Right now, I'm in nursing school. With midterms coming up, I had a ton of paperwork that needed doing - ask ruby about care plans when she shows up, she'll understand. XD

Oh, mine's done now. Took me most of this week to do it - two modules worth of about 60 questions/definitions each, a take-home exam, and an 8 page care plan. Yech. All I have left is study for Oncology/Integumentary stuff, study for microbiology and two short question sheets from micro. In theory, that means this'll be a relaxing weekend! XD

Oh, it is compared to two weeks ago - that was a hell week. Microbiology and Pharmacology tests in the same day, back to back. And a Nursing one two days later.
It was ugly. I was like a walking vegetable after that week.

So far so good. I'm holding early 80s grades for all three classes so far, and with the extra work I'm putting in, I think I should be able to improve them all considerably. =3

Honestly, I have no idea. Ruby and I had this conversation once; we're both in nursing programs and both of us agree that every time they rotate us into different departments, we have the same reaction - "I could do this for a few years! This is fun!"
Consequentially, I've now considered geriatric, med-surg, respiratory therapy, OR, psych nursing, school nursing, radiology nursing and obstetrics/maternity nursing. I'll probably be considering ICU and ER as well before this semester's end. Someday I'll pick a specialty.

Yeah, it happens to me for the past few years deciding whom I wanted to be as for a job.. so I figured to jump ahead and pick out of the smallest and most needed.. that is for me to become a Psychologist for hearing impaired. You don't know how many people out there needed someone who knows sign language, their culture and able to help them out.. not having to request an interpreter.. it frustrates hearing impaired that they deal with this issue all the time when going about the normal hearing world. I don't know if I could do ICU and ER.. I have such a graphic mind.. but I sure do watch a few shows like that similarity, like Bones for example. I wish you best of luck with that. =3

Hey guys! I kind of snooped some of the posts to see what's been going on, creeped! Haha (that's me ).
Anyway I think it's amazing it's amazing that you're doing that Byaggha! I was thinking of getting into health care, but I'm still debating what my ultimate goal is. It's up there though, along with some other things from being an astronaut to being a superhero. I mean if you're gonna dream, dream big! :P
Fydan, I have had experience with that where I've wanted to communicate with the hard of hearing up it is SO hard! I also just moved Quebec, Canada and most of the city I live in is French! Luckily I was good in french in elementary, and it came back pretty quick when I started it up again. Still though, the language barrier is so overwhelming at times. Trying to get your point across but not knowing the right french words. Human emotions and facial expressions are really the only universal language you can depend on in a situation like that, and even then that only gets a little bit of your intentions across. It's like playing charades! haha So yeah that's sort of a reply to what you said before, cause I do know a bit of French. I'm not as good typing it out though

@Jazzed: If you think super heroing was a big dream, try the one I had when I was in second year of kindergarten - I wanted to be a gaseous nebula. Seriously. Forget being an astronaut, I wanted to be a stellar object! :D

My boyfriend's nephew had a birthday party on Saturday and I really wanted to go, so even though I KNEW I had a shift on Sunday, I had to go. So I did. I ended up getting home around 10, and while that doesn't sound so bad, mind you, I had to get up at 4 IN THE MORNING just to get ready and get to the unit I'm assigned to by 8 AM. I didn't sleep until midnight because yesterday was the first day I was going to meet my preceptor and I had objectives and whatnot to fill out.
Fantastic experience though. Since it was only my first day, all I had to do was shadow, really. I did give a rectal exam, though. @_@ Poor guy just needed a suppository. Senna wasn't working; ... but the suppository did! Mm.. I only have about 4 patients each time I go, but they're all cardiac patients (I'm on Cardiac/Telemetry at NYU) so there's a lot of back and forth with the pain medication (lots of post-post ops like open-heart patients who came back because of an infection at the incision site or swelling or chest pain), the I's & O's, checking if they're eating, stopping them from drinking too much, going back after pain meds to see if they worked... charting like a mad fiend. I also had two discharges and one new patient coming in around 6 (I was working like a BEAST to get that admission done in time - even with my preceptor helping) .. who was Bipolar by the way, so he took a turn for the worse around 7 PM.. started crying and throwing things.. had to call security (his Lithium level was low -- hence the manic episode, I'm thinking)...
I have a fantastic, patient preceptor. I didn't give any injections, but that was just because for the first day all she wanted me to do was the initial morning assessment, and then the follow-ups every 4 hours. I did do loads of dressing changes, though. But no IV hangs, which is weird, because you'd thinkin everyone would be on an IV, right? But since a lot of people have CHF, they try to stay away from ANYTHING liquid, and all PO drugs are in tab or pill form.
SO -- Friday is my second shift. I'm thinking of not going (our schedule's pretty flexible) because I have a HUGE exam on Tuesday (I'm actually in the progress of completing a take-home exam right now .. soo difficult to find the answers. ._.) and I also have a presentation with my group about the Try-This Series (Ever heard of it Byaggha?) .. but we haven't even picked something out of that yet so we haven't started.. and I've yet to summarize the two articles on Forensic Nursing I've got due on Tuesday as well.
._. I'm tired. Starting to get stressed out.

