ERMAHGERD
ER MERD ER THRERD!
If you've ever felt like this, you're not alone. I've taken it upon myself to create this spot as a place for the socially awkward and the awkward-in-recovery to either discuss their anxieties in a positive and supportive environment or pretend they don't even exist and simply have fun with others like them.
I am a socially awkward person, but I like to think that I'm in recovery.
Having a veritable butt-ton of experience in this area, I feel I'm at least qualified to make a thread for my fellow sufferers, even if I might not do any good with making some other sort of thread.
I'm not here all the time, but I do try to come around regularly, so please be a little patient with me... You'll find we can have a lot of fun and it might even be a meaningful experience.
So please help me keep it alive, it's newly-born and all, and my first real attempt at something like this on this site. Invite friends, or whatever you can do that helps and doesn't annoy everyone, lol.
Okay, here goes nothing!
*waits for it to sink to the very last page*

Oh yay, I was afraid it was going to die in childbirth...
Yeah, the way I see it, I might as well have one. And we even have a theme, though I don't expect it to be some rigid topic of discussion, it's just a theme.
I'm socially awkward, so my thread would be socially awkward as well.
It's only natural.

Hmmm, I think I should bring my thread out of hiding >_>
Anyway, recently I think that I've slowly been... recovering? Getting better? I dunno. Anyway, I'm trying to force myself to speak even if I get nervous and awkward

I've found it really does help.
What also helps is when you do so and someone pays you a compliment.
Positive reinforcement for the win!
I tend to surround myself with people who go out and do all sorts of things, and deal with lots of people, and have adventures, and they sometimes force me to go out and do things with them.
They love my company, they just hate "hanging out and doing nothing," which is just how they see my lifestyle.
I'm an introvert, they're extroverts, so it's to be expected.
They prefer the outer world, I have always preferred the inner life.
But it's good to experience both, I think, and getting out and meeting people, even though a lot of them are crappy, really does help. Experience is the best teacher.

Yeah, I'm very much inside myself and I prefer it much more. I can recite speeches in my head, but when it comes to talking to others...
I just fumble and stutter and worse my stupid hands shake! But, with the fumbling, I realise that if I don't talk now I'm going to find it difficult when it's necessary.
So yeah, I'm an introvert too
But, I have no outside contact at all. I only talk to my family and you guys on Mene. Other than that...
All my friends have gone out for studying and I have no reason to go anywhere, so that's all I do. I isolate myself at home. And that may be unhealthy in some way, but I'm okay with it. Is that odd? Someone told me that was odd >_>
Anyway, hopefully this university thing will get me out and about and interacting with people.

It's only considered odd because of society's opinion.
In the modern age, we're all supposed to be good little go-getters and everyone's expected to be competitive and all that nonsense, but the ones who've always made the biggest difference have nearly always been introverts.
Introverts invent and create, and extroverts spread it all about.
Not a single one of us lacks a place or purpose in this world, we only have to figure out what we're best suited for, and do that.
The rest sort of takes care of itself, if we can get that first part sorted out...
Mind you, either way it involves meeting people and talking to them, eventually.

I used to be an introvert too before. But recently I've been... talking way too much I haven't figured out how I changed or why I changed, but now I actually talk back, and eh my best friend..doesn't really like me now for some reason D: I actually do like me now more than before, so I'm not listening to her I do like to shut myself up at times, though. It's much more easier. And except for school and tuition, I'm at home all the other time. So I'm used to being alone too, I don't mind either way
I agree, there needs to be both introverts and extroverts, everybody is good in their own way!

I really like the idea of this thread and I will help keep it alive.
I am socially awkward to the extremity and have social anxiety as well as many other mental illnesses (One being Borderline Personality Disorder), so it makes it hard for me to be social cause I am scared of rejection and everything else. I also get overwhelmed after talking to someone for a bit of time and tend to recluse myself away. But, I am in therapy working on trying to get better at that and I will stick around here to help keep this thread alive and have some ideas and advice.
I am good at helping those who want to start on the embark of recovery and everything else, so if you ever need to talk to someone for whatever reason, just send me a message!

I'm glad it got someone's firsty in the social section!
Yay!
Shadorilia, you've just met like some of the coolest people here, so hooray!
You know, I was once so shy I faced extreme embarrassment on an almost daily basis rather than speak up before it was too late, because I just couldn't speak up.
I was too embarrassed to say in front of everyone that I had to go pee when I was little, and wound up having emergencies every time. Then everyone made fun of me, and humiliated me, and it made it even harder to try and ask to go to the washroom.
And I was too embarrassed to go with everyone else, because I might make a noise or something, and every time anyone made a noise, everyone laughed.
I just wish to god I could have been home-schooled.
I'm better now, though. I mean, I'll fart on a bus and own up to it even, I refuse to be ashamed of doing anything anymore if I know everyone else does it, too.
Getting me on a bus in the first place though, now that I'm still working on. I hate buses, they're full of people.

I typically have bad luck in public places which reinforces my anxiety and causes me an extreme amount of stress because of it.
Basically I hate public places and it's why I tend to stay indoors. I'm less prone to bad luck in familiar places.

The gods may favor the bold, but yeah...
I go out when people make me do it, pretty much.
They know I hate it, so they make me do it every chance they get.

Being forced to go out is basically it. That's the only time I really go out. I just hate public places. Don't know if it'll disappear in the future.
But...yeah...scared of life. Wish I could live in a bunker for the rest of my life and not have to go out into the scary world.

I sweat a lot too, but that's all the time... I'm just very prone to it.
Doesn't help the social situations, though...
