Apparently she told one of the assistant managers at the other stores that she would never promote me. The A. Manager told me this and asked me not to say anything but part of me wants to confront her and ask why.

Background fact, I've only been at this job for six months yet Im the one who's been employed the longest. About 3 months in the lady that hired me quit, I helped run the store for 2 months, working double shifts and doing paperwork and erg. Now I have a newly hired store manager to answer too.

Am I allowed to vent in this forum ?

Well the question here is, would you confront t your district manager in a situation like this ?

Who was the one who said that?
Was it the store manager?

She hasn't gotten to know you yet really, so she's prejudging, if she really said it.
But here's the thing.
You've only been there for six months.
That could be the reason why. She may not have even said "never." Who knows.

I would ask her, but don't point fingers.
Just talk to her, one on one, and just bring it up.

Or, you can work your butt off, prove you are promotion material, then bring it up to her.

Either way, you gotta talk to her.

Ask for advise on how to improve, and do it.

I once had a store manager who would straight up lie to my face about promotions and full time.
"Oh, someday. When there's an opening."
I went through five years of that bullshit.
Now I have to start over.
But I'm going to KILL IT.

I believe in you, you can do this~!

Vent all you like!

Hmm, you say apparently, so it's only hearsay, right? At this point, I'd file the info away and not forget about it, but take it with a pinch of salt.

If down the line you definitely get overlooked for promotion, I'd ask why at that time, but I'd not bring this bit of gossip up. I think it would only muddy the waters and create unnecessary drama.

It's hard to shrug stuff like this off, I know. But unless you heard it with your own ears all the other person would do is deny it anyway. All you can do is keep doing your own job well, and see what the future brings. This new manager might not last very long anyway. :O

Well, it was my district manager who said it , not the new store manager. So my district manager has known me the entire I worked there. It is hard to overlook it but you guys are right i don't want any drama on the work place

It's just super frustrating because my store manager hired a random person in to be assistant manager now. So I have two new people tHat i have to bite my tongue and refer to as my senior while they both still have to ask me questions as to how certain things work.

Just be patient, work hard and you might see your results But then again don't be too patient and start missing all opportunities

Really good advice Lexadis, I want to prove myself but at the same time I have a tendency to let myself get forgotten about. I don't want to do that this time

You could always play innocent and pretend you never heard but go up to you district manager the next time she is there and state, "I've been with this company for 6 months and really enjoy working here. Is there anything I can do to improve my performance as an employee in order to work my way up through the company because I would really like to stay here for a while." Or something like that. Give no indication you heard anything - but she might appreciate that you want to "better yourself" to improve your position within the company and that you have declared your loyalty to the company.

Yes, this. Fantastic idea! It's a sly way to confront them about it without them knowing you heard anything!
