gates was usually a wise idea, especially since Thalmas would get severely punished for bringing her outside the palace walls.

"Princess, I must ask you to think like a queen. once you are married to this man, my servitude to you is no longer. i am strictly to your palace, not his and yours. You will be given a different protector from his palace. I was only here to make sure you didn't die before you wed..." he said, knowing the words would be painfully blunt to her, but her needed to break their connection, even if he had to be cold and harsh, like his father was.

Sitting down deep in the forest on a log, he looked at the princess, his amber eyes glowing in the dark night, showing his beastly nature. He was the monster watching her night and day. His family's blood oath the only thing between her and his family's blade.

The princess takes his arm that he offered and follows him toward the forest which they go mostly. He was silent tonight not much like most nights. She figures it was the start of the draw back. Once she is married she would move to the castle to start her new live with new servents and new area.

She brushes back some of her hair that had escape from her hood. His words was painful but yet so true. Katrina looks out across the small pond that was near by. It felt hard to admit it to herself. But her duties as a princess must come first for anything else. Katrina walks over to the small pond and bents down next to the water. "I know what you say is true. I must except the faith that I was born to." says softly. As it was already start of her breaking their connection. "But must say I will miss this place." staring at herself in the reflexation in the water.

After a while it would be time for her to return to the castle for the night. It was mostly her childess way that gets Thalmas in trouble for bringing her outside of the castle walls. Only because she just wanted a moment of freedom before the faiths pull her back her royal duties. Since tomarrow night was the royal engagement ball between the princess and prince of the two kingdom which will be allies soon.

Thalmas watched her silently, letting her do and say as she pleased for a time, until it was safely midnight, before he stood and stretched. "Time to go back to the palace. You need your rest." he said, his wings stretching as he got ready to go, walking oveer to the princess and picking her up again, lifting off the ground with one powerful stroke of his wings and flying over the town and castle walls to her room, setting her down onto safe, solid ground and going over to her bed to tuck her in.

Katrina never knew how late it was. Thalmas always knew the time better at night anyway more than she did. She leans close on the way back to the palace in Thalmas's arms. She wonder of the prince would hold her like Thalmas does. Of course the prince was handsome like Thalmas and he surely did look strong like Thalmas. So many things still wonder thru her mind she wasn't sure if she would be abe to sleep

The princess relaxes when Thalmas tucks her in. She nibbles her lip abit looking at Thalmas maybe alittle bit to much. Katrina turns away as she couldn't help it she wanted to burn Thalmas image deep into her memory. "Thalmas..I'm sorry that I am so much trouble to you. I mean I feel guilt everytime you get into trouble for what I want." looking up at him with her light blue eyes. "But..do you think I will make a good queen?" saying softly. That was one of her major worries.

Thalmas tucked her in than lay down beside her, not too close, but close enough to give her comfort, and he looked at the ceiling as she spoke to him, a slight twitch of his lips revealing what may have been a smile. "Princess, It's my job to protect you and to take care of you when your family cannot. So please, do not apologize." he said, and sighed, turning to look into her eyes, letting his hand stroke her hair comfortingly. "Of course. You'll make an amazing queen. What I'm more worried about is if your prince will make a good k..." he was cut off by the sound of banging and swords clanking outside, smelling something odd, he got up and looked outside to see the town burning down to ashes, and slowly screams of agony, pain, and terror reached his ears, and he instinctively barred the doors, going over to the balcony again to look for a flag, or anything to give away who it was, and when he found the blck flag with the symbol... he simply snarled, moving with inhuman speed to get very few things the princess would need before picking her up.

"We have to leave. We're under attack..." he said, deciding not to tell her by whom... It was clear that a certain kingdom was not ready for peace with the princess's....

A banging came from the door of her rooms and he swifting ran for the balcony, holding the princess firmly in his arms and jumping, letting them fall until he was at a good speed, than opening his wings and giving two powerful strokes they were flying safely above the chaos below them, but the scent of burning flesh and huts still wafted up at them as Thalmas flew. And it was that way until at least an hour later, when he landed near a lake, bordered entirely by thick forests and mountains.

