Well, this poem earned me a nice 38/50 at the Roane State academic festival. ^^ I think I did pretty good on it.
Memory
Calling out into the deafening silence
No one can hear my pleas.
No voice reaches out to guide me on.
The single prayer I send remains unheard
And unanswered
My dreams have shattered
Only fragments remain
Tearing at the worn soles of my weary feet
I have come so far, but gained so little
I cannot continue on without you
A single tear slips away from empty eyes
Falling into the infinite sea of sorrows
The surface shatters
The ripples even slowly
Smoothing again into a flawless memory
A memory that one day will make me strong
A voice reaches from the past
A gentle whisper calling me on
”Buildings burn, friendships fade, people die
But all that remains are not ashes
Remember, my child, life will drag on
With or without you, it continues
Go now, and catch up to it
Nothing lasts forever,
Time is too short to waste in mourning.”
Nothing is forever, not even good-bye
Worries fade with each passing moment
Soothing memories will sweep them away
I can look back now
And even in the darkest of hours,
I can still hear our laughter echoing
Beneath the azure skies
