Who's succumbed to it? It ninja'd me during a Windows update last week

IT'S HORRIBLE

This isn't just snark because something's changed, it's snark because none of the changes seem beneficial in any kind of way. Bear in mind that we use a group chat for the staff.

My peeves:
  • A lot less conversation visible now because there's a gap between everything, like this:

    Name
    space
    Response
    space
    Name
    space
    Response
    space
    etc.

  • People's names are in a pale grey that makes you squint at them to see who's said something.
  • You can't enlarge the size of the box you type into any more, it's just a little squidged space at the bottom like the chat on Facebook.
  • If you use just an emote it's freakin' MASSIVE. Like 3 times the normal size
  • Also, they've censored the mooning emote

I'm sensing some passive-aggression on their part here. xD Earlier this year they removed the "secret" one that gave people the finger. Now enough uptight people have complained about the bare butt (maybe they were jealous of its round bubblebuttness?) for them to have to do something about that too. But instead of just removing it they black-boxed the bare butt. If that's not a display of blatant eyerolling on their part then I don't know what it, so kudos for that, I guess, shame about everything else ><

I must not have an upgraded version. Then again, they were always pretty wonky for me and I was usually less-than-satisfied with the quality overall despite any new features they introduced. I've been getting a lot of bot requests lately, too, which is weird...//taps her chin thoughtfully

I've been lucky with regard to bot requests, it's really rare if I get one. But even so, how have the ones I have received managed to get through as my settings (supposedly) don't allow requests. But in the main I manage to avoid them.

I wonder if any computer/internet thing, anywhere, has ever managed to bring out an update that a significant percentage of the people who use it actually liked. xD

I was peeved when it first hit my computer but I've mellowed out quite a bit once I found out how to change the font, size, and color. It wasn't readable to me before, too light in color and too small of size, also the font was too delicate.
There's still the issue of everything being WAY too light in color and it's hard to differentiate between whose talking in group chats unless you have it in a large enough window to see the icons. And it's all round!! *insert longwinded rant about mimicking Apple products and how much that displeases me*

I actually went out of my way to find out how to change the font because it was bothering me that much. I couldn't read most of it! I have poor eyesight but wear glasses, so there are other people out there with much worse vision. I can't understand why Skype would alienate a portion of their users like that.

I set my font to a semibold option and that made it way easier for me to read, it's people's names that causes me the most problems. I turned the icons off because of how much room they take up in a window that already displays way less conversation than before, I don't want to re-enable them

I haven't opened skype in weeks. I'll have to remember this next time I do and try to prevent it from updating.

Lately I just prefer facebook messenger. It used to be really buggy, like not even functional, but it seems to have been sorted out in the last couple years. I like it because it'll do a push notification to my phone, so I don't feel tied to the computer when I'm chatting with someone. Skype has an app, but it's absolutely worthless - it won't even update reliably when you have the app open, much less push a notification through if you don't have it open.

Plus, gotta say I'm a sucker for the facebook stickers. Way better than a standard emoticon! Some of them are cute or practical, but some of them are so downright WTF that I'm enamored of them. Like business fish. Why do I need a fish in a business suit to express my emotions? I JUST DO, OKAY.

I honestly hate skype's emoticons and never use them if I can avoid it. They just look dumb.

It keeps asking me if I want to update to the newest version and I keep saying "not now" XD

I'm not really a fan of the new Skype update, either. The way it looks doesn't please me and now I have a harder time getting around simply because I was so used to the old format/style of it all. I understand that everything is getting "clean slate," now days, but I'm honestly not too enthused.

Lucky me, my parents never update their Skype. Or I'd have to listen to all kinds of rants from them too

I know I'm a bit late for this but my fiances skype updated and we hated it, I was glad mine hadn't! But then the next day... BAM! It's ugly and I just can't forgive it.

I've been having issues with Skype long before the update. The Windows 8 app for the program is complete and utter trash. :u
It wouldn't update on convos and when it did, it came all at once and freaks my computer out. At first I thought it was my computer itself but apparently all 8 users have similar issues. Ugh. So I switched to the desk top version.

And the update sucks. The aesthetic is trash.

I don't mind too much of the new set up. my group of friends on Skype and I seem to get a kick out of the giant emote (because 2 of us like using the sheep one to irk one of the guys) for those of us who have the new skype.

The thing I do dislike is now we no longer can see a group picture. It was always a huge thing when we would have a new groupconvo profile picture and new name. I haven't noticed the mooning one though.

I also like the Facebook stickers. One of my faves is HamCat. :D

Oh gosh. I haven't updated mine despite the consistent prompts to do so.
Perhaps I wont.

Lol. Because of this thread I've been ignoring my prompts to update.