BinaFydan:
Haha that's okay, we've all got busy lives! =P No, it's a whole different world of French. I love it here, though :) So maybe learning to communicate with my hands will get things across easier! Course it would help if they knew sign language too haha. We'll have to see what happens...
Byaggha:
Haha! That's freakin awesome! Well sweetie, you are a stellar object :insane:
Good choice too! But there are so many stellar spacial celestial objects, most of which are unknown or only JUST discovered that blow my mind! Did you know there are stars that orbit at different directions at different points on their body? They usually make these vortexes that shine beams of light out the centers, usually at the poles (like half the star will go left, the other right), and the points where the two halves converge suck in like a black hole! It's crazy! And apparently there are these things called "white holes" where they're like black holes, but instead of 'sucking in matter' they create matter! If I had to pick I think I'd chose human, cause after all we're all just collected floating bodies of star stuff
rubybloodtears:
Wow, with that kind of schedule I'd get stressed out too. Hell with mine I'm stressed out! Sounds like you're doing really good though! Don't give up! Just relax!
Maybe try working out? I know, that's crazy talk after a 12 hour shift, but maybe on your day off. You'd be amazed at how it can boost your stamina! Make those 12 hour days easier to bear, and make you fit as a fiddle! =P I'm a hypocrite though. My idea of working out is nothing to what I do as my work out these days. Just procrastinating my butt off about getting into what I want to get into. I mean I get a decent amount in my day job, but it's not enough to boost my stamina as much as I'd like. Course who has the time for that! Sorry, maybe that was a waste of a paragraph...
How long have you been studying to be a doctor (is that right?) ?
There, that's more conversation oriented :P

Oh my boggly eyes, wow! This could've been an episode on Scrubs (humor wise) All of this going and you being all miserable! Hey, trying to lighten the mood. Since hey we all love you. I wish you best of luck on your exams.. I don't blame you about complaining getting up 4 in the morning, it is a great pain, I know, I been there and done that. Please don't stress out so much. After you done all of that, you would feel great all over again. But this stuff tends to gross me out in my own graphic little mind.. (maybe big rather little mind <_<) Hang in there RUBAY! :glomp:
@.Jazzed: Oh, yes, it would've been nice if they knew some sign language too! What have you been up to, my fair Canadian!?

@Jazzed: White holes are made of pure awesome. =3 Makes me want to do a city of heroes character based around one - if I didn't already have a gravity controller, I'd be doing that. They have a power that lets them summon objects seemingly out of nothing and throw them at people. Cars, statues, the whole nine yards. Very much fun. =3
@ruby: Ack. My poor fellow nursing student! So much work! *petpet, hugs* I am glad to hear it was at least a good experience day! <3 And no, what's this Try-This of which you speak? How horrible is it?

Thanks everyone for trying to cheer me up a bit. At least today is St. Patrick's Day - perhaps a pint of green ale after classes? -grins-
@Byaggha: Here's the website: http://www.hartfordign.org/Resources/Try_This_Series/
Since most of my clinical work is based on older adult/geriatric care at this point, it's been the main focus. I think my group is choosing the sleep deprivation bits, but there's been a breakdown of communication and some inner-arguments that I'm not completely aware of.. so.. -shrugs some-... we'll see how that goes. I'll definitely be sure to inform you. :)
My next clinical day is on Friday. Apparently, I take report that day and give report at the end of shift - it's a little daunting, but at least all I have to focus on are my 4 patients (or 5, possibly). My preceptor feels that I should in effect act as the primary nurse as of then. It's a little scary. I mean, I know I have loads of hours of clinical and theory behind me; but it's different when you don't necessarily have someone watching over your shoulder all the time.
@.Jazzed: I'm in Nursing school... just like Byaggha.. XP
