Qtrax was scheduled to debut with a 25,000,000 song catalog, absolutely free supported through advertisements yesterday at 12am EST. Unfortunately, three out of big four labels decided to back down after the said that they never signed any deals with the company to allow free music downloads. Although such a big issue occurred, I am still motivated to announce that if they were to go ahead and release 1 out of the 4 record labels music, would you still go ahead and look for you favorite music on that site! Below is the link to the full article report as well as the site itself! Let me know what your opinions are toward this issue!

By the way, if you read towards the end of the article it mentions, that is is not known whether the shall content shall be released.

They have allowed it to be released! I currently have it on my desktop, but not all the features are currently available! At the moment they are going in stages.

O_o why does this sound so unbelievable?

after labels and most of their artist fought
to shut down file sharing programs, why would
they then decide to go ahead and let people
download the music for free?

I have no idea, but it seems that labels would prefer that the sites ran advertisements and have to go by certain agreements to allow their music to be downloaded.

I still prefer Itunes, Ive got so many Itunes cards from concerts; Qtrax looks pretty much like a torrent program.

Actually, many artists do not support those actions by the labels...

And also, if it's ad-supported, then they probably do still pay for the music, it's just that the sitegoers do not.

EDIT: @DavyJones: Yeah, I prefer iTunes as well, but the whole DRM locks thing is kind of a turn-off.