With the princess still in his arms, he walked over to what seemed to be nothing but a drop off of a large hill, but once her moved aside moss, a door became visible, and there was a slot in the center of it that fit perfectly with the royal amulet around Thalmas' neck, and without so much as a thought he fit it into the slot, and the doors moved aside, revealling a large refuge tht was carved out of a cave. "This is the area I was told to come to shouldthe palace ever be attcked.: he said simply, setting her on her feet inside the cave and going over to a few torches, snapping his fingers and they all lit instantly. "I didn't give you time for explanation, but there is time enough for that later. For now, rest... Because of this crisis, I don't believe I will turn back at dawn... But just in case, don't leave this cave." he said, his voice held a sence of severity and authority for the moment as he set up a small place for her to sleep with just two blanket he managed to fit into her largest bag.

It would surprise the Princess how much he'd actually managed to get, but then again, thalmas had a lot of magic on his side, and she had only seen the beginning of it.

[[ going to bed. sorry for crap-ups in spelling but it's one of those times when I just couldn't sleep and I wanted to give a reply real quick. =) ]]

Katrina looking up at him when he lays down next to her. Staring up into Thalmas's eyes and his hand stroking her hair. It was very calming it was always helpful in putting her to sleep. The princess was just about to fall asleep before all the noise of fighting and people scream made her wide awake. Katrina watches Thalmas getting up to see what was going on. It was terrificing about what was going on. Sitting up she could see the red glow from the town and the smoke.

She wanted to know who was attacking but Thalmas wasn't ready to tell her that. As she gets picked up and hearing bangin outside her room. They was in the castle! What about her parents!? Fear rushes thru her body. But it seem her safely had to come first. Before she could say anything about them they was already out of the castle.

Katrina holds onto Thalmas as they take to the air. She heard the screams of women and children it bought tears to the princess's eyes. Clearly this was a symbol of war and who ever wasn't ready for peace with her. Once they arrived to the cave. She was far to tired and upset to say anything. And mostly she didn't know the faith of her parents..weither if they was alive or not. She looks around the cave once she was place on her feet. Watching torches light up as she couldn't stop her body from shaking. Katrina looking over at Thalmas not sure what was going to happen next. "A...alright..." says. She moves over to where he was making her bed for her.

She couldn't think right now on how any he had managed to get. Right now sleep was taking over fast and she lays down once after he finishes setting it up. Once she lays down she fell fast asleep.

Thalmas watched her fell asleep, frowning t how exhausted she was before he went to the opening of the cave to look toward the palace. The tiny sliver of smoke was still visible to him, but he didn't say anything, in fact, her just stood there as day began to come, but unlike usual, he didn't turn to stone, not yet. He wouldn't turn back into a statue until she was safe.

Turning, her went out just a little ways to go find dry wood, and hunt and collect a few things he could find in what was becoming the cold autumn season, and than went back to the cave where he made a fire, big enough to keep her warm, but small enough to be put out easily if there was an emergency.

sitting down, he laid out some berries, a few nuts, and he began to clean a rabbit he'd hunted, and he cooked it. He knew she'd probably be upset about the fact that it was rabbit, but at the moment, it was eat it or starve.

Katrina would sleep for hours before finally waking up. She rolls over onto her back being abit sore. It wasn't something she was used to. What she was laying on wasn't comfortable than her bed. But it was better being here than there after what happen last night. Turning her head she expected to see Thalmas in his statue form and he wasn't. The princess turns slightly and sits up.

"Any sign of mother and father?" was the first thing she said. As the worry was still pagueing her mind. And the second thought was her people..so many died that didn't need to last night. She felt her stomach growl and looking over toward what he was cooking. "What happen last night? Why was the kingdom under attack? Who would have done this?" begans to ask Thalmas. Since she knew Thalmas saw something about who did the raid.

Thalmas shook his head to her first question, offering her a few nuts and berries, trying to get his own thoughts in line before he told her anything... But that could take a while. Even he was at loss for words as to what happened. All he knew was the obnoxiously loud city was deadly silent and then a couple hours later on fire and being conquered. He wanted to figure out what happened as much as she did, but all he had at the moment was a banner. And one the princess didn't need to know about... At least not then.

"Protocol states we wait 48 hours, and than move on to the closest kingdom belonging to family on your mother's side." He said, not bothering with her other questions. She could get angry and yell and throw tantrum at him, but for now she needed to rest up. They only had until the next day to rest up for travel. "Eat, drink, sleep, rest up. We have a long way to go. We're leaving tomorrow in the afternoon. No exceptions." he said, letting her help herself to food as he went to the opening in the cave to keep guard.

