Oh the joys of vets bills. I used to have to have my hamster's teeth clipped every 5 or 6 weeks or so, at £36 a time. Pets are no problem until they have something go wrong, then they cost you an arm and a leg.
My mum kept telling me I should get him put to sleep as I couldn't afford the costs, and was it really worth it as he was "just a hamster". Like the value of a life is directly comparable to the being's size.
I wasn't impressed. I said to her that he was reliant on me for everything, I couldn't discard him just because he was a financial inconvenience. I said the same thing could be said for her mum/my nan, who's in a care home and has dementia. Get nan put down as she's just a burden now, I think that got my point across.
