Renji couldn’t believe he had actually discovered when his captain’s Birthday was. Not only that but everyone in the unit seemed to like the idea of a celebration to honor the day with birthday boy present of course. Which is where he ran into a snag. Byakuya didn’t seem like the type who went for the big old party; in fact he seemed like the type to kill the messenger with the invite to said party. And because it had been Renji’s idea, everyone thought Renji should ask. Also they made a good point that no one else in the unit was closer to their proud, cold, distant captain.

Renji was prepared though. He was going to do this logically, and if that didn’t work then there was playing on what ever emotions the guy had. Then if that didn’t work there was always begging, and pleading. Not that Renji even seriously thought of doing something like that, but he was just trying to think of his options.

He didn’t really expect to get the captain to come. Not that he didn’t want him there, but it just seemed like Byakuya was and island unto himself. Then again maybe that was because he didn’t have the chances to let go like everyone else had. Maybe he just needed an invite.

Yeah and maybe Zabimaru would start making daisy chain crowns and spouting talk of peace and love…

But enough of ths, fortune favors the bold after all, and for as bold as Renji was going to be, he needed all the good fortune he could get. Locating Byakuya wasn't hard, and Renji soon found himself before him, his feelings of nervousness and hopefulness at wor with each other, and making him come of sounding a little stiff as he said, "Captain, I and the rest of the sixth division would like to invite you to have a few drinks in honor of your Birthday."

Byakuya sat in his office going through the paper work for today when Renji entered into the room. He looked up slightly from his work and watched as Renji came forward and stood stiffly in front of him. He braced himself slightly for what he was about to hear. It seemed like Renji was nervous causing him to wonder what had he done now.

Byakuya was slightly surprised by Renji's request but he his face remained a blank slate. How did he find out my birthday, he thought, Rukia perhaps? He faced Renji completely carefully placing down the paperwork on his desk.

"I appreciate your offer," he said shortly, "But as you can see I am currently busy with work."

Renji smirked inwardly, the old work ploy, he was so expecting this one.

“Of course,” he said with a slight formal bow, “we would never dream of interrupting your work, which is why we are quite willing to work with your schedule. We understand if not all of us can be there for your gathering this time, but there will be of course other chances.”

Which granted was a rather big overstatement, nothing had been discussed other then the fact that Renji was the man for the job of getting Byakuya to show for the get together. A slight scowl marred his face as he again wondered at why he had gotten this ‘honor’; after all it wasn’t like he was some silver tongued devil. He did have determination on his side though, and stubbornness, and undoubtedly there was his stellar good looks and modesty. It was unfortunate that Byakuya probably wouldn’t be swayed by a pretty face though. It was time to bring out the big guns, get the ‘battle’ over with quick as possible.

“We merely wish to convey our deep-felt appreciation and admiration for our captain.” He was really proud of that line, took him all night with a dictionary and a thesaurus to get it just right. Who could attempt to resist its alluring flattery?

He's trying to flatter me, Byakuya thought slightly amused. He sighed and regarded Renji with his eyes. They were really trying to get him to go to the party. "At the moment," he said in a briskly manner, "I do not know my entire schedule. I do have more work to do today that will take sometime and other then that something may come up."

Byakuya got up from his chair and stood in front of Renji. "But since it seems you and the rest of the squad are determined to get me to go," he said, "I will try to come for a few minutes." I'll only stay long enough to thank everyone, he added in his head. This should please Renji enough.

"Now then when is it?" he questioned.