Katrina sighs she hated when Thalmas doesn't give her the answers she wanted. But guess it was best for the princess to know all things. She pushe the blanket off of her and stands up. She walks closer to the fire and sits down next to it. And look over across the food that was there. She needed her strenght alright knowing how far her grandparents kingdom was. But it was the closes kingdom.

Katrina picks at the food abit before she grabs a few berries and pops them into mouth to eat. Looking over at Thalmas "You know..its strange..usual you be a statue doing to day light hours. But then there are some things I still don't understand about magic." says as she takes a sip of water. She figure if she talk about different things it would take her mind off what happen to her homeland.

Thalmas shrugged. "Magic is not brain science, but it does take a lot of studies.... Your family is magical. Of course they never told you because they thought you wouldn't need to be raised to fight mythical beings like all your ancestors before you. But now I fear you may have to begin your studies... it'd be hard to teach you since most are taught since they are young but you should catch on quickly." He explained. He knew she'd have a boat load of questions but she'd have to deal with what he was willing to tell her at that moment. And that was only as much as she really needed to know. He had too many other things on his mind, too many questions that needed answering before he could really do much else besides protect her.

Sighing, he covered the entrance of the cave with moss and than went to sit in front of the fire, thoughts rushing through his mind all at once.

Katrina stares into the flames as she shifts abit pulling the blanket around herself. "I wouldn't be to sure about that. I knew somehow my family was also magical. But I knew father wouldn't allow to anyone to teach me defense magic. But I have learn healing magic." Looking up at Thalmas. "I just don't know why they had to hide it from me..." sighs deeply. "I mean they had bound to know something like this was going to happen."

The princess pulls the blanket off of her and stands up to stretch her legs. Mostly so she wouldn't go insane of sitting there for so long. Katrina looks over watching him covering the front with moss. She removes her cloak and place it on the floor. What she would do for a bath...but that would have to wait until they make it to her grandparents kingdom. Katrina plays with the locket around her neck before she stops pacing to look at the pictures inside of her parents. It was a heart shape that had the family crest on the outside and it was white gold. It was giving to her when she born. Already she misses her parents and her home.

Thalmas frowned, doing what he often did, her turned and going over her her, gently wrapping his arms around her. "Don't worry... You're parents are okay. You will see them again and you will again be safe." he promised, stroking her hair. He wanted to tel her everything but baby step needed to be taken. "You parents didn't tell you about the magic because each spell you cast, come with a price. Until you were to be married off, I was the one who held your magic. If you decide to take back your full magic, I would no longer exist. It's a curse your family has, since they bound themselves to mine centuries ago. You came from a powerful sorcerer and an enchantress. The enchantress was murdered by my hundreds of times great grandfather, and so with blood we were bound to you in eternal servitude, but that binding came with a price. As we are bound to you, your magic is bound to us. I can only give you half of the magic, unless you wish to have it all, which will destroy me." he said, but it was clear that whatever she wanted, he would provide. Even if it did destroy him. He lived to keep his princess safe. Alive, and well. And that is what he would do.

She had been hugged many times before from Thalmas but this time was different. Katrina leans against him resting her head on his chest when he strokes her hair. "I pray they are..."whispers gently. She closes her eyes for an moment listening to him about her family history. There was so much she still didn't understand about what happen between their two familes. And maybe she didn't want to know.

She opens her eyes and looks up at him. "Really?...but I don't think I could do that..I wouldn't want my full powers knowing you will be gone. I just can't do that..." and it was true she couldn't see Thalmas disappear out of her life by killing him just to get her full powers. Plus she wasn't sure she could harm anyone. "There is just no way I could...you mean to much to me...and..." blushing lightly. As she knew what she wanted to say but it was hard to get it out in words.

Thamas nodded. "I won't give you your magic until after we begin your studies in you grandparent's kingdom." he said, pulling away, knowing what she wanted to say, and it was something he would not let effect his or her destinies. "Tonight, if your parents re not here we leave." he said, sitting down by the fire.

He was already planning their leave, and everything they would possibly need to get in a town that wasn't far from where they were. He just hoped no one would recognize them.
