Hi there, Mene friends! I was just wondering how many of here on Mene believe in ghosts/spirits/afterlives and what not. I am psychic, myself, and strongly believe in ghosts/spirits etc. I was wondering what your take on it is, and if you have any good stories?
Incidentally, I love to read people's cards. I need some practice and I have gotten pretty good over the years. I can do it over the internet, but typing it up will be a new thing for me. If anyone is interested, I am offering this for free. No need to pay for it.
I also want to hear your thoughts on this subject. Perhaps some scary ghost stories, or why you don't believe in such nonsense? Every opinion is welcome, just be nice and don't discriminate or go against Menes TOS.

Its actually very simple giving Tarot readings online... I've been doing it since I started on Mene, and even had a game during a User Event dedicated to Tarot. ^.^ With a 98% success rate I think I do rather well.
I'm also a Spiritualist. I have always believed in ghosts, but I'm not too sure about an afterlife.... But thats just me being me.
I do Tarot readings, Aura readings -those have to be done in person- and I'm teaching myself palm reading... I really want to learn how to read Runes. It looks rather impressive.
My first instance with a spirit was actually through my mom. I was probably around 6-7, she had gotten up to go to the bathroom, directly down the hall from her room. Well when she crawled back into bed, she noticed the bathroom light was on. Thinking she had just forgotten to flip the switch, she got up and turned off the light. Got back into bed, and the bathroom light was on again. This happened 5 or 6 times until she finally yelled "Thats enough Charlie". And the bathroom light turned itself off. Too this day she doesn't know why she said Charlie, but whenever weird stuff happens in our house, you tell Charlie to smarten up and the weird stuff stops. Missing things are right where you left it even though you've been searching for an hour, etc.
NekoLen, how about a trade? You do a reading for me, and I'll do one for you? ^.^

Codette: Sorry, I did see your message, but I was on my way to work, so I couldn't reply.
Swapping card readings does sound like a lot of fun. I've recently read my own, but it is better when someone else can do it, you know what I mean? I can do auras as well, and I know if I was trained up enough, I could be a full on medium. Sometimes I can see people walking behind strangers, but I never say anything about it, because I don't want to sound crazy.

I totally understand. All the women in my family are Sensitive, we often see things others can't. It gave me a lot of trouble in elementary school. Thankfully my high school friends were a lot more accepting to the weird stuff that happened when I was around.
Do you wanna do the Tarot here or over pm?

It is up to you, really. I don't mind too much.
Though, the way I work is I need your full name, which you can send to me over pm if you don't want others to see.
Also, my cards are oracle cards, and are based heavily around Arthurian legend (Sword in the Stone type stuff), emotions, animal guides and Faeries.

I'm a big fan of spiritualism. Whether or not anyone believes the phenomena are real can often be irrelevant to the experience of it. Tarot cards, for example, are really fun, and people I know who don't really believe in the concept of divination have had a good time with them. At its worst I'd say spiritualism is fairly harmless except for when charlatans dupe unsuspecting people out of money, which is a real problem. At its best it can be a profound experience to engage in divination and other activities. I think we all need ritualistic tools to give us peace of mind.

I could never feel right charging people for my gifts. It just makes you seem like more of a fake if you charge.

I've always been of the opinion that anyone practicing a spiritual craft for the sake of another should be provided by in some way. I loathe the idea to think of it as an actual class, but I see anyone with such an occupation as being part of a sacerdotal class of society. The problem is that we don't live in a society that recognizes the legitimacy of all spiritual practices, nor can we expect the majority of citizens to support something they don't want to (in other words, freedom from religion, or even just spirituality).
Thus I don't think you should charge, but I do think people should expect to give donations for your services. I guess it's complicated.

That's what my mum tells me, because I refuse to charge a flat rate for my readings. I just tell them to pay me whatever they feel like. Some don't give me anything at all, others give me a few dollars.

If I consulted an oracle I'd definitely pay. A service was rendered, whether you're a skeptic wanting to be entertained or someone actually seeking council. The exploitation can work both ways.

I know, I just feel like phoney if I charge though...
Though this one girl I read her cards didn't pay me and then the day after went to a 'professional' and paid $50 for a reading. At least I knew that I was doing a good reading because the 'professional' said the same thing I did :P

The way I see it, churches ask for tithes, so why shouldn't diviners? xD

When I do readings over Mene, I just ask that if the reading has any symbolical meaning to them, to feel free to donate whatever they deem appropriate. If they get nothing out of the reading I feel bad taking donations.

