I think it would be best if you first told us what you're going for so that we have something to go off of. I'm not willing to give up a completely original idea though I would be happy to help build upon one of your own. :)

I love writing, I have an original novel in the works. But, honestly, if you like writing its better to come up with ideas on your own, this way they are yours and your attracted to them and not trying to BS someone else's idea. It's not to say you can't get influenced off people, but getting influence and getting an all out idea are two different things. Just look around you, be observant. What do people do that catch your interest? What do people say that you like? What are they wearing that catches you eye? What is the setting these people are in, can it be simulated into a story or would they be better placed in a different location?

You can often find ever interesting ideas just by watching and listening

Is there any ideas that spark your interest? Start there. Brainstorm some ideas, think of what sounds interesting to you for a romance book.
As an example, at the moment, I am writing a romance myself. I got the idea while reading one of my fav manga. The name of my romance novel is called: Anata no Koto wo Itsumo Aishite Imasu. (Love you Always). The plot is about a junior in high school named Miki Clems, who is in love with the new English teacher, Mr. Allen McCain. They have a relationship, however, they can't tell anyone or else his teaching license will be revoked. Through hardships and obstacles to overcome, Miki and Allen end up together in the end, married. However, the title is ironic through the story as it is portrayed in several different scenarios.

In order to have an original and a unique story MoonLightXAngel, you have to come up with your own unique characters. It has to be interesting and it has to have a hook that will captivate your readers attention. Erailea, you are right as to making the characters unique and interesting.

Anyway, good luck with everything and with writing your romance.

I am so a writer here, just a teen (18) though but anyways best way is to ready other stories or mangas. Check out Fanfiction.net is the best site so far for stories or fanfictions. It helps me alot since I get writers block alot.

I'm a writer, but I don't really write much romance, so I probably couldn't help you. Sorry.

Fanfiction and fictionpress are both good at helping. But you have to have an idea about what to write. But if you start writing something and want feedback, put it on fictionpress and wait for reviews. They can be very helpful.

What I've found, when I can't think of a start to a story, is to not start at the begining. I know it sounds so wierd but if you know how you want it to END it's often easier to come up with a way to REACH that end. Ok, so most romances end with either the pair (or pairs) in question living 'happily ever after' or something like that...but that doesn't say exactly HOW they are 'happily ever after'

Anonther idea is to (if you don't have a contract signed saying it HAS to be a romance book) is to not commit yourself to a particular genre. Take a notebook (or your laptop) and go somewhere where you can watch people, a small resturant, a park, ANYWHERE. Look around you and just start writing, try not to force your mind to focus on any one thing, if something catches your attention just write about it until you loose the thread you were on. Then move on. If after an hour or two of that, you still can't think of how you want even one of your characters to be or the general plot or sub-plot to your tale, try a different place.

I hope that helps someone!

@ Aria Raye- they do say, if you don't have an ending you don't have a story. From my writing classes and hearing author speeches, either in person or through film recordings, most end up writing out an ending before they get much else done (not necessarily a final version of the ending, but a good idea of how it's going to end).

In my opinion, you have to include fantasy in your story. Fantasy in romance are two categories that are meant to be combined. I am writing my own novel. Its a romance, but fantasy at the same time. As a lot of novels, it has something to do with vampires. I just couldn't help myself. But I do believe that fairies are good fantasy creatures to write a romance about. :)

@ Fastion - Thanks! lol I knew I wasn't crazy for writing backwards! lol that says nothing for my reading style but hey, I like know that the author ended the story at the very least...interestingly...ah well back to topic

@ Viva

While I'm with you on the love of Fantasy (My own work is heavily veiled in it) I've read MANY MANY great romance novels that had absolutely nothing to do with the fantasy genre...

so! back to Moonlight's request...

If, after you've pinned down a few details that you feel NEEDS to be in your novel, if you want someone to bounce ideas off of or to brainstorm with I'd be happy to help...I warn you though...my help will be mostly questions... I agree with Elysium that for it to be your work you've gotta do most of the thinking! (or something like that)

Good luck!

Romance can go into anything.

ANYTHINGGG! Horror, fantasy, sci-fi, non-fiction. Whatever, you know?

I think a good story needs a touch of romance.

Though I've never really read a book that was only considered a Romance Novel.

Think of a story and how these characters that you want to fall in love come into play.

Make it interesting.

Need a bit more information though, to help you.

Really? I've read some. My favorite type of Romance novels are ones in a Victorian setting. In fact, one of my favorite authors is Victoria Holt. They're romance novels with mystery and adventure rather than the other way around =3. So I suppose in that sense you're right. There is no such thing as a pure romance novel unless it's smut. In which case, it need never be published let alone be considered a novel. I mean, even if it's something simple like a Boy meets Girl type of book, there is bound to be Comedy.

Definitely, definitely. I think you understood what I was trying to say more than I did, haha.

:D I think the jist of what you both are saying is that 'The stories we write (or read) are really just an interpretation of life. You can't have life without touching a bit on several genre's (including romance).' or something like that yes?

I love writing, infact I'm writing about three things now or something liek that. But I agree with ElysiumFate, maybe if you told us what the general idea of your story is we could probably help you a little better.

i am a writer of sorts.first off,try going with the things that interest you.i find that it helps to write short stories based on my imagination,to get myself started.you should test your skill first, and read some other works as well.that will definitly get you some inspiration.and if you happen to have any interesting dreams, try to remember them.basically, just let your imagination run wild! and remember to have fun with it,and take breaks when you need too.theres no rush,so do your best, and never work with a half-baked idea.take the time to let your ideas develop, test them out, trial and error.if one idea doesnt work, try using it in a diffetent way, like fitting peices into a puzzle.and like i said before, make sure YOU enjoy the expirience as much as you can!

I write quite a lot and working on a book, though I'm doing it in a weird way. Whenever I get an idea, like a scene in my mind, I write it down. Right now I've got a bunch of different scenes (all the same characters and settings) and dialogue written down. Eventually I'll start filling in the gaps as I see fit. It's like making a bunch of different patterns and then sewing them into a quilt. It keeps me from getting bored and makes sure that I get the best out of my writing rather than just forcing myself to write the next part of my story just to have it done.

I'm a writer though I prefer to see myself as a fantasy writer, but lately I've been writing a lot of romance. And when you come up with your own idea, it'll be easier to write. There really isn't a lot of things out not "too cliche" anymore.
