Long ago I realised that vBulletin's email system is...er...how to put this...less that great! That's polite

So today, I decide to do some Googling.

Firstly, I was looking for what kind of html would actually work, so I could make the emails look less crap and unprofessional. First result Google shows me...

Ok, fine. But let's click on this anyway and see if I can find anything helpful...

First thing I see is something that's extremely relevant to Mene, but the response?...

FU vBulletin! I do not need that stereotypical, "Are you sure you've plugged it in, dear?" kind of answer.

It has no answer for why some people don't get the emails, apart from a blanket "it's the ISP's fault".

Thanks vB, you've been really helpful! Oh well, carry on as normal then. Crummy emails that may or may not turn up! >.>

It's IT's job to ask if it's plugged in first.
xDDD

Also the classic:

It looks to me that they give an adequate amount of information in trying to help people out: https://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/troubleshoot_email

Which is good on them since it looks like they don't have much control over the email anyway.

Please be aware that vB does not have it's own email application. It has to use either PHP or SMTP, and both of those are server applications. There is very little control vB has over these.

Ooh what about this?

If all else fails you can switch to the SMTP mail option to see if this works better for you.

...I totally did not wheeze and inhale saliva down the wrong pipe at the sudden appearance of an unexpected Benedict gif >.>

Hahaha gotta love these 'helpful' answers. xD I often come across those when Googling stuff. Or get random irrelevant information. Because that's exactly what I need when Googling for solutions to solve a problem...>_>

Though sometimes some people really did just miss the 'ON' button somewhere in their settings...especially for newbies. But so frustrating for those who actually know what they're doing that're still running into frustrations, and keep getting useless answers. xD

Iku, I read all that at the time, but it might as well have been written in Martian for me, I don't know what SMTP is.

It probably is down to people's ISPs in the end. The mail gets sent out, that's not a problem, just a lot of it never arrives.

We should go to vBulletin, and punch them all in the butt!
