Dramatic title, much?
Necessary though, I think. Activity's continuing to decline, and it's not going to get any better if we do nothing about it. So we're getting proactive here! Let's kick things into life, and the place to start this is
General Discussion!
See the GD is going to be one of the first places that someone who's just signed up, or is looking to see if it's even
worth signing up, is likely to check first, and what's probably going to be their first thought, hmm?
Something that's been succinctly put into words in this thread here! Omg... this site is so slow.
I want you to go and look in the GD now, right now, go on, I'll wait...
Notice anything missing? No? How about this? See where that is now?
See we're fully aware that the GD has an issue, and that issue is being bogged down by outdated and unnecessary rules. So they're gone! Whole lot, in the trash where they belong, because the vast majority of them just aren't relevant any more. That huge amount of harsh rules was needed when there were a lot of cheaters and spammy kids using avatar sites, but now those same rules are smothering activity because people are afraid to make new threads.
The GD's requirements are simple:
- No spam
- Quote it if you didn't write it yourself
- Stick to the PG-13 guidelines
There's really not must more to it than that!
The spam definition being: Spam consists of posts with no meaning or relevance to the thread they are made in.
Other than that the sky really
is the limit.
Forget all the
NO from the previous GD rules. Threads don't need to stay on topic. The topic itself doesn't have to be something deep and meaningful, it can be something utterly trivial, IT. DOESN'T. MATTER.
Just talk, about anything and everything. Get active, have fun. Make Mene appealing to new users before it shivels up and blows away.
The GD's rules revamp is the start of the entire site's rules getting a tidy up. We're not opening the door to spam and bumping, nope, not having any of that. But the site rules are 100 times worse than the GD rules for being needlessly excessive and overly wordy. It's a pretty daunting task to sort those out, so we're starting in the GD and seeing how that goes!
As usual, please ask absolutely
any questions that you might have, they'll be collated in the second post.
AND GET CREATING THREADS IN THE GD, PLEASE!
