I am new on here and I think it would be nice if everyone could start out with some clothes of some sort or 200 gold, these games barely give anything if you suck at games :sarcasm:

It's been suggested hundreds of times, but it's not something that we do here :)
If you get nice and active in the forums, you'll have enough to buy some clothes soon enough. Just bear in mind that our gold earning is different, and your earn per character, so the more you have to say, they more you get to earn

I like not having any starter clothes. When you finally get enough gold, and buy the clothes you want you can feel a great sense of achievement.

Besides, even if you don't play games, you can earn money just from posting. And I'm not talking petty change. If you are active enough, you can make 100+ gold just from LEGAL posts!!

I have a charity for newbies... But I haven't re-opened it since coming back from a hiatus.
I should open it again
It just wouldn't be fair if it were introduced, as all members have had to work for their clothes when they first joined.

Yes, the longer your posts, the more gold you earn, up to 20 gold per post. Punctuation doesn't count though :)

Hmm... I was thinking about this a while ago... and I think it'd be interesting (if possible) to give newbies cloths that "expire" after a week or something.
That way their avis have cloths until they've posted enough for cloths, and they wont get "free stuff" since they would be auto deleted after a set time.
Not sure if that's possible... but just a thought ^^

I don't know about free clothes. Perhaps just a few simple sets that are fairly low priced? Maybe a shop that caters to newer players even. A Thrift store if you will. This would encourage new players to participate and earn gold without leaving them naked and discouraged.
I remember when Gaia released the spiffy new player clothes to replace the rags. I was really irked that the new players got to start with a set of clothes that looked halfway decent while I had to earn, or more realistically wait to be handed, my gold to buy something nice.
Just my two cents :P

@Kaze-bear
I have to admit that I'm a bit uncomfortable with the idea of leasing items to new users. I don't think that many people would be happy to see their inventory disappear. It's a bit like dangling a piece of bacon in front of your dog and then taking it away. In the long run, having some limited-time items would either make no difference to users (since they saved up and bought their own anyway), or would just leave them naked later on.
@TheCyberCynic
Our shop Hot Gossip has a number of cheap outfits.
Users can find simple items in every color of the rainbow over there.

My friend did that once with a piece of bacon, and the dog bit him in the face!
So it'd prolly make people a little pissed off if they had items that vanished... O_O

XD Knerd, you seriously made me LOL. Or, I guess, Snoriggle Out Loud as it goes. xD; So.... SOL?
I'm putting that on my sig, by the way. :'D :offtopic:
Anyways, on topic, I'd be really frustrated if newbies got starter clothes when I had to earn mine. D: I mean, I'd be happy for 'em and all, but I'd be frustrated. o_o So I'm glad that starter clothes aren't something Mene will do. :3
... Of course, this is reminding me that I gave Iltu my 'starter clothes' of a rag dress and a rose that I'd bought with my first gold when she joined. :'D She passed them on to a friend of hers that joined, next. Maybe my rag dress is still lurking somewhere in the dark corners of Mene.... :insane: /:offtopic:

It is very rewarding when you finally have enough money to clothe yourself. I still remember how excited I was when I had my first outfit. ^_^

@ TheCyberCynic - I know exactly what you mean about Gaia. I started there in late '03 when they gave you a peasant dress... maybe a little gold, but I can't recall. I was so excited when I finally saved up enough to buy pants and a shirt that I was so proud of my avatar (no matter how terrible it looked). When they released those decent-looking, insanely cheap starter sets, it was just like a slap in the face to anyone who actually had to earn that first set of clothes. Not to mention how easy it is to earn gold now...
But Gaia aside, even though I haven't bought my first set of clothes here yet, I don't feel totally ashamed to post here because you don't have people saying "lolzzzz noooob ur so dum" and such. It's really a nice environment. =3

I didn't even get my peasant dress for free on gaia.
:gonk:
I was like, Wtf, how do these newbies have them for free?
And now with these starter clothes they have on gaia at the moment.. They all look ridiculous, so I'm content with giggling to myself at newbies wearing pillow-like half sweaters. n_n
I'm honestly against any starter clothes but rags- and those should cost some gold, still. Jadarea gave newbies a really nice set of clothes... Well, they gave them to everyone, but I think that having a really stupid set of clothing is part of being a newbie. :offtopic:
Having a silly avatar is kind of like initiation.
I remember when I was a newbie here, wearing a white top and and a random belt for weeks. I was so proud of my outfit, because gold earning was so hard for me. :XD

I like that they don't give us starter clothing. Strange, I know. But it kinda forces you to create a goal! "I must buy pants!" :insane:

At first when I joined I was all, "Noooo, nobody look at my panties!!!11!1" But then I started posting and playing games, and soon I had enough for a shirt (the Bitter Hag one--I was a newb, but I wanted to be a purtily clad newb)!!! And then after that, I got me some PANTS. :O Then the accessories followed, and I eventually changed outfits...
"So, um, Mai? What's the moral of this story?"
Well, I shall tell you! It's all so much more fun to run nilly-willy through the streets of Menewsha clad in nothing but your undergarments, and earn gold little by little and clothe yourself gradually. It's like... an initiation, like somebody else said earlier (sorry, can't remember your name)! =D Plus, it also kind of shows that you're serious about sticking with the site, making a name (and funkilicious outfit) for yourself and so on. And if you're being FORCED to post on the boards in order to get gold, you'll meet friendly people more quickly and soon your army will grow in force and you'll be able to take over the island.
*Mai coughs*
I mean, you'll make more friends and have a better time on the site as a whole. Plus, isn't it cool to get PAID (in a sense) just for talking, voicing your opinions, etc? It's like.... the amount of gold you have and the number of layers your outfit consists of is equal to your dedication to contributing to making the city of Menewsha great! *Mai raises fist*
And to me, it's also like Menewsha doesn't have to bribe people to become members. It's a leap through a fiery hoop! Can you do it? Do you have the fortitude to stride confidently through the streets in a state of next-to-nekedness until your wallet fills to sufficient size to purchase clothing that transports you to a state of modesty?
...I don't even know if this post has a point anymore. *Mai's left eye twitches* I'm sure it's buried in there somewhere.