I'm psychic myself too, and like you guys i've found myself gravitating towards spiritualism. In terms of religion i don't class myself as a Spiritualist though, more of a pantheist, simply because i've been to Spiritualist Church and there's far to much of God and Jesus, which i don't really prescribe to.
My belief about the afterlife is that it exists, though there is no such thing as Hell, or Heaven really, just a place where we return to the raw energies that we're made from. I believe in reincarnation too, to an end where we keep going until our soul has learn't everything it set out to over the course of 'x' amount of lives.
To me being spiritual, psychic/sensitive, and being a Spiritualist are all different things, though they often overlap. As somebody who practices energy work like reiki and crystal healing, as well as reading cards and being able to tune into spirit within our environments, i consider myself having a spiritual mindset and psychic abilities, but not to be a Spiritualist.
I've seen and felt some pretty amazing things during my life, through both energy work and my psychic abilities, and i believe wholeheartedly in what i'm experiencing. I don't need somebody else to validate what i'm going through to give it existence, though i don't cause friction with people who don't believe in such things. I just consider them not yet fully developed enough to see/feel etc.
Working at a zoo & castle with a 1000 + years of history means i've seen and felt some pretty wonderful things since i've been there, and i've seen several members of my own family who're in spirit, and also the parents of a close friend. I love telling stories, but i'm careful who i tell, because it's things not a lot of people react very well to!
When it comes to tarot, the only place i charge for readings is via my Etsy shop, but they're nowhere near as expensive as most readers charge in person. If anyone asks me in person i don't charge, though i do accept any donation they might want to give, but the reason i set charges in my shop is because i've had a lot of people try to take advantage and ask me things continually, which is both time consuming and unnecessary in a lot of cases. Also, other people charge for the use of their gifts and abilities, so i don't see why we should be any different just because of the nature of our work, so long as we aren't taking advantage, and set affordable prices.

I didn't know there actually was a 'Spiritualist church'. Learn something new everyday... Although I don't understand how Spiritualist and God work together though...

Hehehe, I love how a fellow psychic is dressed as a centaur <3
Some Spiritualist churches can be a bit, too much about God and all that, you just need to find the right one for you. I am probably more of an Agnostic, as I am open to the idea of religion, but just believe in most of what Christianity preaches.
@Codette, most churches (well here in NZ anyway) are small gathering places, led by one or two highly psychic people. They usually involve workshops and guest mediums. They all work differently throughout the world though, I heard that when our head guy went to one in America, people only got, like, 10 sec readings each.
Though the concept of Heaven, God and Jesus is usually talked about/sung about in Spiritualist churches, you have to realise that when they talk about 'God', they are referring to Whoever you perceive as God. I think of our own souls and the connection we all have in this life and the next, as well as the energy and power of the Earth.
My set of beliefs are from Guest speakers when they channelled their guides and various other religions, mainly Wicca/Paganism, Christianity and maybe a touch of Buddhism. I believe in reincarnation and that we are constantly recycled until we learn the answer to the ultimate question ('42') and become pure souls. Pure souls then go on to become 'angels' or whatever you want to call them.
Though I must admit that I haven't heard of a Spiritualist church talking about Jesus, of all people.

Hehe sometimes a persons nature can't help but leak through into their avatar. I'm far to whimsical for my own good!
I'm in the UK, and the Spiritualist Churches i've been to operate in pretty much the same way to yours Nekolen. The one i've recently thought about joining holds healing circles as well as regular goings on, which is part of what attracted me to it.
In the first church i went to i distinctly remember some kind of Spiritualist Bible. Not sure what it comprised of in turns of scripture though, but i remember listening to the woman talk about Jesus. I've always found myself shunned and made to feel very unholy in some religious circles. I had a friend at secondary school who's mother was devoutly religious, and as soon as she found out about me and my tendencies she completely changed, and i've heard a lot of negative things from Christians in general about sensitive people. One of the best notions put forward to me were from a Mormon friend. She said she saw such people as working for God in their own way, especially if they were helping people pass on into light, or were taking messages to loved ones, which i thought was nice. My best friend at the time was Muslim, and she said something along a similar line, that Allah/God had gifted such people and they were seen in a fairly positive light. I guess the spiritualist churches who add in that religious aspect take similar approaches too.

I never understood that, seeing that their Bible talks about Prophets and whatnot. I had a Roman Catholic friend, and trust me they are the worst sort of Christians (not saying that they are bad, they are just the most stubborn, and contradictory out of the lot), her parents used to think I was a 'Satan worshipper' because I talked to her often about spirits. She was being attacked by something evil in her home one time and I even experienced it. And all they could say was that it was my fault because I collect dragons and liked to wear black. Argh.
The church I went to had a absent healing circle afterwards and it really was nice to go get cleansed every week. I miss that place.

I get quite a bit of friendly jostling from my family about things like that too. Anything weird goes on and i'm usually the first one who gets mentioned. I'm quite thankful i've never had any upright confrontations about my gifts though, because i'm not quite sure how i'd deal with people jumping down my throat or accusing me of being the devils disciple. Thankfully i have few religious people in my life, and far more open minded and accepting ones!
Having said that though, a lot of people i meet are often more accepting of the fact i'm psychic than they are of things like reiki and crystal though, which is frustrating, as it's something that can actually be felt by a lot of people.

I believe in fairies. Simple as.
Sometimes they're benevolent, sometimes they scare my girlfriend so much that she decides to salt the house then and there. As far as the supernatural does, I'm willing to entertain the possibility of their existence. I've had a few very creepy experiences myself, so I'm more than willing to believe in ghosts and maybe some more malevolent fey beings.
I dunno if I would call myself psychic, though. I mean, I guess I sometimes see or sense things that aren't really there, but it's more likely my eyes playing tricks on me half the time. But I firmly belief that people can imbue their energies in the world and people around them. It's all about how one handles their inner state when it comes to things happening in their outer state. Spiritually or not. <:

I like to believe in the unknown. Kinda like secrets. They're there, just not many know about them. I like to believe in the people who read dreams. Psychics right? Because I have some pretty weird dreams that one day I'd like explanations for. And I like the idea of ghosts, not because it's all "cool" an mainstream and shit, but because I like the idea of there being other worldly things out there, that there's a chance spirits can become "stuck". Etc.
