My mum sent me this article about the swine flue vaccine, written by a well known/renowned neurologist. So anyone panicking about the flu and thinking of getting the shot should know the darker side of the vaccine (not just the "happy, nice" side the media is shoving in everyone face): http://www.d3swineflu.com/2009/10/13...e-flu-vaccine/

The same basic article, but a bio of the neurologist can be found here: http://www.theflucase.com/index.php?...mid=64&lang=en

Discussion:

Did you know this about the shot?
Were you planning to get it? Will you still now that you have read the article?
What are your views on other vaccines?

*reads through it* hmmm I never thought I'd be glad I have a weak immune system O.O. I wouldn't take the vaccine anyway simply because I already have the swine flu Xd, but if that article is correct the fact that I'm anemic so have a weak immune system might be a good thing. O.O

I don't get flue vaccination either. I never did trust the H1N1 vaccine (even before I read the article) and the normal flue vaccines have mercury and other toxic things in them that aren't good for the body.

I'll take being sick for a week thank you. I'll stay in bed, drink my orange juice, take herbal pills and eat soup.

I'm not sure. It looks like the guy is just trying to promote the D3 vitamin to me.

But I wouldn't get an experimental vaccine either way. It appeared out of thin air, and nurses don't want to take it.

D3 is an a natural supplement that is known to help raise your immune system against colds and viruses

I saw articles about the 1976 swine flu outbreak, typically I can't freaking find them now, which said the vaccine they made then killed more people than the flu. Plus the fact it isn't properly safety checked and there have been things in the papers saying there was a leaked memo to neurologists to watch out for increases in certain neuro diseases after the vaccine comes out. It's all too dodgey for my liking.

I don't know either :/ I'm anti putting foreign garbage into my system (ie: vaccines, birth control pills, pain killers (unless I absolutely have to)), but I will take vitamins because they are natural things just condensed into pill form.... I just tend to forget to take them these days because they aren't right in front of my face <.<

I only take painkillers if I'm actually crying because of the pain. Except period pains, then I take absolutely nothing for.

Menstrual craps are the only thing I really take pain killers for. haha. If I don't I get them so bad I can't really move and actually feel like vomiting. My mum wants me to go on birth control for it but i refuse. I just take pain killers at the first signs on the pain worsening (I do give it time and a heating pad to try and get to it go away, though most of the time it doesn't).

My mother is morally against vaccinations (e__e) so I wouldn't have been getting it anyway. But even if I were to be properly immunized, I don't think any flu vaccines are particularly effective. Everyone I know who got a flu shot got the damn flu ANYWAY, and the swine flu really isn't even that bad.

But I would wait for other studies from other doctors before I decided to condemn the entire vaccine, because this could be the one crazy guy. Just saying.

Ew I can't stand needles, I haven't had any kind of shot in years. I've never ever gotten a flu shot, it's unnecessary. I've had the flu once, and I'd rather deal with having the flu than get the shot. Shots are more painful, flus are just sort of miserable. And I heard swine flu is basically regular flu. I think they are blowing the whole swine flu thing out of proportion. I wouldn't wait in those ridiculous long lines for the shot either, even if needles didn't bother me.

I have a needle phobia so I really, truly, do not want to get this vaccine.

Birth control pills are garbage?

As someone coping with PCOD, I am extremely offended.

By the way, the way vitamins are manufactured makes them no more "natural" than vaccines or birth control.

As for the swine flu vacc, I am not getting one, but not for any of the reasons mentioned here.

I wasn't going to take the vaccine until they actually came out with shots, but still...

This website seems shady. I wouldn't trust it.

Meh, I was never much of a believer in things as small as flu vaccinations. The risks that come with a faulty batch of vaccines seem so much shittier than just a week of flu symptoms.

And that video- scary, but I'm not worried until I see this popping up from more reliable sources.

wow I have been completely against the swine flu vaccine from the start and I have been telling everyone I know not to get it. This proves that it is horrible

I would respectfully like to point out that the article linked up there really proves nothing. =\ All he is doing is flailing his arms saying "doomdoomdoom" and telling people to take this vitamin. It is posted on a website designed to PROMOTE said vitamin. This already brings into question his motives for saying this at all. Also the suggested dosage of D3 in the event of catching H1N1 that he suggests is... like right at levels of too much Vitamin D.

When looking at many of these issues, you have to keep in mind that A LOT of people don't know how vaccines work and it's very easy to spread false information that lead to mass-hysteria. People saying that this vaccine "came out of no where" etc... They may just be advertising it now, but it takes a long time to synthesize these things. And NOTHING can be approved for human use without adequate testing.

That being said, flu vaccines are normally not as effective. There are so many different types of virus (all related to epitope and peptide changes in the viral structure) that mean you can only vaccinate against certain types. Maintaining proper health and hygiene are just as important as vaccines.

it should be noted that the original posting of the article is unknown. It's all over the net, just type it into google, you'll get a million and a half websites hosting it, but many of them are legit

Not knowing where the article was originally posted actually makes me less inclined to want to take it seriously. In any case like this, I'd want to see some form of peer-reviewed paper where we are actually seeing all the variable and a proper testing of hypothesis.

fiarra, you have made a great point that I wish I had covered. The FDA doesn't approve medicines or treatments all willy-nilly.

We've also had the vaccine before (or at least a version of this vaccine, see previous outbreaks of swine flu), so to say it came out of nowhere is short-sighted.
